I'm going to challenge myself to read a genre that I don't read and that's paranormal. I do own some. I have my reasons as to why I buy them.

So, while I am away for three days, I will give one of my paranormal books a try. I hope it holds my attention. I don't want to bring a long book with me. I will not give the name away, until after I get back from my retreat. I'll share with you all what I thought. I don't plan to finish the book while I am away.

This thread is open for anyone else that wants to challenge themselves to try another genre. There are some genre that I will never touch. Paranormal is the only genre that I have to challenge myself to read so far.

message 2: by Othena (new)

Othena Good luck with your challenge. Paranormal is one of my favorite genres and I'm always on the look out for new authors so I'm curious as to who you chose.

If I can think of a genre I haven't tried I'll join in. Anyway, good luck and hope you enjoy the book.

If the Lord says the same, I'll share the book Saturday, when I get back home.

The paranormal book that I have picked to read is Lover's Bite (Wings in the Night, #14) by Maggie Shayne and so far it has my attention. Jack is the hero and he's being bad. Topaz is the heroine. These two are in love with one another. Oh and they are vampires.

I will write my review, after I finish reading the book. I don't know when that will be.

I am curious to see what you'll think of it, Arch. My sister really likes her books.

message 7: by Arch (new)

Arch | 4246 comments Mod
I like the tension between Jack and Topaz.

This is a face pace book. Before I know it, I will be at page 200 and this book is 400 pages long. I don't usually care for long books.

The writing is big and fast pace. I like that.

I'm finished reading my first paranormal challenge book. I have to say it's not a winner for me. I will review it later. I've given it 2 stars, I might add a 1/2 star to it.

Review is coming soon.

That's too bad, Arch. At least you tried something different.

message 11: by Arch (new)

Arch | 4246 comments Mod
Yes Danielle. I am still on my challenge. I'm going to give another paranormal book my attention. I was going to add this book to my blog, but I'm not.

The next paranormal book that I will try is:

No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #3) by Kresley Cole

I'll let you all know when I start it.

message 13: by Othena (new)

Othena Arch, I really liked No Rest for the Wicked. I loaned it to a friend who doesn't read anything PRN but JR Ward & Charlaine Harris and she liked it.

I didn't care for the Maggie Shayne series and I can't pinpoint why. Maybe because nothing stood out to me. But I do like her romantic suspense stuff.

message 14: by Ally (new)

Ally | 75 comments No Rest for the Wicked is the only Kresely Cole book I couldn't finish! I'm a huge PNR junkie but seriously I really disliked this book! Good luck with it, I hope you enjoy it more than I did!

Othena, I have two other books by Maggie that's not vampire books. I will try to read those one day.

I will be reading No Rest For The Wicked soon. I might start it Sunday, because I'm starting another book for another personal challenge that I am doing.

I'll share my feelings in my review Ally, if I finish the book. I'll let you all know if I couldn't finished the book. Books that I don't finish, I don't write reviews on.

I hope it's better than the last vampire book that I have read.

I think it will be. It's a little racy as far as sex, but the story is very captivating. The humor is great! I think you'd love Sebastian.

message 19: by Arch (new)

Arch | 4246 comments Mod
racy sex? As in what are you talking about?

Plesae, give me an example.

message 20: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 14 comments One thing I love about Kresley Cole's IAD series books is the humor. Her dialogue is often fall-down-laughing funny, and her characters are quirky and always interesting. I guess it's obvious I'm a fangirl, but her books are a nice counterpoint to the dark, angsty world of the JR Ward BDB series (which I also enjoy, but for different reasons).

Lisa,

I love when a book can make me laugh.

message 22: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 14 comments I do, too. Especially with witty dialogue that is true to the personality of the characters, and Cole has a gift for great dialogue, IMO.

A lot of heavy petting to climax, oral sex, vaginal sex.

Thanks Danielle. I'll have to think about this book.

I like humor. I would have to skip a lot of scenes, if I do read this book.

It's worth reading, even if you skip some of the sex scenes. I think you'd like the humor and the hero.

I like when a hero is tough too.

I like when a bad boy is sarcastic, sassy by the mouth, outspoken and walk in humor shoes.

I put sex in my novels, because it's part of life. However, I think that too much graphic stuff is boring. For me, it's always been far more erotic to imagine what the characters are doing rather than having it fed to you.

I'm reading another paranormal book. Scandal In Copper Lake (Silhouette Romantic Suspense) by Marilyn Pappano

Othena,

I've checked this book out from the library back in 2009, but didn't get a chance to read it, but found it at the last library sale I've gone to. I will write a review on here and on my blog about the book.

I'll let you know when my review is up for Bonds of Justice. I'm still reading it.

message 41: by Othena (new)

Othena Arch

I hope you like The Truth About Tate. It was a 3 star read for me.

It's funny what works for different readers. I have to force myself to read historicals. I've only read 1 of the 3 Rohan books by Anne Stuart even tho I love her writing. But throw in any element of paranormal and I'll gobble it up. :)

I really hope you like Bonds of Justice.

Othena,

I'll let you know when I am reading The Truth About Tate, which will be a while now.

I'm about to go read a little to Bonds of Justice. This will be my last paranormal book for a while. My challenge is not drawing me to paranormal books, but I'm doing it as a challenge.
