Martha (hellocthulhu) | 3 comments Hey guys, I am looking for some recs for my boyfriend I can get him as holiday gifts. Our tastes don't overlap much in books, I am a horror and dark fantasy reader mainly, and he has read most of the fantasy I have; but what he really loves are all the Dark Elf books by RA Salvatore. He's also enjoyed the Lord of the Rings books and Dan Simmons' Hyperion books. I have looked at many fantasy lists on Amazon and GR, but still I'm not really sure if I would be choosing something he'd like. Any suggestions?

I haven't read Drizzt in years, so I may be off base, but perhaps the Brent Weeks The Night Angel Trilogy?

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2717 comments If he likes the Drizzt books, he might like the Dragonlance Chronicles. I also agree with Ala, the Weeks' books could work.

Also, I might recommend the Chronicles of the Necromancer, starting with The Summoner by Gail Z. Martin. This mostly comes from the fact that I really like that series, and I liked the Drizzt books, too.

Does he play World of Warcraft at all? If so, they have a tons of books set in that world which, imo, sort of read like the Drizzt type stuff. I've only read snippets of them, but hubbie, who recommended the Drizzt books to me, really enjoys the Warcraft books.

Martha (hellocthulhu) | 3 comments The Night Angel Trilogy sounds perfect! Dragonlance looks like a good bet as well. Thanks very much!

No Warcraft in my home. I have strong feelings about online gaming ruining relationships if only one half of a couple plays them.

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) | 464 comments A few days late, but there is a really cool website out there called Literature Map (link here).

You can put in an author's name and get similar authors out!

Dirk Grobbelaar (dirkg) Salvatore's other Forgotten Realms series, The Cleric Quintet. Starting with Canticle, or you can get the omnibus edition: The Cleric Quintet Collector's Edition.
