Use this thread if you are reading through the book and you want to talk about it. For example, if you are anything like me, if something crazy happens in a book I always want to talk about it right after it happens! It's also nice to discuss with others who are reading through it. Please make sure at the top of every thing you post you have a SPOILER warning and say up to what page you are on.

SarahSaysRead Hey guys, I'm the leader for this discussion. This is my first time doing this, so bear with me, cause I'm a newbie.

I'll try to keep a copy of the book around so I can come up with questions as we go along (I just read this earlier in the year).

As for now - what's your first impression of the characters? Of Heathcliff, of Cathy, of Hindley?

Are you having any trouble keeping track of who's who? I did at first, since Emily repeats names a lot.

Lori Walker I'm about 100 pages in. I rather like the characters. I know I really shouldn't, but I find myself genuinely liking Cathy and Heathcliff, even as they annoy the tar out of me.

I can't wait to read further.

They really are complex characters. I think Heathcliff is one of my favorite literary characters ever.

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments I'm going to try to participate in this group read. I've tried to read the book a few times before but I can't seem to get more than 20 pages in.

SarahSaysRead Jen, glad to have you join us!

I can have the same trouble sometimes getting into these "classic" books. I read the Barnes and Noble version, which put definitions and translations at the bottom of the page and that was really helpful.

Also, if you're having trouble following what's going on or who's who, go to sparknotes.com and read the section for the paragraph you're on. It helps to clear up the confusion.

(I also watched a movie version of it before I read the book, so I had faces to put to the names. Made it MUCH easier!)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments I have the B&N version and I tried to read the introduction but I found it boring. Sparknotes is such a good idea! That will probably help a lot!

SarahSaysRead Just checking in to see how everyone's doing! Any thoughts, comments, issues, opinions? :o)

Lori Walker My progress on this one kind of stalled. I'm hoping to pick it back up after school gets out for break.

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments I just can't seem to get into this book. I keep trying but I'm having so much trouble with it.
