The Next Best Book Club discussion

I signed up the other day and I love this group! I'm having a lot of fun with GR, every few days adding a few books as I remember I've read them in the past. It's fun to notice which books were important enough to jog your memory. But tonight I added the wrong book to my "currently reading" list (from a search list--by mistake got the book ABOVE the one I am currently reading). And I know it's probably freakishly easy, but I can't figure out how to delete it. I thought it might feel more friendly and fun to have an answer from one of y'all, at the risk of displaying my ignorance! Thanks for your help, Sherri

Oh wait! Never mind...I just figured it out. I didn't see the "edit" box because I was in the book view that just shows you the covers--ooh, pretty covers. ;-) I switched the view and deleted the book. So, I guess I'll continue the thread with a question--what book should I add to my TBR list next?

Hi Sherri. We dont really have too many books in common so I wont recommend anything yet... however, we are currently voting for a group read in the general folder, if you are interested, check the nominees out and see if there are any you want to cast a vote for.

Welcome, Sherri! Be careful asking a bunch of avid readers what to read next. ;) There may be a deluge of ideas coming your way. :)

Welcome Sherri. Since you started the thread, I have a question that is less than intelligent. If I add a book to my "to-read" list, but I really want it to go to a sublist, does it HAVE to be on both? Because I find that to be quite a hassle!

Welcome Sherri with an i...:)I see that you have Snow Flower on your TBR shelf.I really enjoyed it and there are many of us that would say it was a wonderful book.

Jeremy, the best way to explain it is that the read/to-read/currently-reading shelves are all-encompassing. All of your books are listed on one of those three.

Then they can be assigned sub-shelves as you like. Personally, I'm lazy and easily confused so keep all of my to-reads only on that shelf until I actually read them, then they get marked read and shelved appropriately.

hehe. That makes sense with the read shelves. I have just made the mistake of starting sub shelves for to-reads.

Jeremy I do have a subgroup of To-Reads too, I have the regular plain to-read which are the ones on my physical to-read shelf at home and the to-read/wish list here, which are the ones I need to buy ;o)

I do that as well Lorena,one group is my wishlist and the TR group is comprised of the books I own.

Hey Lorena - I think in the long run, if posting ever were to slow down, I will make a shelf with all the unread books on my real shelf. But posting is much more fun. I did do a quick count on my bookshelf this morning, though. I had just over 100 not read. That counted non-fiction I intended to read but did not count Nora Roberts, Dr.Phil or any other books which I may never pull off the shelf for the purpose of reading.

Christine, you were right when you said my TBR list would grow quickly...it's already too long for me to complete soon. But it's great to have an instant shopping list when I head to Amazon or the bookstore!

I entered the group yesterday and to be honest if your TBR list will not double within two days you either in the wrong group or you didn't read enough postings :-)

LOL Ken you know ...I believe it's at Sharper Image ( yes I am a Sharper Image HO) they have this mini Vacumn that actually catches the bug w/o hurting it so you can release it outside. I thought about getting one but Patrick wants them DEAD. The Deader the Better.

You should never come to Hawaii then Lori ...because of the sugar cane fields we have Cane Spiders....they can't bite or anything but the are agressive and will run straight at ya. Oh and did I mention that their body alone can be as big as a man's fist, hairy like a taranchula(sp). I had one that lived in my car for a bit ....it was fun ( yeah no sooo much) to be at a red light and see him scuttle across the rear window.

I think I need to throw up again.
I might be borderline Spiderphobic. If I see one on the wall or the couch or wherever, I feel sick . And if there is no one to kill it, and I try to kill it, and miss it (cause those little fuckers can MOVE), I will freak out until it is found and killed... cause then it can be anywhere, at anytime, even ON ME....

I'd take a spider any day over a damn scorpion in my house. When I hear my husband's family in Arizona talk about the scorpions they get in their house, I have nightmares!

Thanks, ScottK, for single-handedly ruining the perfect image I had in my mind of the ONE state that I wanted to vacation in where everything would be pretty with pineapples and coconuts and blue-green water and black sand.

Now all I can picture is Spam, spiders and scorpions.

I have such a huge fear of spiders (not that I'm so fond of scorps, mind you but they don't visit PA much) that I had to sleep on my mom's couch one night because I saw a spider that I swear was as big as my big toe and I was too paralyzed to kill it. I had to run out the back door with nothing but the clothes on my back.

I'll have to sleep with my light on and one eye open now.

ok, I am sorry there are no spiders here it's a myth that the locals brought up to keep the tourists away. :) But don't blame me if you really BELIEVE it's a myth and you come here and you run itno a cane spider....I'm just sayin'

April, thank god im not the only one with a crippling fear. My kids caught it too... My hubby is soo pissed at me over it. Oh well. He doesnt have to like it, just so long as he kills them!!

The ones in FLorida when I lived there were none to nice looking either. They were HUGE and HAIRY and ugh... Im about to throw up again. Oh.. yuck!

Scott, I once fell asleep in a hammock on the big island and woke up with a hissing cockroach on my chest. I have never screamed as loud as that, nor lost as much masculine credibility. I'm sorry but creepy crawlie's on me while I'm asleep is just not kosher.

Charity, we've been in Arizona for nearly three years now and I have yet to see a scorpion. I did capture a tarantula a few weeks ago. He's now in a terrarium and we are debating about naming him Gogol, Jackson or Jezebel.

NO ( says no while nodding head yes ) of course Texas has no spiders. But they do have Assmonkies oh wait he is in D.C. right now ...so yeah Texas is safe.

Scott, Texas is never safe. It is perpetually disappointing and frightening (sorry, Jesse). My parents keep talking about moving there and I keep telling them that if they do they can count on me never visiting again. Some oaths are not lightly broken. Plus, their beer sucks.

When i was working as a wedding photographer years ago, the guy i was assisting was talking to me, and as he was talking a friggen daddy longlegs crawled up his sleeve and onto his neck.. I just about hurled right then and there. He wasnt the least bit phased, but i was searching high and low all nite, and kept feeling that 'buggy' feeling the rest of the night....

Yeah the hissing Cock roaches are nasty , they even give me the Heeby jeebies. As for Texas I lived outside of Houston for a bit in an area called Cypress Fairbanks area ,I hated it with the passion of a thousand suns. I believe its because I was a mo'ling at the time and knew of no other mo'lings to hang out with ( yeah right like we would just been hangin out) anyway.....Happiness really was Texas in the rear view mirror for me , even though I was not driving. I'm feeling pretty good about living in Ohio right about now. Although, I am getting rather sick of sitting outside at night and having bats buzzing our house.

Charity, that's my thought too but K@ wants to go with a J name. I figure she got to name the dog and fish, so I get to name creatures with more than 4 legs. Also, bats are great as long as you're up to date on your rabies vaccination.

My husband makes me crazy with the bats since he stands on our deck clapping just to rile them all up.

Back when I was a little and liked pick up bugs and mice and lil creatures, we found a baby bat in the middle of the road I brought it home and put it in a box ...when my Mom found that box ......I almost met the sweet Lord Jesus.

Did you know that the average human swallows 9 spiders in their lifetimes? And its usually when you are asleep?

Right there is a benefit of living in the South-West. You will never swallow a spider and not know about it- they're far too large.
