Kathleen I see that you're reading A Christmas Memory. I saw it on Ivan's list last year, got it from the library, and loved it. I finally found the movie through Blockbuster (the good version that Ivan recommended). I'm also giving the book as a Christmas gift this year. Have fun.

Linda2 Kathleen, was your DVD a good copy, with color?

message 5: by Kathleen (last edited Dec 09, 2010 09:39AM) (new)

Kathleen Actually, I cancelled the order because I remember Ivan telling me last year not to get the version with Patty Duke. I can't find the earlier version, which Ivan recommended. I just received the book, though, from Amazon, and it came with an audio CD. Looks like a great Christmas gift for the right family. I bought one for my son.

Ivan | 561 comments That book features Celeste Holm reading the story. I have that too. I've never understood why it is that the version of Capote reading the story is not available. However, an abridged broadcast of his reading was played on NPR's "This American Life" a few years back. It's really special.

Linda2 Here's the full version, Ivan. I'm going to try some of my tools for downloading it.

Linda2 And here: http://disembedded.wordpress.com/2007...

And his nasal voice IS annoying, although you might not agree.

Linda2 Re: C's reading on NPR not being available commercially--it might not have been released commercially by NPR.

I'd rather watch this pirated black-and-white version than nothing at all. I had no idea the TV program was so beloved till I started researching.

There are programs for downloading any audio that goes through your speakers. One is FreeCorder, but I recommend removing it after the download because it contains spyware and a very annoying toolbar.

Linda2 The web is out there, Ivan, just use your keywords in a major search engine; it's not magic. Heck, I had never touched a computer till I was 50.

Please be careful with Freecorder. I'm installing it just for this audio file.

You owe me one; I'll think of something. Maybe a pound of flesh. :D

Linda2 OK, here's the one you want:

http://www.applian.com/downloads.php Freecorder 4 Toolbar, almost at the bottom.

And the reason I recommend downloading is, of course, that web pages disappear.

Take ten; I'd never miss it :D

Kathleen Wow. Thanks, Ivan and Rochelle. Didn't know that existed. Hope I can access it.

Yes, you're right. It's Celeste H.

Ivan | 561 comments Oh, the Christmas tree is up - just lovely. Starting to feel like Christmas. A new Christmas tradition is to watch a DVD of Rick Steve's "European Christmas" - a truly wonderful and inspiring look at how the holiday is celebrated in different places.

Kathleen Sounds great, Ivan. Sounds like a great tradition in the making.
