Jeanne (jeannekc) According to what has been revealed in the press, this is the first book in Sanderson's epic series with an undetermined number of books in it. What do you think about this start? Will you be sticking around for the rest of the series?

I've heard the figure '10' being bandied about in terms of book count, but I couldn't tell you now whether the places I heard that could really be counted as 'official' or not.

In any event, yes.

It's true that this first book was largely setup. In terms of actual events taking place... Well, there weren't many of them. Not much really happened yet I never personally felt that the pace was off or too slow or that I was having to forcibly drag my way through anything.

I enjoyed every moment of it and it left me with a definite thirst for more. The potential of the series is astounding and I believe Brandon can deliver on it. (Deliver on it in a relatively timely manner as well, which is one of the few things keeping me sane having finished it already! :P)

Amelia (narknon) One of my friends had an arc and had read it before the book was out already. It was so funny because he was already waiting for the second book and the first one hadn't even been officially published yet.

This book blew me away. I loved it. It truly has some amazing potential.

Count me in to read this series to the very last book, even if it does take 20+ years to read them all.

Robin (robinsullivan) | 629 comments 10!! Wow - I've still not read WOT or Song of Fire and Ice - I feel very, very, behind.

meleah (meleahreads) I will definitely be sticking around. I loved the first book. It's having to wait for the next book that will be hard. But right now I don't think I'll mind re-reading the books each time. Ask me again in a few years. =)

Julie The number of books in a series never influences me in my decision to read or not read the books. I enjoy Sanderson's writing style and believe that he has a strong idea of where this whole story is going and how he wants to tell it. I just love storytelling in general and I'm grateful that there authors out there that want to give me a good tale to read. Especially now as I dream of curling up with a good book next to the fire. Of course that will have to wait until I get done with work today but it is something to look forward to.

This Is Not The Michael You're Looking For I plan on reading them now, but that may change through time. It may depend a lot on how well the series is planned out and whether Sanderson starts meandering through a neverending repetition of larger and more complex knots (as so many other epic authors have done). I'm hopeful, but we'll just have to see.

Laurel I have a number of friends who followed the Wheel of Time from the beginning. They have memories of growing up with it, excitedly standing in line to buy the most recent one, and so on. I started it later, and have felt like I've missed out on part of the community that has developed around it.

But now, I have Sanderdon's series! I can't wait to be there for the release if each book, predict future storylines with friends over drinks! This is my epic, and it couldn't have been written by anyone better!!!

Julie Laurel, I hadn't thought about it that way. But you are right. I've had some interesting conversations with colleagues and random people on planes about Wheel of Time. For us Fantasy readers some great connections or bookmarks in our life are associated to this series.

Rob (tor60) Well all because of the comments here and other discussions I have decided that "Way of kings" is my next book. I picked it up today and hope to start on it this evening. I am one of those who has never read WoT though I have read and love F&I.
Looking forward to starting the book :-)

Sandi (sandikal) I don't do seemingly endless epic fantasy series. I liked A Game of Thrones, but didn't read on because I just didn't want to commit that much time to a series that wasn't even finished. I like variety in my reading and a trilogy is about as much as I can handle in fantasy. The exception would be urban fantasy where the books are shorter and less complex.

That said, I will be continuing The Stormlight Archives despite my objections to the whole 10,000 page epic opus concept. I love Sanderson's previous work and I am confident that he will complete future volumes of this series in a timely manner. The man is excellent at follow-through. I can't wait to see what comes next.
