I really enjoyed Shadow of the Wind when it came out. (And I really enjoyed Angel's Game, too.)

I loved The Children's Book by A. S. Byatt. I have always liked her writing, and I enjoy a long book with many complex characters.

The Breaking of Eggs: A Novel

1) Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder

and
2) The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins

by: Louis Sachar
The Thin Executioner
by: Darren Shan

I would have to say my favorite was Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie.

Just an all around excellent fantasy novel. Love, laughs, sorrow, blood, guts and glory!

The Shining
I couldn't stop reading it, even though I was scared to death!
It's rare for me to award a 5-star rating to a book. Of all the books on my Goodreads list, only two have gotten 5 stars. Maybe I should lower my standards. I'll just say that of all the books I read this year, the one I enjoyed the most was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But I'm not giving it 5 stars.

Definitely the Hunger Games! Snuck it in as my last book of 2010 but loved it more than any others this year. This series was quite refreshing as it had been a long time since I read a book that truly caught my attention in the way this book did. I think I read the entire trilogy in 4 days and usually I'm not that avid a reader. I highly reccomend it to anyone that enjoys heart wrenching stories about dystopian societies.

my highlight was:

but i do give 5 stars quite often, especially if the book has some real creative / interesting ideas that i would not have expected.

1) Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder
That book is one of my top 10 of all time!!!!

I didn't read too much last year, that wasn't a series, but yeah this would be it. I had read Ham On Rye at the end of 2009 and got another Bukowski book, and I guess the best thing about it for me, was I didn't know it would be Henry Chinaski again. That was fantastic, probably my favorite character in a book, and then come to find out actually reading about is books, Chinaski is a character in all of his novels. Wonderful. But yeah, that would be my pick for 2010.
