Lara Amber (laraamber) | 664 comments A few years ago a coworker lent me a book. I can't remember the title or the author and I'm no longer in touch with the coworker.

I do know the book was the first in a series. The setting was earth. The world had changed so much because of technology that people could actually have themselves turned into other creatures and nanos. The general world population was also really low. There was also an interest in the middle age/renaissance life of making your own beer, etc. Something then happened where basically the power went out. So people who weren't in bodies anymore or were out in the middle of the ocean on hoverskis were just dead. People were stranded, unable to teleport. So now those people who still knew how to do things the old way (for a lark) were now desperately needed for survival. The main characters if I remember correctly included the dad (a leader), the mom (divorced, a doctor), and a daughter.

Does this sound familiar in the slightest to anyone?

Not a clue, but sounds interesting.

Give a try over at the What's The Name Of That Book? Group here on GoodReads. They might be able to help :)

Danielle (queentess) This sounds incredibly interesting. Sorry I can't help! Reminded me of the Bruce Willis movie Surrogates, but that is based on a comic book.
