Brittomart Luckily, my review session today isn't until 5, so I can go back after my last class and get it, but still ugh. 5 whole hours without my phone!

How do you feel after you've left your phone at home? Do you feel naked? I feel naked. Or do you not care?

message 2: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I don't like it at all. Even though I don't use it much, I like knowing that I can be reached if there's an emergency.

janine | 7709 comments i like having my phone with me, but when i know i will be with other people the whole time, who will have their phones with them, i will leave it at home.

message 4: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments I forget mine frequently, but I don't care.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm probably the only person that doesn't own a phone at the moment.

I only mind if I'm on my way to meet someone and we have to coordinate by phone. Like, I'm supposed to call them from some downtown street corner to ask where they are. Or, if I'm kidnapped, I want to be able to make calls from the inside of someone's trunk. Otherwise, I don't care at all.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't mind on the rare occasion I forget to take my phone, my husband however gets quite cross with me. :P

message 9: by Spellbound (new)

Spellbound (spellboundreads) | 117 comments I don't really care. Even if I have the phone with me I rarely answer: it is so deeply buried in my handbag that even the bionic woman couldn't hear it.
I get upset when I need it because I'm stuck somewhere and I realise it is peacefully resting on the table at home.

message 10: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1106 comments I leave my phone all over the place, so I have very bad reply etiquette. You could send me a message and I wouldn't actually reply until the sky changes colour. That goes for even if I do have my phone with me, I just don't feel like responding and run along my merry way.

message 11: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments This reminds me of the scene in Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle when they have to decide whether or not to go back for their phone and the filmmakers use a lens to make the ten foot walk back to the apartment look like extensive.

I don't like leaving my phone at home. I feel weird. But my office is in a basement so reception sucks so I usually leave my phone in the car or don't expect calls while at work.

I'm also seeing the advantages of texts more. You can get three words from a person and not have to talk with them about other things.

I feel sorry for kids these days with cell phones that enable their parents to (attempt) to keep track of them or just pester them in general.

My parents had absoltely no idea where my sister and me were half the time.

You would've fit right in at Casa Clark, KD, Kiss records and all.

I agree wholeheartedly. So many kids these days are going to have extra work to do gnawing through that never-severed umbilical cord when they finally turn 27 and move out.

message 15: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Sally, I think you meant to say "turn 47 and move out," right?

message 16: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I guess so. I just say it because I moved back home when I was 23 and didn't leave until I was 27 to move in with Sweeter. I'm such a cliche.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I've had to learn to take my phone with me, and keep it nearby instead of off in my purse in another room. I'm old, I was used to the phone being at HOME, not with me.
Brave new world...

message 18: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments It's true Jackie. For better or worse, people's expectations about being able to locate one another by phone have changed. For a long time, I resisted keeping my cell phone on me but eventually gave in.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments And now, I'm addicted to my phone, but that's because I can check my email and play Scrabble on it, not because I'm actually using it as a phone.

message 20: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Me too. I use mine way more for email than phone calls. Then there are the occasional text messages from my niece and nephew that always leave me scratching my head, trying to remember how to reply.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I can reply to text just fine, it's the initiating one that I'm not sure how to do, Jonathan.

message 22: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Oh that's way beyond me. I think my nephew also goes out of his way to use abbreviations that I can't decipher. My text replies to him are mostly all the same--"Huh?"--so this at least keeps things simple.

Hahahahahaha!!! I think I've done all my texting on trips to Portland, mostly thanks to Sarah Montambo. I think I'm a decade too old to take to it naturally.
I need a glossary for the abbreviations.

smetchie | 4034 comments I used to leave my phone at home all the time and not care. But now that I have a smart phone I HATE being separated from it. It's my everything. Sad.

Me too.
Who is Sarah Montambo? Is she on TC?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Yes, Sarah Montambo is a moderator over in the Hater's Club, and a school teacher/librarian who works in Portland, and she's adorable. She's the first person to ever text me.
I think I can still count all the texts I've ever sent on my fingers...

But how else would you text except with your fingers?

Tell me about it, Gretchen! I really should be reading, or something, not staring at my phone all the time!
And, groan, Jonathan...

Phil | 11837 comments His comment was nicer than the one I was mulling over.

"I think I can still count all the texts I've ever sent on my fingers."

Well sure, why not, you 42-fingered freak.

See how much more polite his was?
