Laura (Kyahgirl) (kyahgirl) hello group. I've been a member for awhile here and love reading your discussions.
I was watching Avatar with my kids tonight and the floating mountains reminded me of a great sci-fi/fantasy book I read but I can't remember the title or author.
In this book some people have been lost through a flaw in space to this planet in an unknown part of the universe. A big part of the story happens on a boat; there are families and clans that live on the ocean. They know to watch for these floating island (complete with waterfalls and flora) as they can pose quite a hazard. I vaguely remember some kind of conflict where some of the water clans are fighting bad guys taking over the cities.
At one point, someone is taken prisoner on a scavenging boat and there is this spider like thing that weaves him into the piles of junk.
At another point, a woman protagonist saves some minotaur-like children who have managed to get lost.
Is this ringing any bells for any of you? I think it was written by a woman and I keep thinking there was the word 'red' or 'blue' in the title.

thanks :-)
Laura

Candiss (tantara) I haven't read this, but your description made me curious enough to do some research. I'm going to take a stabbing guess and suggest: Endless Blue by Wen Spencer. The description doesn't clinch it, but various reviews here and on Amazon.com mention the floating islands and etc.

stormhawk | 418 comments Although our Sci-Fi/Fantasy lover percentage is way higher, there is also a group here that specializes in reuniting half-remembered plots (sometimes less!) with their titles and authors because sometimes people wake up wondering what's that name of that book.

The group is called What's the Name of that Book.

Candiss, Thank you!! :-) You were right.
I went to Wen's site and as soon as I saw the cover it all came back. It was a great book, I don't know why I couldn't remember.

Thanks Stormhawk. I think I'll join that group. It looks interesting.

stormhawk | 418 comments I have a lot of fun there, and it's quite exciting when you actually identify a book!
