Jenna (jenna_marie58) Anyone going to a midnight showing? Both my roommates are, but seeing as I work at 6:30am on Friday, it's probably not the best idea for me. I plan on going Friday night though.. and I'll admit, I have a countdown for it in my planner. Anyone else super excited??

I don't like going to the opening nights. We did that the first 3 movies. I much rather wait a few days and go to the newer theater a little ways away, because it is cleaner, and more comfy seats, and less crowded. I guess it is the "Hermit" in me but a lot of people really annoy me.

message 3: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I'm so excited! I have tickets for 12:30 showing. I love the theatre it's at, it's clean, comfy, AND the seats are reserved so we won't get stuck on the front row.

And yes I have a countdown, it's my facebook status at the moment.

message 4: by Neen (new)

Neen I agree with Tami, as much as I want to see it I don't like opening nights or even the first week - way too busy for my liking and I don't like to feel cramped in.

message 5: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I don't have anyone to go see it with! I only have two friends where I go to school who like Harry Potter, my roommate (who's going with her boyfriend, who I don't like) and a friend who is going with her mom and brother as part of a family tradition. I'll have to wait until close to Christmas to see it! Oh well, it's not like I don't already know what going to happen, but still...

message 6: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments I too am a hermit. I am going to wait a day or two and go then. I don't like to deal with large crowds and chaos. I am getting really excited the trailers look awesome!

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I actually have avoided all the trailers/teasers/whatever. I try to close my eyes and hum! Childish, yes, but I want to be surprised on where they break it, their concepts of things and what new stuff they put in. There is always new stuff.

Kelly A, if you were close I would go with you! But Florida is a bit too far.

message 8: by Jenna (last edited Nov 10, 2010 01:33PM) (new)

Jenna (jenna_marie58) Normally, being around a lot of people really bothers me too, but there's something I love about midnight showings. Everyone is so excited and they all share a common passion for whatever the movie is.

Side note: My roommates asked me to make a Harry Potter themed cake because they are having a Harry Potter themed dinner before the midnight showing. I'm pretty new to cake decorating so I want to do something fairly simple and easy. Anyone have good ideas for what Harry Potter symbols I could decorate on the cake? My only idea so far is to cover the cake in white fondant and then make huge black fondant glasses to put on as if the cake was wearing them and then add a little fondant scar where the forehead would be. But that seems almost too simple..

this shows some potter related recipes, but not really sure if any would be what you are looking for. The Dark Mark Cupcakes could be transformed into a full size cake.
and there is this site
http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com...
I remember when I was younger a giant spider cake. I know Aragog isn't in this movie, but it was a simple enough cake. Black icing on a two layer round cake, with pipe cleaners for the legs. I think there was icing in other colors to do some type of face on it.

message 10: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments You could do a lighting bolt and or wands around the edge of the cake if you are making a square cake. You could use the candies from the books to decorate. Every flavored beans(jelly bellies or find the actual thing) etc...

message 11: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samhanson) | 179 comments I can't wait! I'd love to go to a midnight showing but probably won't since I don't think I could find someone to go with me and I don't know if I wanna take public transit home that late. Hopefully I can see it opening weekend at least.

Ahh that sounds so awesome! :)

haha thanks Tami! It's the thought that counts.

message 13: by Anika (new)

Anika (anlynn) | 106 comments I'm so excited for this! I've got midnight showing tickets as well! My friends and I plan on getting to our movie theater at 6 am on thursday so we can be first in line, so it'll be a long day for me! But definitely worth it. This movie better be amazing!

And I'm with Jenna. I'm usually the hermit type too lol but midnight showings are always a must for me, I think because of the crowd they draw. I think I like being among people as passionate as me about a movie/book.

message 14: by Diana (new)

Diana (smiffyblues) I'M SOOOO EXCITED
i have a midterm the following morning, so i need my roommate to make sure i'm awake!! she's not going to the midnight premiere :-(

i just bought my tickets today! Agh, CANNOT wait!

message 15: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I think the crowd they draw here is what turned me off the first showings. For both Sorcerers Stone and Chamber the theater was completely filled with annoying teenagers. Yes I was their age but really! They either talked, applauded, or recited throughout the whole movie. I get laughing at funny parts or gasping or whatever during the scary or suspenseful parts, but it ruined the whole thing for me. During one, not sure which, there was an extremely loud person that kept shouting "that is not right!" clear through the whole thing. Both these were worse than little kids running around the theater when you go see cartoon shows.

message 16: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Tami- that's sad you had such bad experiences. Mine have always been good.

Anyone hear about the nude scenes that are going to be in the movie?

message 17: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I heard they may have been included. I think it must be the 7 Harry's, they were all changing into their Harry clothes in the book and made the real Harry uncomfortable.

Tom Felton (Draco) was supposed to be naked when he was restored from being a ferret during Goblet of Fire, but they changed the filming on that one?

message 18: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments It's actually supposed to be a scene between Harry and Hermione , it's a vision that is shown to Ron when he's fighting a Horcrux and it shows him an imagine of Harry and Hermione in love with each other.

The other scene is in Kings Cross Station when he talks to Dumbledore.

message 19: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I'm so excited! I usually do the midnight showings but now I'm old and grumpy so I'm probably going to wait a few days and go when it's less crowded.

message 20: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Maybe he just likes to be naked, or he still thought he was doing Equus. :)

Okay the Dumbledore Kings Cross scene, I sortof understand, not really, but okay. The other, What are they thinking!

message 21: by Anika (new)

Anika (anlynn) | 106 comments Yah, that's kinda weird. I heard that there is going to be an Equus poster in the background of one of the scenes. I hadn't heard this though... nude scenes in HP is kinda pushing it. lol.

If you want to really nerd it up you could make a snitch cake (like Molly does for Harry's birthday in the 7th book)

I have seen tons of different recipes for Butterbeer around the internet. You may be able to find a different recipe, but it may not be alcoholic.

message 24: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments So... what did everyone think??? I loved it! There were one or two things that I didn't care for, but the rest of it was brilliant!

message 25: by Kjerstin (new)

Kjerstin (kjerstinkaye) I loved the movie as well! I thought it was much better than any of the others. There were a couple of things that bothered me, but overall it was brilliant!

message 26: by Anika (new)

Anika (anlynn) | 106 comments I really loved it also!!! I really like that it was so loyal to the book! What did you guys not like about it? I was a little disappointed by the wedding scene, just because I thought it was going to be bigger and more significant than it was. They also didn't make a big deal about Mad-Eye's death, which kinda bothered me. But overall I think its my favorite so far!

message 27: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Ok, just to warn everyone. All my comments below are spoilers for the movie.

I didn't like how they cut out the scene where Dudley shakes Harry's hand. I loved that in the book and I was sad they changed it. Introducing Bill, and the fact he was engaged to Fleur, and that Lupin and Tonks were married and pregnant all in about 30 seconds was a bit jumbled, but I liked that they put all that there. I was sad that they didn't do much with Mad Eye's death, and the cut one of the twin's line about Mrs. Weasley finally being able to tell them apart. But that is all that I didn't like, everything else was amazing!

Did anyone else cry? Hopefully I wasn't the only one. The scene where Hermione erases her parents' memories was beautifully done. I love that they did that instead of her telling them that she had done it. I cried when Hedwig died. And when Dobby died.

Some of the scenes were just so powerfully done! The scene where Hermione was being tortured by Bellatrix was so well done.

I already want to go see it again!

message 28: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Oh and Dobby's line "Dobby has no Master!" made me tear up again, I loved him!

message 29: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (amazingact21) Kimberly- reading your post about the movie makes me so excited to see it! It sounds like they included all of my favorite parts of the book. I'm so excited to see Bill and am relieved they show Hermione being tortured. I know that sounds gruesome and cruel, but it was such a stand-out part in the book for me.

I wanted to go to the midnight premiere last night, but I was at school for 12 hours all day, and my brother had school this morning. Plus, my boyfriend had to work at 5:30am, and he would've been crushed if I'd gone without him.

However, I am seeing it tomorrow at 1:15!!! Until today, I have steered clear of pictures and trailers, because I want everything to be new. Normally, I've researched so much I don't even need to see the film. I also didn't reread the book, because everyone says I complain about every little missing detail. Therefore, I am seeing it based on memory and not worrying (right now) what they left out.

ps- I'm so jealous of everyone who has already seen it! :)

message 30: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Oooh, I'm excited to talk about that scene with you Alicia, after you've seen it. They added one little detail to it that gave me goosebumps. (Actually it might have been in the book, but I didn't reread it before the movie this time, so I may have forgotten.)

message 31: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments I thought that it was fantastic! I knew that I was going to cry in the begining with Hegwig. There were alot of things that I didn't remember from the book. I had decided not ro re read it before the movie because I wanted to be able to enjoy the movie and not be fustrated by what they didn't do and what they did wrong. So now I am going to listen to the rest of the books and go from there. I thought that where they ended the movie was a great spot. They really couldn't go any further without getting into the aciton of the next.

message 32: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (jenna_marie58) I loved it as well. I thought the way they showed the tale of the brothers- origin of deathly hallows, was brilliant. I also thought the comic timing was spot on. Whenever something was supposed to be funny, my whole theater was roaring with laughter. And of course, the end makes you yearn for more.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

My university was super awesome and gave us 8pm showings on the 18th; that of course made the whole movie that much better. Totally agree with you Jenna the telling of the deathly hallows was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised. I actually think that was my favorite part of the whole movie. The old lady/snake part freaked me out but it was exactly how I imagined it when I was reading. The thing that struck me the most about this movie though is how much the characters have grown. There is a real feeling of finality in every scene.

For the people who have seen it:
I don't know if anyone caught this but when Harry was disguised as a ministry official trying to find Umbridge's office he was kind of stooped over. Did any of you think it was because he was under the invisibility cloak? I thought he was just feeling awkward in someone else's body but apparently he was under the invisibility cloak. I definitely didn't pick up on that.

message 34: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments I didn't pick up on that either.

message 35: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I didn't think he was under the cloak. I thought the actor was just playing up on the way that Daniel Radcliffe walks, he kinda slants he shoulders.

message 36: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Spoilers too!

We were wondering why he was walking that way too. I didn't think about the cloak, but everyone seemed to see him, so I don't think that was it.

I agree with Kimberly, Dudley was finally decent to Harry and that didn't come through at all. Everything else was done well, but a couple things really had me saying What? Dancing with Hermoine anyone? Oh, and I thought they did the Bathilda/Snake scene much better than I imagined from the book. I expected to see the snake coming out of her mouth (Gross), much better to not see that.

Other beautifully, or well done, scenes would include Hermoine and her parents, the 7 Harry's (especially Fluer) and Dobby Rocks! Also Bellatrix stole every scene she was in. I just may have to be Bellatrix for Halloween next year.

Somethings that bothered me a bit, but not too much was the Malfoy's. Lucius and Narcissa looked horrible, which was probably due to the fact they were supposed to be scared, tired, etc. but Draco looked just the same. Also, I read the book so I understood the piece of mirror, but did they mention anything about how it worked in the movie?

message 37: by Anika (new)

Anika (anlynn) | 106 comments As for the ministry scene, it mentions in the book that Harry feels awkward in Runcorn's body, so I'm pretty sure that the weird walking was in reference to that.

As for the mirror, that really bugged me too Tami! I kept wondering when they were going to explain it, but they never do. I guess it'll be explained in the next movie...? But, I mean, for people who haven't read the books, they wouldn't have any idea where the mirror even came from.

The Harry/Hermione dancing scene was really awkward the first time I saw the movie... like wtf!? But the second time I saw the movie I liked it. I thought it did a good job of showing the relationship between the two of them, and also showing that despite Harry trying to cheer her up, Hermione was still really depressed (and therefore really cares) about Ron.

message 38: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I am definitely going to see it again (soon I hope) so maybe it won't be so bad the second time. The first time though, it almost looked to me like Ron was right and Harry was hitting on Hermoine. IDK, maybe it was just me.

message 39: by Anika (new)

Anika (anlynn) | 106 comments Ya, I felt that way too and it did bug me that it Ron and Hermione's relationship wasn't as clear/obvious as it should've been. But still, I liked the dancing scene and the humor that it temporarily added.

message 40: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I finally saw it last night! This is the first Harry Potter movie I've ever seen in a theater and it was awesome...a much different experience than simply watching it on a TV. But overall it was great. I definitely teared up a few times.

message 41: by Knarik (new)

Knarik I have to agree about the dancing scene. It wouldn't be so bad, if the talk Harry and Ron have during the Horcrux scene in the book was present in the movie. Remember, when Harry says that "Hermione is like a sister to me"? He never says it in the movie. The hallows story was very well done. And I just loved the part where Harry and Ginny are in the kitchen and George enters!
But, don't you think Valdemort in the movie isn't as evil as he is in the book? And the Minister of Magic wasn't at all bad, like he was in the book.

message 42: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (amazingact21) I saw this movie last weekend, but I was a little frustrated because the people sitting in front of me were having a conversation throughout the whole movie! I asked them once to please talk in a softer voice, but they ignored me and kept on chatting. Afterwards, I told my boyfriend I needed to see it again so I could actually enjoy it.

Anywho...off that rant. :)
I felt like this movie stayed really close to the book when compared to the last three or four films. Every small detail I wanted to see appeared, and I thought Emma and Rupert's (Hermione and Ron's) acting was phenomenal. Personally, my favorite scenes were when those two were on screen.

The dancing scene was a little off for me, as well. But I can see where the screenwriters where trying to show viewers how little enjoyment the characters get now that they are on the run.

Overall, I think this film (as well as the first one) are the only ones that brought the same emotions to the screen that I felt while reading the book. In movie 5, I was too annoyed with the newspaper clipping fades, etc. In movie 6, I didn't feel the sadness and suspence that I did in the novel. But Part 7 was spot-on for me. The humor, nostalgia, and horror were done very well. I can't wait to see it again!

message 43: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samhanson) | 179 comments Finally saw it! I liked it a lot. I was kind of surprised by how much I forgot of the book and previous movies actually so I was a little confused at points until I remembered. Mostly I thought it was really well done and I'm excited for the next one. I actually liked the scene with Harry and Hermione dancing. I feel like not enough movies show platonic but close friendships between girls and boys and I think Harry Potter does a great job with that.

message 44: by SarahSaysRead (new)

SarahSaysRead I saw this about a week ago and liked it, but it's definitely not my favorite. Some parts moved a little too slowly for me.

I thought the Hermione and Harry dance was really awkward... I felt awkward just watching it, lol. My sister said it was just to show him trying to cheer her up, but a quick hug would've done the same and been less painful to watch.

I REALLY liked the Hallows story. The imagery was very cool.

I was a little disappointed near the end when they had the confrontation with Wormtail. In the book, he can't kill Harry because Harry saved his life once, and then he ends up getting choked to death by his own silver hand. Kind of bummed me out that they left that out and just did a quick dash out of the cellar.

Other than that though, it was pretty good. Can't wait until the second movie, that should be a lot more exciting and fast-paced!
