Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11206 comments 25.4 -- Beth NC's task - IMBOLC
Feb 1st, is a Celtic day of celebration that marks the middle of Winter and holds the promise of Spring. It is also known as Candlemas and St Brigid’s day. For this task read a book that is about or based on Celtic Mythology. Examples: anything about King Arthur, Celtic Myths and Legends, Daughter of the Forest, Morrigan's Cross, The Mists of Avalon, Druids. This list might help, too -- Tagged as Celtic Mythology. However, as with all lists, be careful! If you are unsure whether or not a book will fit the task, ask in the task help thread.
AND
Read a book with a candle or flame(s)/fire on the cover or in the title (or series name).
Required: If using the cover options, include the cover in your post. If using a book with the words candle, flame, or fire in the series name, list the series name when you post.

Yes, Guinevere is part of the Arthur legend so it is celtic also.

message 21: by Liz (new)

Liz Would Here be Dragons or Hood work for part A?

message 22: by Foxy Grandma (new)

Foxy Grandma (foxygrandma) | 1194 comments Liz wrote: "Would Here be Dragons or Hood work for part A?"

From the description Here Be Dragons seems to be more history than celtic mythology.

After consideration, I will allow Hood, it isn't really based on celtic mythology, since Robin Hood is a more modern myth, but I didn't specify ancient or modern mythology so I will allow it.

The Book of Three and the rest of the series are based on Celtic mythological themes. Many of the characters and situations are direct descendants of Irish and/or Welsh myths.

I know The Mists of Avalon will work.

What about -- A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court or Bloodfever. I found Bloodfever on the Library Thing list, but I'm not sure if it'll work... Thanks! ;o)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments Kristi -- Do Mists! I know it's a very long read but well worth it. Then you might get sucked into the other Avalon books. Like um..*gulp* me!

Beth NC -- Mists is so memorable. The miniseries didn't live up to the books. Did you read the two MZB books based off Atlantis and Troy?

Also, the Daughter of the Forest series is WONDERFUL for Part A - the Celtic "swans" myth.

Mists has been on my TBR pile for forever! I'm going to put it in this challenge somewhere I'm pretty sure (it fits a few other tasks as well). But I want to read Bloodfever, too. I always have this problem. There are just too many interesting books out there that I want to read! ;o)
