We decided to make the list alphabetical, not numbered. We saw no way to compare a passion for classical music with a Radiohead opus, or pianist Jason Moran with Danger Mouse's The Grey Album. We make these lists not to exclude certain recordings, but to turn people on to music that we feel stands out the most in an unimaginably crowded field.

From the albums that I know about, yeah, I agree.

I am most familiar with Yo Yo Ma and Amy Winehouse. The rest? I mostly buy music from the 1970s and 1980s, apparently.

Is it good or bad that I don't own a single one of these albums, let alone haven't heard of almost half of the artists? Wow.

I get why some are on there, for cultural significance if not merit. I have about ten. This is kind of a useless list though. You could buy 'em all to say you had bought fifty important albums, but chances are more than a few of them would not be your cup of tea.

When I see any list with the phrase "Most Important" included in the title, I can't help but react violently think, "whatevs".

Norah Jones was from this decade? She seems so 90s.

I saw her in concert in 03 I think? And that was her first album tour.

Before you ask...it was a date night thing. However, I saw more weed smoking there than I ever did at any metal concert.
