Jeanne (jeannekc) Are you planning to read? Are you reading it? or have you read it?

If you hurry, there may still be free ebook versions: Kindle | Nook | Also available for ipad on iBookstore

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 55 comments I plan on reading it along with everybody else.

message 3: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Reading and enjoying the first book in the series, The Crown Conspiracy, right now. I definitely plan on reading the second next month.

message 4: by Julie (new)

Julie Not sure. I haven't read the first book yet and I don't like to jump into series in the middle. Plus I'm still under my no new books to the end of the year ban. I've gotten confirmation that my no new books ban means even those that are free. *grin*

message 5: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Finished the first one recently, and really enjoyed it. Hopefully I'll be able to read it along with everybody next month.

Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments For those who are not familiar with the series - You can definitely read Book #2 without reading Book #1 - This book has been in a number of bookclubs that have done just that. There are appopriate cross refenences to any important information you need to know about from Book #1.

So glad that this was the winner - I was starting to feel like Susan Lucci ;-)

Looking forward to the discussion.

meleah (meleahreads) Read and loved.

message 8: by Jon (new) - added it

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments I read this in April 2009. My review found here. I won't be re-reading but may join in the discussions.

message 9: by Dawn (new) - added it

Dawn (breakofdawn) I'm going to try to squeeze this in, I might be a little late to the discussion though.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) I'll have to check out book 1, I can't stand reading out of order. This is a series I've been meaning to check out.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Read it when it came out. My personal favorite :)

message 12: by Tammy (new)

Tammy I have just started reading this series. I am reading Wintertide right now. I finished Avempartha Thanksgiving weekend.

I will have to start with Book I as well...

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) It's kind of hard getting a hold of book one . . .

If you don't mind audio, it's available free here..

http://www.podiobooks.com/title/the-c...

You can also download it free through iTunes.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) Oooo, thank you. I'm not sure how itunes works, can I convert it to MP3?

message 17: by Dawn (new) - added it

Dawn (breakofdawn) I got mine from iTunes, and it was in mp3 format already.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) Goodie! Thanks, sometimes that stuff goes right over my head.

Y'all need to look no further than the thread in this group for the series: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...

There's even a discount for GR members if you follow the links. And they're personally signed copies if you order from the author's site.

message 21: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Broadwell (nikkibroadwell) Thanks for that!

does it work to read book 2 and then book 1 or are they sequential? I just ordered them and plan to participate in discussion in January!

I know many many people who have read them 'in reverse' - mainly because they started with Avempartha and liked it so much they wanted to know what came before.

That being said - they are sequential - so reading book 2 will provide some "spoilers" to book 1 - so if you can read in sequence you should - but if you "miss out" on book 1 you won't be "lost" as anything that happened in it that you need to know about is revealed -- you'll just miss some of the "inside jokes" that readers of 1 will get a kick out of.

message 24: by Robin (last edited Dec 01, 2010 05:48PM) (new) - added it

Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments Yes, as a "small press" offering it generally is not "sitting in the bookstores" - you can have them order it for you, or go to an online source like Amazon B&N or book despository, or you can get signed copies (15%) from this link:

http://www.michaelsullivan-author.com...

Getting it in the bookstore won't be a problem soon as this series has been picked up by one of the big 6 NY publishers. Once they put out their version (won't happen until Fall of 2011) it will be in every bookstore around - or so the theory goes ;-)

Hey Tammy - wow you are fast!! - I hope you've enjoyed the series so far. I LOVE Wintertide.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) Hmmm . . . I like what I've heard so far of book one. I'm wondering if I should just hold of until next fall for those easy to get copies. Do you know if they will be in massmarket paperback?

No idea...but if you wait then you miss out on having the "limited release" first editions ;-)

message 28: by Adam (new) - rated it 5 stars

Adam Franklin Yeah!! This is a FANTASTIC book - so glad it won - this is a "must read" and I can't wait to talk to others about it.

Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments Wave Adam !! - Glad you liked the book and hope you checkout the rest in the series.

message 30: by Robin (new) - added it

Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments OMG!! Just found out that Book #5 of the Series: The Emerald Storm is a 2010 GoodReads Choice Awards Nominee for Fantasy!! For those that don't know Michael is published through an "indie" press - and is the only non large press book in this list! Here are some of the others listed several NYT Bestselling authors!! - Weeks, Sanderson, Jordan, Guy Gavriel Kay, Brett...Unreal!

Voting is open through the end of the year: Vote here

Zero chance of winning against such heavy weights - but it is truly an honor to be in the same company!

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) That's amazing. Myabe I will buy some of those first editions. ^_-

Amelia (narknon) Read the whole series so far. Love it! I don't think I'll reread Avempartha at this time, but I'll watch the discussion and comment if I have anything to add to it.

stormhawk I read Avempartha because of the free offer, and because I don't like skipping around a series, I read The Crown Conspiracy first ... good thing too, since although Avempartha stands alone, it does include spoilers on the first book, which was a dandy fantasy.

Kaaren (kaarenc) | 4 comments Started it but after reading this thread I am going to get the first one in the series then read both.

message 35: by Robin (new) - added it

Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments I'm so excited...I'm even going to go back and do a re-read even though I've read it so many times in the past.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 55 comments Shera, do you have a ereader? The ebooks available from the link here on GR are very well priced. Now that I have to watch what I buy I am so happy when I find great books for a great price.

I have never read a series out of order before, but I started Avempartha a couple days ago without reading the first. I am having no trouble keeping up even though I missed the first. I am just over halfway and I think it is very original and entertaining so far.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) Glad you like it Carrie.

No ereader, I'm a paper copy person.

Qylie | 33 comments Reading book 1 of the series now, then on to book 2. I have both in ebook if anyone needs :-)

message 39: by Scott Stead (new)

Scott Stead I'll be on board with Avempartha. Have not read the first book in series but I have heard rumor it is acceptable to jump right into number two.

stormhawk You'll learn a lot of how the first book ended, so if you're a fast reader, it's a good idea to go for both, IMHO.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I'm currently reading Avempartha. I found the first book meh, but am generally liking this one better.

Also - I agree with stormhawk. There are a lot of spoilers for the first book in the second, so I wouldn't want to read them out of order, personally.

Qylie | 33 comments Both books were super quick reads. I do recommend reading the first book first.

message 43: by Sarah (last edited Dec 27, 2010 07:13AM) (new)

Sarah Didn't get to it this month, unfortunately...I might make it in time for the discussions, though, if I manage to catch up.
