Rev Gary | 7 comments Hi,
My name is Gary. I am a Lutheran Pastor.I read lots, not only for work but all kinds of lit. I realized that I have missed a lot by not reading the classics.I just finished Robinson Crusoe. I was surprised, It was not what I thought it would be.Growing up I was forced to do the school reading of classics. Now I want to read for enjoyment and experience them.

message 357: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments @Namida: Haha, I agree. What anime/animes are you currently watching?

@Darnell: Ay! Don't misinterpret me, what I mean is that I only have less than 100 books in my collection and I still have like 900 books to collect. So sad that I have to effort a lot. Haha.

message 358: by Jessi (new)

Jessi | 52 comments Hi everyone,
I'm Jessi & I'm 29. I'm from California but currently live in Nevada. Very excited to be a part of this group. Ever since I was little my parents encouraged my reading but my daddy always insisted I read classic books as well as whatever I wanted. Well I fell in love with classic books because of it & haven't stopped reading them to this day. I'm currently reading Arabian Nights (As well as other non classics) Look forward to chatting with you all.
Jessi

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments He Jessi, welcome to the group! I also reading the Arabian Nights and I like it. I can't feel the presence of the Arabian in the story maybe because of the translation or maybe I'm too tired to walk under the sun. Haha. I feel more likely sitting in France while reading it. How about you?

Rollie, thanks a lot for accepting my group invitation although I have to force you to join. Haha. Not because I love classics but because you are talking about classics lately with the other members online. Wag mo tong ipagkalat sa thread ang grupong ito, ha. ---- Lady Danielle, don't ask him bout e-books, he don't like them. Haha.

Hi Zhana, welcome to the group and feel free to comment anything bout classics or ask questions about it. A lot of readers here know a lot about classics so anytime people will suggest and comment like hell. Haha.

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Hi Maliha, welcome to the group and it seems that you are confused between Little Women and Wuthering Heights. Well for me, I love Little Women and it will always be on the top of my favorite list. Why not try it before Wuthering Heights, well there is no rule where to start right? Hehe.

Hello Miledy, welcome to the group and I suggest you join the group read. It will always be the best start to discuss and read classics with friends. Hehe.

Sam (lit-brit) Hello....my name is Samantha and I am from Ellesmere Port, near Chester in the northwest of England, however for the last 17 years I have been living in the USA and currently reside in Denver, CO.

So, I LOVE to read and have started to read some classics along the way and have realised why they are the classics!!!

message 383: by 1verylovedmom (new)

1verylovedmom | 3 comments Hi! I am Laurie. I am new to this group and to goodreads. I am looking forward to reading classics. I can't wait to start reading "To Kill a Mockingbird". It will be delivered this afternoon, just in time for the long weekend. I look forward to getting to know you all and the classics. :0)

message 384: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Hi Monique, welcome to the group! I'm a Filipino too and currently staying in Malabon City. Mabuhay and have fun reading and discussing classics with us. Hey, don't forget to join the group read for the month of September and October. Hehe.

@Rollie: Don't worry, I'll make sure that you'll read all the group reads of the group. Kidding, I have some e-book here and I know you don't read e-book. I suggest that you buy Barnes and Noble classics, it is cheaper and better. I don't know if they have better translation compared to any publishers, haha.

Hi Ankita, welcome to the group and feel free to join the group read for this month!

message 385: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Hi Sam, welcome to the group and I'm glad you enjoy reading classics. I read some classics that I hate to admit that I did not like them, for some issues. Haha. Have fun and sweet reads.

Hi Laurie, welcome to the group and to Goodreads itself! I love To Kill a Mockingbird and I'm sure you'll love it too, I can't wait to hear your opinions and comments about the book. Feel free to ask any questions regarding Goodreads. Hehe.

message 386: by Maleeha (new)

Maleeha Baluch (maleeha1992) | 4 comments whats the hobbit about? i want to read to kill a mocking bird too =D =p il start in a few days =D

message 387: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments @Maliha: The prequel of The Lord of the Rings. If you like the series or the movie, read The Hobbit.

Details below is taken from Goodreads.

Bilbo Baggins was a hobbit who wanted to be left alone in quiet comfort. But the wizard Gandalf came along with a band of homeless dwarves. Soon Bilbo was drawn into their quest, facing evil orcs, savage wolves, giant spiders, and worse unknown dangers. Finally, it was Bilbo-alone and unaided-who had to confront the great dragon Smaug, the terror of an entire countryside . . .

message 388: by Rollie (new)

Rollie (zheick) Kwesi: Barnes and Noble classics in what? Printed copy? Hehe.

message 389: by kwesi 章英狮 (last edited Sep 02, 2011 09:05PM) (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments @Rollie: I have e-books and you can buy some of the Barnes and Noble in booksale so you don't have to spend much (I think Oxford classics are booming lately in booksale, so find yourself a time to go book hunting again.) If you want, you can buy it in the bookstores, cheaper than Penguin classics.

message 390: by Rollie (new)

Rollie (zheick) I saw some Penguin classics, actually. Are they worth reading? Haha.

message 391: by kwesi 章英狮 (last edited Sep 02, 2011 09:16PM) (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments O yeah, I saw Penguin classics lately in booksale if you want battered copies. I bought my Pride and Prejudice for 75 pesos last summer and I'm glad I saw one, even though I did not like the book. I don't know the difference, maybe the introduction and the translator. Anyway, it is up to you on how you manage to understand classics.

message 392: by Rollie (new)

Rollie (zheick) Tsk tsk. All I'd been seeing in bookstores are authors who I don't really know. That's the problem of being not a classic boy. :D Well, well, someday I'll get to know who they are and buy their books. But for now, I have to try for the best to get addicted at it. :D

message 393: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Lol, fine feel free to do so. Do you already have a copy of The Hobbit and To Kill a Mockingbird ? I wish I have the second book here, I read it last year and I love the Mockingbird and currently saturating myself with The Hobbit. Mmm, I don't know why they keep on singing. Haha.

message 394: by Rollie (last edited Sep 02, 2011 09:27PM) (new)

Rollie (zheick) The Hobbit? I saw copies of it in Booksale and probably they wouldn't still run out a copy of it. :D To Kill a Mockingbird - still a book I'm wanting to read. Unfortunately, don't have a copy of it. Maybe Monday evening will be my book hunting day. haha

message 395: by kwesi 章英狮 (last edited Sep 02, 2011 09:31PM) (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Haha, good luck. I agree, I saw lots of copies of The Hobbit in booksale and I never cared to buy one. I prefer borrowing since the day I started saving money and I want the hardbound one if my parents will permit me to do a book buying spree this coming October. I don't like to make this place crowded, lets transfer to another thread - Chit Chat - and I force you to comment first. Haha.
