erin buchanan | 188 comments Maybe this year I won't have to rush to finish. Caught up in a fantasy whirlwind these last couple of months, just can't seem to stop.

1: Archangel's Kiss - Nalini Singh
2: The Tombs of Atuan - Ursula K Le Guin

Donna | 1350 comments Why would you want to stop?

message 3: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments don't really haha, but i have a bunch of non-fantasy stuff to read sitting around the house.

message 4: by Donna (new)

Donna | 1350 comments Yes, but Archangel's Consort is out in two weeks, so why change horses now?

message 5: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments I'm not. I read the Must Love Hellhounds book with the Guild story in it and was hooked. I might actually buy the new one when it comes out (normally I just get stuff at the library). I inhaled the first two in the Guild series. I also checked out the other two story sets in that book (I've already read the Sookie books). They look pretty good.

Donna | 1350 comments I heartily recommend Meljean Brook's Guardian books. Since the last two books are due out this year, you won't have the whole delayed need gratification I've been suffering through. They actually start with a novella in the Hot Spell anthology. Not necessary, but gives you a little backgound on the characters in the first two books.

message 7: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments The first one in that series is on it's way to my library! Yes! I'll add the hot spell book as well.

erin buchanan | 188 comments 3: Death's Excellent Vacation - Charlaine Harris

now I want to read the Cat and Bones books...geez.

message 9: by Donna (new)

Donna | 1350 comments I felt the same way! Anthologies are dangerous.

message 10: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments They really are...that's how I found the Brooks and Singh books though, so can't really complain. Good to find new authors. I read a bunch of fantasy/sci-fi short story collections with Neil Gaiman in them and found myself to be bored though...don't know what it was about that crowd, but I usually only enjoyed Gaiman's stories.

message 11: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments 4: Magic Bites - Ilona Andres

message 12: by Donna (new)

Donna | 1350 comments How do you like Ilona Andres? I've seen a lot of people reading her, but am reluctant to take on another series if it's just so-so.

message 13: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments I liked it pretty well - it's not fantasy romance (yet) like the Singh books or what I assume the Brooks books are like. It's got an interesting set up of characters/plot. It sort of reminds me of the Sookie books in that there's the Pack (shape shifters) and the People (people who control vampires) and they are fighting for control. She's a "mystery solver" of sorts.

Maybe try reading Must Love Hellhounds if you haven't. There's one of the Kate Daniels short stories in there that wouldn't be as big of a commitment if you don't like it.

5: The Farthest Shore - Ursula K Le Guin

erin buchanan | 188 comments 6: Demon Angel - Meljean Brook

And..?

message 16: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments It was good but very slow. I thought the first 200 pages just took forever. I do like that you got all the back story, but it took so long I started to lose interest. Also thought it was so complicated at points that I couldn't follow it. The romance part was good, but I do like the Singh books better.

Donna | 1350 comments How did you like the Jim Butcher book?

message 39: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments It was good - I liked the magic setup and interesting plot choices. The characters seem like they will be more fun when you get to know them. I'm not sure about the narration style yet, but I'm waiting on the second book from the library. I've heard from friends that they get better as you go.

message 40: by Donna (new)

Donna | 1350 comments That's what I thought, too. And Bob is just so entertaining in so many ways. I'm waiting on #3 myself.

message 41: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments Ha! I really liked Bob the best actually. He's amusing.

message 42: by erin buchanan (new)

erin buchanan | 188 comments 34: Blueberry Girl - Neil Gaiman
