I have a book that has a number on the back cover I'm not familiar with. It may have nothing to do with cataloging but it's driving me crazy trying to figure out what it means.

At the bottom of the back cover, there is the publisher's information, the cover image information and on the bottom line is the ISBN (0 460 01022 0) and then, on the same line about an inch over the number is: 2/76

What is 2/76?

I appreciate anyone who can answer this for me! Thanks!

Kara Babcock (tachyondecay) | 63 comments That looks like a number out of a total quantity—i.e., 2 out of 76 total copies. Is it some sort of ARC or special edition?

If that's not it and no one else provides a suitable suggestion, try posting a photo. Someone might have seen it before.

vicki_girl | 2764 comments Is it a date? According to Worldcat, that ISBN was published in 1972. Could it be a February 1976 reprint?

Liam (dimestoreliam) | 51 comments I believe that number would be the date the particular edition was published. On some books, it can be found on the bottom of the front or rear dust jacket flap. Examples would be ISBN 0394714512 (rear flap) and ISBN 0394450361 (front flap).
