Tina made the suggestion of a thread that members can add certain books along various themes to.

Members please feel free to post books in various themes that you know of. Please note if the book is erotic. When I am able, I will add the books to each category post.

If you are looking for a type of interracial romance not listed, please feel free to make a suggestion request here. I will add the category when I can.

Please note, the interracial combination is not specified. If you want to know, feel free to ask or check the interracial combination threads.

This is a work in progress. If you don't see something listed (make a suggestion), or I have not added a suggestion to the various categories, have patience with me. Thanks! I reserve the right to delete suggestion and comment posts if more room is needed for additional categories. I will try not to, but I may have to do so.

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) I'm not sure where to suggest this one should go. I haven't written a review yet, but it was good. The hero is part Arab/part Creole. It could be atypical interracial combo.

Maybe erotic contemporary: Sweet Revenge, Nadia Aidan

Hi Delaney. I read that one. Was he part Black? I probably won't add it since some of the members get annoyed when those are listed as IR if the hero is part Black.

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) Okay, no prob. I didn't think about him being part black. His father was described as Louisiana Creole, so I guess so. In the novel, he had Arab features and was described as having straight hair.

I'm just trying to avoid being brained by a shovel here by angry IR fans who got cheated! :)

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) LOL. Understood. I wouldn't want you to get hurt for false advertising.

Delaney, by any chance in the book, does it states which parent was Arab and which was Creole? If so, for the parent that's Creole. How do they describe that person?

message 38: by Delaney (new)

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) His mother is Arab (Kuwaiti) and his father is Creole. I had to scan the book real quick to see if there was a description of his father b/c I couldn't remember one, but all it said was that he was from a wealthy Creole family in Louisiana.

Here's one description of the hero:

Any woman could appreciate his smooth sun-kissed skin, the high cheekbones and chiseled jaw line that gave him the look of a Persian prince from some adolescent fairy tale. In striking contrast to his light olive complexion, his eyes were black as midnight…His best feature, though, was undoubtedly his hair. Ryan's jet black hair was fastened now at the nape of his neck. In high school, he'd always worn it long. Teresa knew his parents had hated it but she had
always thought it was incredibly sexy. She also knew that it was silky to the touch…

Having a smidge of black in your background doesn't make you black, but I understand if members of the group prefer not to include it.

Except...what about non-black members of the group? I assume there are some? For them, it would be an interracial regardless.

Thanks Delaney. Having black blood makes you part black.

Can I have the name of the book?

message 40: by Delaney (new)

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) Arch, I don't think you read explicit books...? If so, I want to warn you about this one. Here's the info: Sweet Revenge, by Nadia Aidan

Thanks Delaney. I had a feeling it was an explicit book, but wasn't sure. No, I don't read explicit books. I wanted to know the name of the book and the author. I have searched her online. But there's no picture of her.

I've read her bio, she's not from Louisiana. Well, the bio didn't say she was from Louisiana. It states where she lives now. I've checked out her Goodreads page as well.

A lot of authors who write stories about Louisiana character(s)aren't from Louisiana.

Delaney if you don't me asking. By reading the book, does it appear that the hero is black or because the word Creole is used, it's connected to black?

A lot of people in Louisiana looks 100% white and they aren't. Think of Imitation of Life. The biracial girl passed for white and she told people she was white.

I wonder if Mrs. Aidan is saying the hero is half black or half white. Hopefully I'll find out.

Davina,

Remove your quote. We ask that no one quote another member on the group. See Group Rules.

Use the @ and member's name to address what they have said.

Example: @ Jane Doe. Thank you for that wonderful recommendation.

If I come back and the quote is still there, I will delete the post.

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 1216 comments Kind of going off topic a little. Here's what I find rather funny about the whole Arab sheikh hero. Romance readers swoon over these types, but the irritating fact that most of these heroes are probably Muslim doesn't ring a bell. Granted, religion doesn't come into play since the sheikh hero is too busy spending his vast wealth and getting busy with the heroine, but one would think considering how scared folks are of Muslims these days, that the sheikh hero wouldn't be popular anymore. Oh well, people are funny that way.

Every Muslim shouldn't be looked upon as being the same. A bad Muslim can't speak for a good Muslim.

We have bad black people. I wouldn't want people to see me as being bad, because I'm black.

Davina D. | 796 comments I don't want to derail the thread and get into a discussion about Arabic heroes who also happen to be Muslim, but I'll quickly say good point, Vixenne. I've always wondered about the same dynamic. It does make good food for thought doesn't it? For me personally it's not the fact that the hero is likely to be Muslim that kind of gets under my skin, but how said religion is likely to motivate his view on women and relationships (particularly if he has had no outside influences to his world). In addition to the fact that I'm not generally attracted to Middle Eastern men, this does kind of get in the way of the escapist effect I seek from romantic fiction.

message 46: by Delaney (new)

Delaney Diamond (delaney_diamond) Arch, the hero was never portrayed as black, even though his father was mixed race. He was half Arab, and the author consistently described his Arab features throughout the book.

Davina, you are still quoting Delaney. We don't want anything a previous member have said be stated in another's member's comment. So, please remove what you have in " that Delaney had said. I'll check back to see if it has been removed. If not, I'm deleting the comment.

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 1216 comments @Arch: I agree with you that not all Arabic/Muslim people are bad. I just find it funny that there's this preponderance of Arabic sheikh heroes in romances, but yet there's also this hating on Muslims thing happening. It's like it's okay to fantasize about some insanely rich and handsome sheik guy, but just don't bring one home, LOL.

@Delaney: Truth to tell, I've never been a fan of the sheikh hero. It's always felt like a stereotype to me, like the math-smart Asian guy, or the black male character who dances or plays sports well. The one or two books I've read in that vein, the hero is always some sexual dynamo who's built like a stallion and can please any woman pretty much by just looking at them. They also tended to be sexist pigs whom by the end of the novel somehow develop a less-sexist view of the heroine. Whatever.

Vixenne, I will use my character Cop as an example. Some women don't find bald men attractive and that's okay. My hero is bald, because that's how I wanted him to be. He's attractive to me. Authors that writes about Sheikhs probably find these men attractive and that's why they write about them.

Some readers like reading about Sheikh heroes and who to say that a single woman that find Shiekhs attractive wouldn't bring one home to meet her parents?
