Has anyone ever felt like they have "over read" themselves?

I feel a bit like that. So I'm taking a reading break.
It will probably only last a week lol
But I feel I need to give myself that

Anyone else ever feel like this?

message 2: by Naz (new)

Naz (nazz) Yup... It tends to happen from time to time. Feels like your heads just no longer capable of absorbing another story until you heave your unsocial butt out and go smell the roses. Never lasts too long though.

Chrizette | 906 comments I have been going through a slump for the last month but we are going away for the weekend which I hope will give me lots of reading opportunities and help me get trough it.

Yeah. I've experienced reading fatigue quite often, especially with the reading challenges. Normally I start reading something 'light' like Pratchett instead of the very intricately plotted sci-fi/fantasy epics. If that doesn't help I skip reading for a couple of days.

Lauren Smith I think I might have been on the way to being over-read but then I was 'saved' by being slightly overworked instead :)

Although, I have to say I was actually really enjoying the reading binge I was on for the challenges. If reading isn't enjoyable I'd rather just take a break; it'd be silly to slog through it for challenge points.

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments There are times when I tend to over-read, this used to happen when I frequented the library and came back with 7 books. Now I try to limit the books I get from the library to 2 or 3 at the most. I think its good to give yourself a break, but its difficult with challenges thats why I dont enter too many, because the reading doesnt become something I enjoy anymore but more about winning points. I dont ever want my reading books to be so mundane. A little chalenge here and there is fine, so is a break. :-)

I'm going through a reading slump atm, for the life of me nothing I do makes me want to read anything :(

Any ideas on how to get over the slump?

message 8: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Simple answer lu: dont. If u dont want to read at the moment then why force yourself. I havent read anythin for awhile jus reading very slowly world without end,im finding other things ti do and i am enjoying that. You will probably find that in a few weeks or so you will want to read again, but for now maybe do something else. Reading should be something u want to di, not feel forced to do. :-)

Don't feel guilty. It may just be your mind wanting some space to process everything you have thrown at it recently. Do something different and give it a rest. Some form of exercise, smelling the roses or doing something creative will give your mind something else to do in the meantime. Go clean a cupboard if you feel guilty!

Hehe I'm getting my pet bunny Wednesday so I have been preparing for him. Just washed his cage (the thing is so big I can fit in it comfortably) and going to clean his room now (he gets a whole room to himself lol).

So yea just gonna keep busy with other stuff :)

I just can confirm what the others have said.
I too get "tired" or reading. Usually it happens once a year and it can get really bad. I just have to stop reading for a while. Sometimes I don't read for a couple of weeks. But then when I start reading again I read like I never read before and go through books like there is no tomorrow. So enjoy Mark and Wednesday and everything out there and don't pick up a book for at least a couple of days. If you do this you are going to miss reading and before you know it you will want to read again. If not your slump will only last longer.

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Ooh, a bunny! So sweet. :)
Your brain needs a rest, Lu. Don't worry that you won't be able to get back to reading if you stop for a while. You are a book lover, and that addiction is hard to shake.

Lauren Smith You have to post pictures of your rabbit!

Absolutely. We want to see the newest member of our growing pet family. We should have a gallery were we can post pictures of all our darlings.

Chrizette | 906 comments That gallery would be wonderful - I am a mom to two little jack russells :)

You could try audio books...
They work for some, and not for others.
If I go into a major reading slump, I like to then listen to the story (so long as the narrator isn't boring or puts me to sleep).

Best Solution then - find your favorite TV series...
And VEG out as often as possible!! ;D
