What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

It begins with a young woman leaving New Orleans for an arranged marriage with a red-haired Texas rancher. The stagecoach is attached along the way and I believe everyone is killed. She is taken and then lost in a poker game to a man that I'm 99% sure is El Lobo.

The old cover had her in a red dress and I thought the author was Johanna Lindsey but cannot find anything by her that fits. I believe this same author also wrote a Scottish historical romance.

They fall in love, have a child, I believe the child's name is Chance (Chance the autumn wind?)

Miscommuniations happen, she somehow ends up back at the ranch of her intial intended maraige.

It comes out in the book that the man's mother was killed in from of him by this said rancher.

SPOILER ALERT
The book ends happily with them back together in California.

I thought I would kick this one back up, still hoping to find it.

Another piece is that after the woman is won in the poker game, she purchases a gray mare that she becomes very attached to and learns how to live on the trail and do things for herself.
