Kay | 34 comments Hey, I'm Kay I been member Goodreads few months, still getting hang of it. I was sick last week so catching up, I want to send a Thanks to Dee for your help yesterday. I love to read and review romance all sub genres books.I still don't total know exactly that I am doing everything right, but I am glad there are nice members that have guided me in the right direction. I enjoy being with others that enjoy reading books as I do!

Ruby (princessbookwrm) | 1 comments Hey everyone,
Im a newbie in here! I have been reading since forever.

But it seems I can never remember my goals or keep track of them, especially when my job shifts change. So lately I have been not participating in any reading challenges.

This last two years I have found a new love in indie authors! Those struggling to get their name and work out there. There are so many with so much potential!

Rebecca Morean (ramorean) | 1 comments I have to admit that Goodreads in general has always overwhelmed me. I am afraid to step on toes, that I am going to post the wrong thing, promote in the wrogn spot...I love to read and publish leterary fiction and in my first foray into romance writing, sold a novel immediately to Harlequin AU (Escape). A second will be out this spring. I don't know how to find my readers though (I write contemporary, funny Notting Hill-esque books)....ANY HELP would be great. I climbed on to Twitter last year and FB, but can be a Luddite of sorts.

Chan | 5093 comments Oh no...the oldest comment is from 2015. I hope this site is still active.

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments We're very much still active! Just not this particular thread...I guess maybe nobody has come up with any new tips that haven't already been covered. ;-) If you have any questions though, feel free to jump in and ask here, or in any of the other threads - there are lots of friendly people here who will be more than willing to help!

message 57: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Whew...thanks Karen. I'm uber-excited about this site! I'm really interested in participating in book buddys. Can you help me with that?

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Hi Chan, unfortunately right now we don't have a lot in the way of organized buddy reads, and the challenges that tend to generate them most have either just started - the PIFM (Pick It For Me) challenge (the current month's challenge thread can be found here so you can get an idea how it works) and the Meet and Greet challenge (found here) - or are in a lull between rounds, like the Pass the Parcel challenge. We do have a group buddy read for the month of December, found here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/.... Also, if you just poke around in some of the challenge threads, especially the monthly ones, you very likely will be able to connect with people who are interested in buddy reads. Keep in mind though that it's that time of year when people are busy with everything else but reading, so if you don't get any takers right away, don't give up on us! We generally have an increase in activity after the first of the year. All of the new monthly and yearly challenges that will start the beginning of January, and also a couple of new Quarterly challenges, will be posted starting around the middle of the month, so be sure to check them out!

Good luck Chan! I need to check out December's BR as well. Real life (RL) is kicking a LOT of butt around here ;)

I started with the monthly challenge - it's 10 books, but you can do less or more if you want. That's where I started. Here's a link to January's Challenge - my link text

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 524 comments I am new to the group & have a question... do we have to read strictly romance books for our books to count for the challenges within the grouo? I know some genre-based groups are like that, so I wanted to double check! Thank you! ;)

message 65: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Frankie and welcome to the group!

Unless the challenge specifically mentions that all of the books need to be romance (i.e. The Bachelor Challenge), you can read whatever genres you want :)
The only time you will need to stick to romance is if a specific challenge posts that requirement.

message 67: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 1 comments Hi everybody!

I just joined, and this is my first group.
I started my reading challenge Late last year, with just a goal of 100- I made it, but barely! .

This year, I really wanted to challenge myself with reading more classics, re-read some favorites and reading some self-help/non-fiction.
That goal went out the window early in the year.

But my main goal was to read 350 books. I figured I’m a mom, to 2 special needs kids, but I can handle a book a day.
Well, I made that goal in July. Now I’m working towards 500. (431)

My son would demand I just sit and hold him after school. He wanted quiet mommy time, so I would love on him while I read a book with my other hand. (Of course after I read to him and played whatever he wanted)

Reading is my one escape from the struggles that our family deals with.
I’m not ashamed (maybe I should be) but my obsessiveness on this goal keeps me from researching, and falling down those medical rabbit-holes.

Good luck with y’alls goals!

message 68: by Christine (new)

Christine Hello everyone! It was nice to read everyone’s post.

message 69: by Elspeth (new)

Elspeth (elspethm) | 42 comments I joined this group because I'm addicted to reading challenges and romance novels :)

Last year I completed 11 challenges, many with different books! This year I wasn't going to do as many, but the year is young. I'm working on 8 right now:

Read Harder
Booklist Queen
PopSugar
52 Books
Around the Year
A to Z titles
A to Z Romance titles
Unapologetic Romance Readers

I usually find some good books based on my challenges, but this year I only want to read romances so I like to get the easy ones over with first.

L.A. Power (lapower) | 2 comments I'm only recently new to the group and not fully aware how it works. I'm a romance author and I read anything. Open to all recommendations. I'll not plug my book on here as not sure its allowed. I look forward to chatting with and getting to know some of you. L A POWER ❤️

Aakriti Patni (aakriti_goodreads) | 2 comments Hi! I’m new around here and not sure how it works. Do we all participate in the reading challenge, exchange book recommendations or read the same book and discuss it? I’m really excited to be a part of the group! 💞

Hi - you just check out the various challenges on offer and join any of the ones you think sound fun and suit your reading.

Its fun to check out what others are reading in the challenges. Feel free to comment on any books that interest you, or that you enjoyed, with any of our members in those challenge threads (or chat threads).

The only time members read the same book is in the buddy read threads which generally arise when members realise/plan to read the same book. This could be because they started chatting about it, or are in a team challenge together...

Shruti | 2 comments Hey, I have put my heart and soul into writing this book- She who painted her own Universe. I am a big fan of Romantasy and fantasy fiction, and I tried to create a perfect blend of ACOTAR, Divergent, shadow hunters, etc. The e-book version is finally out, so if this sounds something like you- please do give it a read🥀 She Who Painted Her Own Universe
