Has anyone switched from the kindle keyboard to the kindle fire? U absolutely love reading on my kindle keyboard, but am very tempted to upgrade to the fire. Is the reading experience the same?

The Kindle Fire does not have e-ink. I'm not going to be looking at video or magazines and have no use for color, so considering the change is not of interest to me.

Got a Kobo Vox for Christmas; still figuring how it works. I am sure that I'll figure it out in time.

I got an ipad over black friday and have been using that as my e-reader. I love the fact that if I don't have my ipad on me, I can still read my books on my phone and kindle will sync for each. I literally am able to go everywhere with a book now. I also have to say I was hesitant over the ipad's screen being too large to hold to read but I can read for hours and not really 'notice' that I'm on a computer screen.

From what I can tell, whether a Kindle Keyboard or a Kindle Fire is better for reading depends on the type of reading that you do. If you want to read lots of magazines or other things that benefit from color, then you might like the Fire better. However, if you read a lot of regular books, then the Keyboard is probably better because it has the e-ink screen so it is easier on your eyes. So it depends....personally, I'll be sticking with my Keyboard.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to stick with my kindle keyboard. I only read books on my kindle and I use my smartphone for surfing the web. I find reading with e-ink very easy and pleasurable, and wanted to get others opinions before making the change to the fire.

I had toyed with the idea of switching to either the ipad or kindle fire but decided that since I don't read magazines or care about all the other apps that I was better off sticking to the easy on the eyes keyboard kindle. It's served me well and I love it.

I have the original nook and love it. For Christmas my husband got me the nook tablet and i must say i really love it.

Me too! I've thought about upgrading, but didn't really see the point—I don't need a lot of tricks and gadgets. I just want to read.

Renae - yeah i couldnt justify upgrading since i really only used my nook to read. The ink tech is great on it. BUT my husband bought me this nook tablet and i really love it since i can carry GR with me :)
I may give my original nook to a friend.

Got a Kindle for Christmas.

I recently purchased a Nook and LOVE it! I really was totally against e-readers......... I love holding the book, the smell of the book, cracking the 'spine' of the book, dog-earring the corner of the page. I thought the e-readers just wouldn't cut it for me. Well, I must admit I was wrong. I am having such a great time with this Nook. I don't know what I'd do without it now! :)

Christmas of 2010 my husband surprised me with a Kindle. I LOVE it! Lightweight, instant access to hundreds and hundreds of my books, great for when I am waiting at dr. office or whatever. Also, I have the app on my computer at work so I can read during my down time without it being painfully obvious to everyone around me that I have down time (boss does not care if he does not know what you are doing, ya know?). Then this Christmas he sruprised me with a Kindle Fire so I have access to my email, fb, etc. It is wonderful. Same great books, same great customer service but with a lot of perks like games and cookbook app, etc. I still use my original Kindle too though. NOW, all that being said..... I have two trunks FULL of books that I don't have on either Kindle device. I do still love to hold the book in my hands from time to time and I WON'T purchase a digital copy if I already have a "hard" copy. I would feel like I was cheating if I did that. :) So I use both. If I am at a yard sale or bookstore and see a book that I want, I get it. Or if I am out and have one of the Kindles with me and find a book I want on there, I go with that.

I bought myself a Kindle Keyboard 3g a year ago and I still absolutely adore it. This past Christmas I received a Kindle Fire and while I love it just as much, I still prefer reading on the keyboard. The backlighting on the Kindle Fire just kills my eyes, so I'm sticking to reading on the keyboard and watching videos and play games on the Fire :)

Nook color and the original Nook, both are wonderful! love when i'm traveling being able to take one thing instead of 3 books or whatever. It also helps reduce my library at home, I have many printed books as well, so to have another 250 on my NookColor is great!

I have a sony reader, and damn do I love it. It was the best gift I've ever given myself besides my ipod. Lugging all my books around with me on holiday is now offcially over. Well on the journey out at least xD. Second hand bookstores remain deadly to my luggage weight limit.

I have had a Nook for over a year and enjoy it. The only drawback is related to my purpose in buying it: I bought it primarily to download and read free out-of-copyright books--many are hard or impossible to find in local libraries. However, the scanning process is still very imperfect--punctuation, diacritical marks and even some plain English alphabet letters get garbled on the Nook and interfere with reading. But if you pay for a fully "nooked" book it's fine (note: many of the 99 cent books are just scanned, not fully edited). Also, notetaking and dictionary navigation are pretty clumsy. And I would like the pages to 'turn' faster. Still, for being out and about with lots of options, it's great.

AGREED!! Except I'd say any e-reader
