Becky (BeckyB84) | 8 comments I am new to goodreads, it was recommended by a co-worker so I am still figuring my way around =) I am so excited to see a group for Jodi. I am a huge fan of her writing! Hope to hear some great opinions from everyone and any recomendations for other books by her or similar books like her.

Becky (BeckyB84) | 8 comments Her style is different and I like it, lots of controversial issues that most people don't write about. I usually read her book then read a "fun summer" book and switch back to her =) My first book for her was Nineteen Minutes and I could not put it down! I then had to get more from her!! I have read so far The Tenth Circle, The Pact, Change of Heart (her new one), My Sister's Keeper (a shicking ending and it made me cry!), Salem Falls (a good one too!), and Picture Perfect. I have read any others but I will def be getting more =) I have about 15 other books in line that I need to read =)

Sheryl (shashee71) | 18 comments Hi Becky and Kimberly!

I am a big JP fan as well!! My first two were The Pact and Nineteen Minutes and have been hooked ever since! I absolutely love her style of writing and how she almost has you siding and sympathising with the "bad guys" in each book! I still have many to read... the ones that I have read, in addition to those two are Salem Falls, Harvesting the Heart, Plain Truth, The Tenth Circle and My Sister's Keeper. Not that I can't read her's back to back, I just ran out and I have sooo many others on my shelf that I need to read before I buy another one!!

I can't wait to start on another of hers though. I am reading an Anita Shreve book right now called Sea Glass. It's really good.

Have a nice weekend.
Sheryl

Brittany (missbrittany) Hi ladies. Welcome to the Picoultaholics club! My Sister's Keeper was my gateway JP novel, and since, I have read The Pact, The Tenth Circle, Plain Truth, Harvesting the Heart, and Change of Heart. My next will be Nineteen Minutes.

Sheryl- Would you say Shreve is very similar? I got 2 of her books at a library sale for 25 cents each, but have yet to read them- The Pilot's Wife, and The Last Time They Met.

Becky (BeckyB84) | 8 comments Hi Sheryl,
I know what you mean about reading so many books! i have 15 more to read myself! =) I do however like to take a break, as I mentioned earlier, from her books =) I get jokes at work about all the "fluff" that I read LOL I like Barbara Delinsky too, she is kind of like Jodi in her writing but she doesn't get as deep as Jodi does. If you have time you should pick up a couple of her books too =) I have read Family Tree and The Secret Between Us.

Have a great weekend!!
Becky

Becky (BeckyB84) | 8 comments Hi Brittnay,
What did you think about The Tenth Circle and The Pact? I have seen and heard mixed reviews on both. I, myself, liked both of them very much!! I missed the Lifetime movie of The Tenth Circle which was a bummer!

Have a great weekend!
Becky

message 7: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (missbrittany) Becky- Of the 6 I have read, the two you mentioned were my least favorites. I gave them each only 3 stars.

I think the reason I could not get into them is because I read them in my very early 20s, not far from the teens' ages in the books, and felt that the younger characters were not so real. They behaved and thought in ways I never did as a teen, and I felt distanced from them.

That's not to say I have experienced anything any of Picoult's characters do in her works, but the teen drama in these two does not do much to interest me. However, MSK and PT were my 2 favorites.

message 8: by Becky (new)

Becky (BeckyB84) | 8 comments That's true, I can see where you are coming from on that about the books.

message 9: by Anna (new)

Anna | 81 comments My Sister's Keeper is my favorite. I also really liked Second Glance. I liked these books for very different reasons. I like My Sister's Keeper as it provided the perspectives of the different characters and I liked the Second Glance from the historical perspective.

I really disliked The Tenth Circle--I didn;t like any of the characters in the book and pray that my daughter (she is 11) doesn't emulate the teen girls depicted!

I just read Mercy--it was food for thought as I have been married 20+ years and totally agree that a marriage is never 50/50!

message 10: by Becky (new)

Becky (BeckyB84) | 8 comments Anna, I haven't read Second Glance or Mercy..I think those will be my next Jodi books! =)

message 11: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Twomey (twomshan) | 11 comments HI Brittany

I have been reading Shreve since i finished all of Jodi's books. I have read "Where or When" "Body Surfing" "Light on Snow", "WEdding in December".... I liked them all... She does remind me of jodi... but I like Jodi better (hee hee hee!!!).. I still want to read Pilot's Wife--I hear that one is really good!

message 12: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (missbrittany) Shannon- Thanks for the info. I remember seeing Wedding in December everywhere when it came out, but I have yet to read it. I hear mixed reviews about Pilot's Wife, so I may start with another to test her out.

Hi! I'm Rosemay
I love JP and haven't been able to put her books down except at meals and on the way to the bathroom. i have only read 3 of her books, but i guess that's good for only being in middle school! my dad thought there was too much drama, but my step mom and i love them.

message 14: by Tabitha (new)

Tabitha B. | 1 comments Hi everyone- I am such a fan of Joi's wonderful work. Her books are always interesting and keep me reading through to the end. I am excited to see that some of her work is being turned into movies...I am curious to see how the adapataion is compared to the books.

I'm glad to be here with other fans!
Go Jodi!!!

message 15: by Roshini (new)

Roshini Hi everyone, I'm new to this group. Haven't read that many of Jodi's books; just finished Nineteen Minutes over the weekend, I just couldn't put it down!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello everyone....I am new here also and also a new reader of JP...my first read was My Sister's Keeper and it was an awesome book with such a sad ending....then I read the Pact, Plain truth and I just finished Nineteen Minutes. Believe me I was almost wishing that defense attorney could get the kid off. I so hate bullying but what can you do to stop it....any way I need a break now from JP so I am reading A Boy Called It....don't know if I can finish it

message 17: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Green | 1 comments I too love Jodi's books.. I have read almost all of them (waiting for the new one to come out in soft).. My eyes kinda popped when I saw that you were going to read Pelzer next... It's an incredible read, and very depressing.. Maybe do a "light read" when you're done.. you're gonna need it!! Good luck!

message 18: by Julie (new)

Julie (scrapsofhistory) Hello all- I have only read a couple of Jodi's books but I have gotten through them in just a couple of days. That's a record for me. I just get wrapped up in the characters.

message 19: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (roxy_nj) Hi, all.
I'm a fan of JP books. Ok, totally obvious statement since I joined this group.

My first JP book was My Sister's Keeper. Wow. Loved the format of the book, the story that makes you want to talk somebody, shocking enindg. Great book. Since then I have read Keeping Faith, Salem Falls and Vanashing Acts.

I'm currently reading The Tenth Circle. It has a great twist with the writting (I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it) and I am greatful that the jacket cover doesn't seem to give everything away.

message 20: by Jill (new)

Jill (lovelifesmile) | 2 comments Hi Roxy -

You should really read Nineteen Minutes....I loved that one! Jodi is just an amazing author...her books never disappoint!

Jill in CA Nineteen Minutes: A novel by Jodi Picoult

message 21: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (roxy_nj) Isn't that the Colembine (sp)-type story? I'm not sure if I could read that. I read My Sister's Keeper when I was prego and that was hard. Did love the book though.

message 22: by Dara (new)

Dara | 145 comments I rec'd an email/newsletter/update thingy from Lisa Jackson today and she had a blurb on there for Jodi Picoult fans. She recommends reading One September Morning by Rosalind Noonan. It is about a "young woman's journey to find out what truly happened to her husband, an soldier in the war in Iraq." She said you can check out more about the book at www.rosalindnoonan.com

Thought I would share this! Happy Holidays

Dara

You should read them all! lol...I have read all of the ones you have read and Nineteen Minutes and several others. I think you should read it next! But Handle with Care, Change of Heart...heck they are all awesome! lol

message 25: by Jade (new)

Jade Hi, I'm new to this group. So far, I've only read My Sisters Keeper, and A Change of Heart, but am waiting impatiently to read the rest of her books, but the problem is, we don't have a very good library where I'm at.

message 26: by Monica (new)

Monica (monicajoy) | 4 comments Jade, you should most definitely check out ebay! You can buy new books on the site for less than ten bucks with shipping. I just discovered it and fell in love with the idea. I have three of her books on the way!! =)

message 27: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 3 comments Jade, most libraries have what they call an interlibrary loan. If your library offers this, they can request a book from another library, sometimes state-wide and they send it to your local library for you to borrow. The length of time you can borrow it is usually longer, but you cannot renew the loan.

message 28: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee (ashlee_) | 83 comments Becky & Kim, We have alot in common! I couldn't put 19 minutes down. I think Salem Falls, The Pact, and The Plain truth were my favorite. I've also read Perfect Match and Handle with care. I didn't really care for The Perfect Match though, the main character Nina really annoyed me.

Have you read testimony by Anita Shreve? Maybe because I teach Middle School , I found this book heart-breaking and too accurate. Of JP's book Ilike MSK and Second Glance. That one had all my favorite elements in it.
