Kungfu boy legends is still ongoing until now. The 20th volume has been released a couple months ago. And its getting more and more thrilling & exciting. U should buy and read it

While for Erased,, i remember i watched it once,, but didnt finish the 1st ep. Maybe i'll try to watch it again someday. The last anime that i watched and found it really interesting is just Natsume Yuujinchou :D

My nephew used to buy them, but I haven't seen him with a new volume for a while. That's why I thought the series has been concluded. I'll try reading the ones he already bought. Thanks for the rec!

Hey, I'm reading that too! Well, I didn't get sleepy until the black hole chapters, which was partly because I didn't understand most of it. It really is rather confusing.

Rosana S | 1 comments I'm currently reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. I am in love with Anne Bronte and her writing, and this book is no exception. It is such a beautiful social commentary, and highlights really well the plight of single, divorced women in 19th century Britain.
This book is an un-apologetically feminist book, illustrating the real injustices that women go through, yet at the same time having a heroine that is so brave and so resourceful despite all the challenges she has encountered.
However, I think one of the reasons why I like this book so much is because Helen Graham is, by all standards and measures, an outcast. Unlike the heroines you'd find in most novels, she is not beautiful, she is not sociable, and she is not wealthy. She is a social outcast, a hermit, and the sworn enemy of most of the conniving women around her. However, Anne makes this 'weird' woman her heroine, and blesses her with such kindness, strength, and intelligence, that readers love her anyway. Helen is so relatable, so real, that you can't help but fall a little bit in love with her. She is, I suppose, a great middle finger to the female protagonists in other novels which seem to have no other assets other than their beauty, and who convey the message that there is no other path to happiness for women other than through beauty.

Anyway, I love this book :) The only thing I regret is that Anne only wrote two novels in her lifetime.
P.S. this book was so controversial in its time, that after Anne's death, Charlotte Bronte, her sister, actually prevented the book's publication!

For fantasy, have you ever heard of Empire in Black and Gold by Adrian Tchaikovsky? I've read the first two books and I think it was really good. I'm not sure why it was not more popular or talked about.

message 1948: by Femmy (last edited May 09, 2019 09:42PM) (new)

Femmy | 301 comments I've only read a sample and wasn't really impressed so I didn't buy the book. I rarely like stories where whole groups of people have the same characteristics, such as the beetle people are all one way and the wasp people are all another way. I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine.

What do you like about it?

message 1949: by Anny (new)

Anny | 225 comments Femmy wrote: "I've only read a sample and wasn't really impressed so I didn't buy the book. I rarely like stories where whole groups of people have the same characteristics, such as the beetle people are all one..."

Ah I see. In this case I think it instead added more diversity/specialty to each group. Think of it like the different races in common fantasy tropes.

The beetle are stout, industrious and loves tinkering with tools, much like the dwarf. The mantis and spider are tall, beautiful, deadly and hopeless with tools, well, just like the elf. The fly is small and fast, I think of them like the fairy. The ant is more interesting though, as they share one mind and owe absolute obedience to their queen.

Like in any fantasy novel, these races/groups can be a way to enrich the storytelling, or stifling it as you said before (all beetle are like that, mantis like this, etc). In this case, I think it would be the former. This book's strength lies in its characters and the growth of them. The author, wrote the characters in a way that made the reader sympathize with them and care about them. At least, compared to Hobb's novels (specifically the first two of Farseer trilogy novels), I sympathized with more characters from Tschaikovsky's novels, even with the antagonists. This, I think, is what made this novel stand out for me, the author wrote the antagonists really well, to the point that sometimes I couldn't help but feel for them also.

Sorry for the long ramblings. In our BR group there are only two other persons who are reading this series and they both also wonder why not more people are reading this series. So, I guess, I'm just trying to spread the love here ;)
