I know we are all looking forward to determining our 2010 favorites to share with the group and to see what the others have selected for their own top (and bottom) books.
Last year Cheryl was kind to compile the top lists for us again in early January, and she had us post them here under the Monthly Reads folder. It probably makes it much easier for Cheryl to compile them if we keep them in one thread. :)
In years past we have attempted to keep the Top Lists count to ten in each category! ;) These have been the Categories in the past - any new ones to add?
Top MT
Top Series
Top NON MT
Top New to Me Authors

Cheryl | 547 comments Yes, let me know if you have other suggestions for lists. I will start them in early January after the December reads are posted.

Dan in AZ | 2960 comments I like the "Worst Book I Read" category. Saves others from wasting time on bad books.

On which list did you place yourself?
On which list would your librarian place you?

Shomeret | 1490 comments This library student thinks that Carol and Ann are both really nice. Of course it helps that they were excellent users in two of my Web Usabiliy projects this past semester.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9485 comments It never hurts to suck up to a librarian! You build up good library karma, which I of course desperately need.

Shomeret | 1490 comments I only have five A rated M/Ts:

1.Eye of the Whale: A Novelby Douglas Carlton Abrams (eco-thriller)

2.The Coroner's Lunchby Colin Cotterill (Southeast Asian mystery)

3.Messenger of Truthby Jacqueline Winspear (historical mystery)

4.Assassins' Rageby Charles O'Brien (historical mystery)

5. Arctic Chillby Arnaldr Indridason (Icelandic mystery)

I can't say that I have any top series this year. There wasn't an M/T series where I read more than one book that impressed me.

Top Non-M/Ts

1.Who Fears Deathby Nnedi Okorafor (African post-apocalyptic fantasy)

2. Naamah's Curseby Jacqueline Carey (alternate history fantasy)

3.The Gaslight Dogsby Karin Lowachee (fantasy)

4.Death Blowsby D.D. Barant (alternate universe urban fantasy)

5.Marcelo In The Real Worldby Francisco X. Stork (YA contemporary fiction)

6.Woundedby Amy Lane (urban fantasy)

7.Sunflowersby Sheramy Budrick (historical fiction)

Most Disappointing: Wife of the Gods: A Novelby Kwei Quartey (African mystery)

Cheryl | 547 comments Shomeret, I printed this.

The rest of you, please do not submit your lists until I have a chance to get organized. I hope to start Wednesday, January 5, and I will have different topics for different lists.

Brakedrum | 1203 comments This list is from Bookpage, the magazine:
Readers' Choice: Best Books of 2010Web exclusive
Feature by Editors of BookPage

In November we asked readers to tell us their favorite book of 2010. More than 2,600 readers responded, and the results span genres from literary thriller to YA phenomenon to historical epic. Several of these books overlap with our own Best of 2010 picks. The results are in order of votes.

1. The Passage by Justin Cronin
2. Room by Emma Donoghue
3. Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman
4. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson
5. Fall of Giants by Ken Follett
6. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
7. Freedom by Jonathan Franzen
8. Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson
9. The Invisible Bridge by Julie Orringer
10. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
11. Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny
12. Still Missing by Chevy Stevens
13. Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
14. 61 Hours by Lee Child
15. A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron
16. Ape House by Sara Gruen
17. Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin
18. House Rules by Jodi Picoult
19. Faithful Place by Tana French
20. Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King

Note: Although our Readers' Choice "Best of 2010" picks were limited to books published in 2010, several older books received a significant number of votes. The Help by Kathryn Stockett, Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay remain especially popular with BookPage readers.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments Thanks for sharing Lorraine!
I see several that I loved too and several I plan to read. I would not have included #16 Ape House!
I read 1, 3, 4, 14 and 16 and am currently reading 6 and 20 and will most likely read 2 and 19. Has anyone here decided to read #7, Freedom?

Melodie (melodieco) | 3679 comments I read 61 HOURS and FULL DARK, NO STARS. Neither would make a "best of" list for me, tho FDNS was a good read. I have 4, 6, 10 & 11 in The Pile!

Donnajo | 4354 comments Well I posted my lists. Just don't have enough top m/t in 2010. I hope this this year because I already know I'm starting with more mysteries because I'm doing 3 challenges for 2010. Well 2 for Jan-Mar and one though june. Then I'll be adding. It's a good way of getting though the books on my bookcase. I've only bought 2 new books this year so far if you don't count the free ones I get on my nook.
