Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments I had to watch this seven or eight times just to wrap my mind around it.

That last defender should've had him.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments It looked like the quarterback pushed him away with his hand. I'm glad he got the touchdown, though, because of the guts it took to walk through that line nonchalantly. Would this play work in college or the pros?

message 5: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments No. In college & pro ball you use the ball the official puts in front of you. In this game, each team was allowed to use their own ball, thus the successful subterfuge of "this isn't our ball."

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Thanks, Phil, for the info. I think you're saying that the opposing team didn't feel that the ball belonged to them, so was confused when the quarterback walked away with it. Still, I did like watching him walk nonchalantly through that line, and then take off running as fast as his short legs would carry him:)

I didn't it was unsportsman like.

Jim | 6484 comments I'm not that thrilled that the coaches would teach the kids this either.

I'm with Gail and Jim. It's clever, but clearly the coach's idea. I'm not down with adults coming up with ways to con kids.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i coached some flag football for younger kids once and we had a kid who was head and shoulders better than anyone else on the field (4-5th grades). when he touched the ball he mostly scored a touchdown. the other teams would not kick the ball to him on kick-offs. they kicked to the other guy. in a championship game they kept kicking to the other kid or out of bounds. after a huddle/conference of the kids initiated by themselves with no coaches they got ready for a kick-off and the other team kicked away from him and to the other kid. the other kid got it and weaved his way and ran past everyone for a TD. we were all surprised until we realized that in the huddle deal the two boys had switched sock caps and they thought they were kicking away from him but instead kicked right to him. now that trick play devised by kids was really cool

Sarah | 13814 comments Devised by kids, enacted with no help from the coach. Therefore clever.

Your football really makes no sense what so ever.

Félix (habitseven) Amen, Gail.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah but Larry if I said that about any sport you would probably agree. :(

message 16: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) True.

Sarah | 13814 comments I understand lots of sports, but American football is not one of them. We even played it in gym class, but I never figured out what was going on other than I was supposed to kill the carrier, which I liked. The gym teacher called me "tight end" and to this day I'm unsure whether that was intended as a position (never explained to me) or sexual harrassment.

message 18: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments when used by a guy about a girl it was harassment. the same can be said for "wide receiver"

btw - i said harrass to rhyme with paris

I posted that on my FB page a few weeks ago. I LOVE it!!! It cracks me up every time.

Sarah | 13814 comments Yeah, he was a guy. I figured it was inappropriate, but I never bothered to say anything.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Thanks for your thumbs up, Heidi. I was beginning to think I should just delete this thread in shame, as I'm not a true football aficionado. Like you, I laughed when I saw this play, and I wanted to share the laugh.

Sarah | 13814 comments I hate football. This is superficially funny, but it's not kids pulling a trick play on kids. It's a coach pulling a trick play on kids, and teaching both teams bad sportsmanship in the process.
