MaryK | 168 comments Is there a way to search the reviews of group members?

Say I'm interested in XYZ audio and want to see if any of the Speaking of Audiobooks members have reviewed it - because I'm specifically looking for an audio review - is there a way to do that?

♡Karlyn P♡ (karlynp) | 34 comments I don't think so, but you can look at their shelf to see if they have a folder for audiobooks only. I have one titled 'audiobooks' with over 200 audiobooks rated, and some have reviews.

Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) I know that TSTBren and I both have shelves that are audiobook only. Our print shelves are separate. Does anyone else have an audio only shelf or separate folder as KarLynP does? I've been wondering about this.

Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) Melinda's shelf is "audiobook only" as well.

MaryK | 168 comments My whole account is audio only. :)

I've figured out how to search a particular member's shelf, but I was thinking more along the lines of "I remember seeing a review in the update feed but can't remember which member it was." I don't see a way to search the group as a whole.

Kelli (oddiophile) I also have a shelf that is labeled "audiobooks" to help differentiate from my e-books.

Mary (maryvirgee) | 3 comments I don't have a shelf but audio is the only way I get to read. I guess I should create a shelf that says audio only so others could identify this.

Mary (maryvirgee) | 3 comments Not all authors have audiobooks...

I wish I could only see the reviews on just audio. Currently, I just type in a title and filter through the new releases. I get so irritated when I go through all that trouble only to find out it isn't offered in audio. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Carrie | 296 comments I have a shelf labeled "audio" but it doesn't have that many books listed. ;-) I enjoy audiobooks, but don't get to use that format much. I can listen to audiobooks when I walk or do chores around the house, but otherwise I'm either interacting with my children, doing stuff on the computer, or trying to grade papers for the two classes I teach. I usually can't listen in the car because I'm driving people hither and yon. I can't even seem to listen when I take my dog tot he dog park because people talk to me and I feel rude if I don't interact.

When do you all get a chance to listen?

message 11: by Diane (new)

Diane Mason | 129 comments I do 99% of my listening at work. :)

message 12: by Kelli (new)

Kelli (oddiophile) I usually listen when exercising, working outside and before falling asleep (and unfortunately, that sometimes leads to listening while sleeping :D ). I only re-listen to audiobooks while working so if I am distracted by a particularly tricky problem and can't pay close attention I don't miss anything.

Leslie (lgillian) | 12 comments I listen while I wait. Usually at the doctors office and while waiting in line to check out of the grocery store.

MaryK | 168 comments While commuting! On days when I have work + school, I can spend up to three hours in the car. Listening to books keeps it from feeling like a total waste of time. And it keeps the stress and roadrage at bay.

Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) I listen while I drive, do housework, cook, or spend time in my artsy room creating something. There is a Speaking of Audiobooks column and discussion titled "Why Do We Listen" that may interest you.

Carrie | 296 comments Thanks, everyone. I love listening to audiobooks, although I can get impatient because I would read the book faster than I can listen to it, and sometimes I just want to know what happens next.

Part of my problem getting through audiobooks is not having anything to do while I listen. I listen while doing housework, yard work, etc. as I said before, but when I want to unwind I'm usually not doing those things, so I sit down and pick up a book. If I'm listening to an audio book sometimes I don't know what to do with myself. Reading is basically my hobby. I don't do crafts or scrapbooking or anything like that.

Also, I home school my children, so even though they are older now (only schooling a 13 yr old and a 16 yr old), I'm rarely alone at home. Plus my two college age sons are living at home and going to school. That means there's someone talking to me every few minutes, someone practicing the piano, or I have half a dozen teens in the house blasting away at each other playing video games. Not much quiet going on around here. ;-)

But I admit my husband loves it when I get hooked on an audiobook. His shirts get ironed, all the laundry gets folded, the bathrooms get cleaned, dinner gets made....anything to keep listening. In fact, it's a wonder he doesn't buy me more, 'cause the opposite happens when I actually sit down to read a book...nothing gets done.

That's one of the reasons I prefer to listen to books I've already read! If the audio's really good, I'll likely pull out the book when I get home and finish it that way. Provided I have the book, of course.
