Janny (jannywurts) | 17 comments I had a quote posted on my author profile page, attributed to Dr. Seuss.

IT CHANGED! It's now attributed to some author's book, (Bernard Baruch) that I've never heard of, and that shows up on a page with no reviews or other information....

I didn't make this change. I didn't particularly choose to push this book (without my knowledge,) and I will take it down in this form (I'd prefer quotes attached to the author, not their books unless the books have relevance) - Politely, I'd like to know if this sort of change is common, on author's profile pages.

I'm certainly not upset, only curious...

rivka Librarians correct quotes in the quotes database regularly. Sounds like someone determined that the quote really came from somewhere before the Seuss book.

In this particular case, I disagree with the edit and have restored it to how it was. But yes, any quote from the database may be corrected or have a link to a book added.

Dapplenose Do they delete multiple quotes, if they notice them?

message 4: by rivka (new)

rivka They merge them into one, which preserves all the people who added them.

Thank you so much - and for the prompt switch, and for the information. You people rock!

Janny (jannywurts) | 17 comments Sigh - it's happened again, the same quote I had posted by Dr. Seuss has been switched to another, dumbed down one that's affiliated with an author and a book I don't truly wish to endorse.

Rivka - if this can be fixed again, I'd mightily appreciate it. If it's a bother to staff (this sort of niggling detail) let me know, and I'll just remove the quotation to avoid the issue.

rivka Sorry, additional research showed that Baruch is the earliest source of the quote.

Janny (jannywurts) | 17 comments Earlier or not, the replacement doesn't carry the same shade of meaning.
I'll delete it if there isn't a way to establish preference.

Thanks for checking.
