Cozy Mysteries discussion

Novemeber is here, time for a new theme. Since there is a lot to do with family and children as well as Thanksgiving in Novemeber the themes will be:

1.- A book about Thanksgiving or Family
2.- A book about books: Library, Librarian, bookstore, book collector, bookbinder, etc.

I'll be reading Murder, She Wrote: A Fatal Feast from our featured author.

I'll be reading , and maybe .

I'll read and search for a Thanksgiving book.

Does anyone know if this will work for Thanksgiving? It sounds like it will.

Yes, it will. It's set at Thanksgiving and involves a cooking contest. I think the contest is either for cooking a turkey or dressing, I can't remember for sure.

I just picked up , so I think that will be my choice.

My theme picks are going to be for Thanksgiving, and for the book theme. I'll try to read for family and for another book theme if I can fit them in!

For my theme reads I am going to read for the Thanksgiving. Then for the books I am going to read .

For this months themes, I'm going with:

for my Thanksgiving theme: Death of a Turkey by Kate Grilley Borden - an old series I found by searching the holiday mystery list at cozy-mysteries.com.

for my Book theme: The Lies That Bind by Kate Carlisle, a book I already had on order anyway and should arrive just in time! :)

I think that for my Book theme I will choose among The Bookwoman's Last Fling (book collector), A Cadger's Curse or The Lies That Bind (I have it in pre-order). For the other themes, I have to look for. I think that for Thanksgiving, I'm going to try Southern Fried.

And I've found my family book too, Pale as the Dead, that I got at Bookmooch and it's at my TBR.

I have and for the Thanksgiving Theme and and for the Book Theme.

For the Thanksgiving theme, I'm going to read The Diva Runs Out of Thyme (yay for it taking place in Alexandria Va!) and for the Books theme, I'll read The Ghost and Mrs. McClure (I didn't read enough Halloween mysteries last month. haha).

UPDATED: Finished both of these and really liked them. I'd definitely read the next in each series.

On the cozy-mystery.com site it lists as a Thanksgiving book..so I'm going to read that one. The other one I'll either read or .

I already read my book theme and I grandfathered myself into the Thanksgiving read with , which I read in October and liked (except for the wicked Natasha).

I am going to read Homicide in Hardcover by Kate Carlisle

I started reading and for the Thanksgiving theme. All the positive reviews have me pulling out of my tbr stack to read this month.

I'm reading Still Life too and loving it. I never thought of it as a Thanksgiving book but really it is albeit in Canada.

I am reading for the Thanksgiving book because it was listed on cozy-mysteries.com as a "thanksgiving" book. It is...but a Canadian Thanksgiving which I'm going to count anyway. I don't think I'm cerebral enough for this book. I just can't get into it. I have a hard time with the language and there seem to be too many characters to start out. I've read such great reviews on here(by people who normally like the same books as me) so I'm going to keep reading and hope I grow to like it!

Hope it grows on you! I think this is a really good series.

Me too Melodie. I almost never disagree with your reviews and opinions of books and series so I'm hoping I'm just slow..ha

I tried one of the Louise Penny books last year,I had read great reviews and the Synopsis on the cover sounded really great, but like Leslie I could not get into the style of writing,and the language was hard to follow. I gave up about half way...Its a real shame I wanted to like it, I wondered if it was just the book I read maybe the others would be different, but I havent read any since.

In my review for Still Life I noted my problems with the French Canadian words and agree it was hard to follow all the characters. I changed from print to audiobook and that helped with some of it, but agree it is not like a normal cozy because you really have to pay attention the whole time.

I finished . It was different from what I normally read...but I ended up liking it. It took me reading over half the book before I got into it but by the time I got to the end I couldn't read fast enough. I wouldn't want to read the next one today but I'm definately ordering it soon.

It took me about half the book before I got into it too :)

This arrived at the Library for me today so I am starting on this one as soon as I finish Pepperoni Pizza Can Be Murder, which I will be glad to do as it is rather boring. Cant wait to start my Thanksgiving theme book! ;)

I just finished White Elephand Dead by Carolyn Hart for the book theme. I am on my way to the library to pick up A Fatal Feast for the Thanksgiving part.

I finished for the Thanksgiving theme and featured author. Started - interesting main character but haven't gotten into the story yet.

Interesting discussion. I read the first chapter of and can see what you mean. Already I am trying to keep up with the different characters in the village. Her books get great reviews, so I plan to go back to it later in the month when I can pay more attention to the story. Maybe over the Thanksgiving holiday.

I've read for the book them. I read too, but the mystery related to book is very weak to think about it as a book theme.

Go back to it for sure Nell...If you can make it through..you'll be so glad you did. I ordered the 2nd in the series yesterday.

I've read for Thanksgivings. Nice reading but not much more.

Finished , for the library portion of the challenge. I really liked it after I got into it. I will read another in the series.
