Well done Bronwyn!

message 302: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Just finished book number 11 for this challenge. As I have so many Aussie authors on my TBR I will probably just keep going and going to work through my list. Books and those I've read are listed on message number 7. I'll list them all again when I reach number 12.

Sally906 | 87 comments Coming into this challenge a bit late but I have already read 3 few Aussie books this year by various authors. A Canterbury Crime by Brian Kavanagh, then 10 Short Stories You Must Read This Year by assorted Aussie authors, and most recently The Secret of the Lonely Isles by Joanne van Os.

I have three coming up in the next few months as I have earmarked them for the Winter Challenge, so will make the MATILDA Level (Read and review 6 books by at least 4 different Australian authors) for sure will then aim to see if I can reach TRUE BLUE Level as I am sure I am sure I will find more by the end of the year :)

Sounds good Sally! It's amazing how you easily read an Aussie author, without realizing it sometimes! I'm sure you'll have no trouble reaching TRUE BLUE by the end of the year!

message 307: by Julia (new)

Julia (julia_beck) | 6 comments Hello everyone, I feel I am well under way to achieving the TRUE BLUE level, even 'though it is quite difficult to find some Aussie authors here in Toronto, Canada. For example,I was hoping to buy "Feathers for Phoebe" for my grand-daughter but even amazon doesn't sell it.

Fantastic Julia...that is amazing! Did you try Book Depository for Feathers For Phoebe? Good luck with that :)

Booktopia has it..here's the link...

Book Depository carries it, but it is currently out of stock...

Thanks Carmel:)

Julia (julia_beck) | 6 comments Thank you Brenda; I may have to go that route but I was hoping to get it from someone in the northern hemisphere. I tried England, Canada and the US; but imagine that it is an international copyright agreement issue.

message 311: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80002 comments Mod
Maybe BD in the US might have it then?? Tho with it being OOS in the UK, I guess it'd be the same at both of them...Good luck anyway!!

Julia (julia_beck) | 6 comments Thank you Brenda. I'll keep trying!

Lesley | 328 comments Three additions to my list @ M.332,

Parrot and Olivier in America
Ten Thousand Acres : a love Story
Past the Shallows

I really liked the last book and recommend it.

Lesley | 328 comments Brenda wrote: "What did you think of Parrot and Olivier in America? I'm wondering about that one..:)"
I found it quite good, but 'longish'. There is great banter between the two characters, which I chuckled over at times. 3 stars from me.

message 319: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80002 comments Mod
Thanks Lesley...don't like trying to attempt the 'long' ones!! They cut into the time for reading shorter ones!! ;)

message 320: by Lesley (new)

Lesley | 328 comments They sure do! Probably one of the reasons I liked Past the Shallows. It's a great little story, though not too happy. Interesting setting in a small fishing community off Tasmanian east coast.

Laura Rittenhouse | 200 comments I hadn't planned to enter this challenge, no real reason. Anyway today I realised I have read and reviewed a handful of Aussie Authors already this year so I may do well even without trying - I'll certainly reach Matilda level.

To date:
The Happy Life: The Search for Contentment in the Modern World by David Malouf
The Genesis Flaw by L.A. Larkin
Guantanamo: My Journey by David Hicks
The Unknown Terrorist: A Novel by Richard Flanagan
America with Subtitles by A.P. Riemer

Brenda - ya learn summtin new every day. I've lived in Aus since 1988 but never heard anything being referred to as "Claytons" before. Which sent me straight to my search engine and Wikipedia (what an amazing resource). I now have a new idiom to add to my repertoire.

message 337: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80002 comments Mod
Hahaha!! I wondered when I put that up there whether you were old enough to remember the 'Claytons' reference!!

Glad I could be of some assistance *in adding to your repertoire* LOL

message 338: by Murray (new)

Murray Gunn (murraygunn) | 211 comments I'm struggling compared to some, but I'm on track for True Blue.

Falling into Queensland (GR author - not yet released) 3 stars
Manhood 3 stars
DEAD ish (GR author) 3 stars
technically DEAD (GR author) 3 stars
The Last Stormlord 4 stars
Odalisque 3 stars
The Prodigal Mage 2 stars
Culture Crisis: Anthropology and Politics in Aboriginal Australia 3 stars
The Witches of Eileanan 3 stars (reread)

Can I include Dragon Bones: Two Years Beneath the Skin of a Himalayan Kingdom? I read it cover to cover at least twice this year, getting it ready for print. ;) I'm not game to read it again in case some typos got through.

Laura Rittenhouse | 200 comments Brenda, I'm amazed. How many books have you read in total this year? I take it you don't exclusively read Aussies (though it's not like you'd run out of options).

Well done. You've set the bar pretty high, but I'm not losing my nerve :-)

I assume you mean they need to be a Goodreads Author, not just an author who has a profile on Goodreads and lives in Australia. (As an example of what I'm asking about, my profile says "Goodreads author profile" where Peter Carey's says simply "Author profile")

Thanks Laura, for asking Carmel that question, because I was thinking the same thing. I have read a lot of authors who aren't 'goodreads authors' just 'authors'..

Very impressive, Brenda. We're not even half way through the year. I think you need to go for Streuth! level to challenge yourself.
