Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments On a lighter note...

Is it time to pick yet??? I have a date night scheduled with my wife and I probably won't want to log on and search stacks once we get home.

Whoever has me will just have to wait until the morning. Probably.

Oh, and FYI my TBR is non-existent. I'll take all new picks please.

LOL, Jim! I read that book recently and thought that woman was such a hypocrite!

Tania | 644 comments Mine doesn't have anything THAT bad... well I don't think so anyway. But there are erotica, bdsm, multiple partner and paranormal themed books. All of which I wouldn't be comfortable with a teenager reading without parental consent. But then I wouldn't want my teenager (not that I have one) reading the twilight books due to some of the themes running through them. Nothing to do with the adult content but instead to do with the way sexuality and relationships are portrayed. Its an individual thing really...

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hey Laura!

Thought I'd get in while I remembered, and had a few minutes free at work...

Hope you can find something in here!

A. Out with the Old:
1. Pile’s O’Books – Lover Revealed. You might as well continue the series, like me!

2. Mt. TBR – A Wallflower Christmas. Shortish, cute... easy to get it over and done with.

3. Steadily gaining – What Happens in London. You enjoyed the first one, so why not continue with the fun!

B. In With the New:
1. Cresting the Rise – Naked in Death. Come and join those of us who are addicted to the Eve Dallas / Bones series :)

2. Reaching the Summit – Ten Things I Love About You. Make it a two-fer and finish off this trilogy :)

3. Its All Downhill from Here – Interred with Their Bones. I figured you had few crime novels in your list - so why not read one centred around Shakespeare (who you've enjoyed).

C. Go It Alone or With Someone:
Ok, being self-serving here - these are both on my TBR, and might fulfill challenges for me. So, why not share?!
1. Barely a Lady
2. Mistress by Mistake

Desperado (lethallovely) | 822 comments DD, I have a question about B1. Does it mean that it has to be a completely new book (not on their shelves) or can it be a first book in a series that's on their TBR shelf?

message 116: by Tania (new)

Tania | 644 comments Hi Kami,

You seem to really enjoy vampire themes so I've stuck to that for the most part with some PNR/Sci-fi thrown in for variety.

Out with the Old
1. Pile's O'Books - Dark Lover by J.R. Ward because you won't be able to resist going on with the series and that will get a heap of weight off your TBR pile.

2. Mt TBR - Lover Beware by Christine Feehan - The short story that begins the Drake Sisters Series. A fun quick read that'll get you started.

3. Steadily Gaining - Stormwalker by Allyson James - I really enjoyed this book. PNR with a native american mythological twist.

In with the New
1. Cresting the rise -
Dark Prince by Christine Feehan - Ten years ago I got handed this book and told to read it despite the fact I didn't like "vampire books". I still buy them on release day.

2. Reaching the Summit - Grimspace by Ann Aguirre - The fact that I've given a sci-fi-ish book 5 stars shows that this is an author who writes with guts, depth and a great deal of skill.

3. Its all downhill from here - Naked in Death by J.D. Robb - futuristic crime romance series. Come over to the dark side and give your heart to a cop and her irishman.

Go it alone or with someone
Just cause they're on both our TBR lists...
1. Wicked Enchantment by Anya Bast
2. Covet by J.R. Ward

Hope you find something to read - if I've misjudged and you have a sudden burning desire to read regency romances let me know and I'll re-pick :)

Tania

2. Mt. TBR – Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews (the first one although short is a little tough to get through but it is totally worth it!!)
3. Steadily gaining – Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning
B. In With the New
1. Cresting the Rise – Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole
2. Reaching the Summit – Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs
3. Its All Downhill from Here – City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
C. Go It Alone or With Someone
1.
Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

I normally just go through their tbr with a notebook beside me. That's half the fun for me - seeing what other people are up to and what they enjoy reading. Oh, and getting ideas of series to pick up for myself of course.

Also have a good look at their read shelf to see what they actually enjoyed reading the most. They may have a heap of vampire novels on their tbr list but only have rated historicals highly. It will give you a better picture of who you're picking for.

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Annie! (my daughter was watching me at the computer for awhile and cracked up at your "mad hamster" nickname)

We have very little on our tbr shelves in common and not too much on our read shelves but here goes- please let me know if I've blown it and you need some new picks- seriously, would be happy to pick more for you.

A. Out with the old-

1.Pile of Books- The Quinn Legacy

2.Mt. tbr- Mistress by Mistake (ok, I cheated, saw from post above that you might want to read it this month ;))

3.Steadily Gaining- Pleasure of a Dark Prince

B. In With The New

1. Cresting the rise-Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I really enjoyed this YA vampire series. Or Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris- I have recently started this series and really enjoy it.

2. Reaching the summit- The Secret by Julie Garwood. Loved this book and thought you may want to read it for author of the month. Or Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis- just loved everything about this book.

3. It's all downhill from here- Silent Blade by Ilona Andrews- this was recommended to me for Jan. and I really liked it- short story with a kick butt heroine and some sweet romance thrown in. Or Skin Game by Ava Gray- 2 very anti-hero heroes and a little PNR in the mix- different and really good.

C. Go it alone or with someone
1. Conversion by S.C. Stephens- this was recommended to me for Jan also but haven't gotten to it yet (red cover for Feb)- free read, vampire story that looks great.

2.Across the Universe by Beth Revis- this just looks good- dystopian YA that I think comes out Feb. 1st.

Happy Reading! I really did have fun going through your shelves- I feel like I should read a Nora Roberts now!

Becky (beckysbusyreading) | 258 comments Melanie
it was so much fun to go through your shelves and added many books to my ever growing TBR!
1. Pile'o book: Heart of the West by Penelope Williamson. She is a great writer I think you would really enjoy this book I have read The Outsider and it was wonderful!
2. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. This is a short young adult book.
3. Poison Study by Maria V Snyder. This was such a good read, it surprised me how much I enjoyed it! Or As You
Desire
by Connie Brockway.
Either book will not disappoint!
4. Never Seduce a Scoundrel by Sabrina Jeffries and her School for Heiresses series which is a cute, fun, and easy reading series.
5. One Night With You by Sophie Jordan. I read this a while ago and it really stuck in my mind, which is always a good sign.
6. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs, a must read! I read this a month ago and am in lust and can't wait to finish the series, highly recommend!
7. Warrior by Zoe Archer
8. When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James. I seen you have read and enjoyed the first in the series A Kiss at
Midnight
(I also loved the book) so I think you (we) should keep on going with the series!

I hope you find something you can enjoy, if not a let me know and I will pick more!
Happy reading!,

~Megan~ (megadee) Hi Cassie! I hope I found something you might enjoy here...if you need different picks, let me know!

Out with the Old
1. Piles O'Books: Petals on the River by Kathleen Woodiwiss - My very favorite Woodiwiss novel...I still re-read it at least once or twice a year and it's been on my keeper shelf a long time.

2. Mt TBR: Key of Light by Nora Roberts - I can tell you're a Nora junkie like I am and this trilogy is one of her best. This book starts it off and the other two are just as good.

3. Steadily Gaining: Years by Lavyrle Spencer - You have a lot of Lavyrle on your shelf and I'm always down to promote her work. This book was one of my first romance novels and so has sentimental value for me. If you can't get into it, you might try my other favorite Vows which I didn't go with because it wasn't on your TBR.

In with the New
1. Cresting the rise: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs - The beginning of my favorite paranormal series It's still ongoing as book number 6 will be released 3/1.

2. Reaching the Summit: He Loves Lucy by Susan Donovan - A contemporary romance that I absolutely adored.

3. Its all downhill from here: The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen - I think I recommend this book every month because I love it so much. It was one of my top reads for 2010.

Go it alone or with someone
1. Devil's Bride by Stephanie Laurens
2. One for the Money by Janet Evanovich

Desperado (lethallovely) | 822 comments Hey Allison! These are my picks for you. If you don't see anything you're interested in reading, I am more than happy to try again. ☺

A. Out with the Old
1. The Prize by Julie Garwood~You've read a lot of Katie MacAlister novels. JG's humor reminds me of KM.
2. The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson~A dystopian YA novel like The Hunger Games, which you rated high.
3. Dirty or Tempted by Megan Hart~I noticed you read Stranger by Hart & gave it 4 stars. These are novels I LOVED by her.

The Prize by Julie Garwood The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson Dirty by Megan Hart Tempted by Megan Hart

B. In with the New
1. Ghostland by Jory Strong~I'd classify this as Erotic Urban Fantasy. Great series.
2. Teach Me by R.A. Nelson~Super creepy & disconcerting YA novel.
3. The Russian Concubine by Kate Furnivall~I noticed you haven't read many HR novels so I thought a historical fiction novel might work out better.

Ghostland (Ghostland World, #1) by Jory Strong Teach Me by R.A. Nelson The Russian Concubine by Kate Furnivall

C. Go It Alone or With Someone
*I noticed quite a few upcoming books that we have in common. I decided not add some of them because they come out towards the end of February & didn't want you to feel rushed to read it if you chose one of them.

1. Everyone Loves a Hero...and that's the problem by Marie Force~A friend of mine who received an ARC gushed like hell about this novel so I MUST give it a go!
2. Insatiable by Meg Cabot~Meg Cabot writing vamp fiction? I'm game!
3. Nightshade by Michelle Rowen~I haven't read MR before but the blurb for this book sounds intriguing.
4. Dead Girls Are Easy by Terri Garey~I've heard this book is very humorous.

Everyone Loves a Hero...and that's the problem by Marie Force Insatiable by Meg Cabot Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Michelle Rowen Dead Girls Are Easy (Nicki Styx, #1) by Terri Garey

Anja | 40 comments Hi, BJ Rose!

A. Out With The Old:

1. As You Desire by Connie Brockway. This is one of my favorite books of all time. Egypt, artifacts, unrequited love, friends-to-lovers… What’s not to love?

2. Scandal by Carolyn Jewel. I’ve got this on my own TBR as I’ve heard it’s very good. He’s in pursuit of a marriage to a widow that doesn’t think she can trust him with her heart.

3. Impulse by Candace Camp. I really enjoyed this one. The hero was the stableboy who comes back rich and wants to marry the girl that he thinks rejected him because he was beneath her. They were childhood sweethearts and she had a bad first marriage that the hero has to help her overcome.

B. In With The New:

1. Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. I’m reading this right now and so far I quite like it. I plan to read the second one next.

2. The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran. Set partly in India and partly in England, the history is done very well and feels authentic. The romance is intense and there is a lot of emotion to the story.

3. Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair. This is a futuristic space romance and I really enjoyed it. The author does not overwhelm the reader with too much technobabble and the story is really about the characters while maintaining a steady pace with the action. I loved this hero.

C. Go It Alone Or With Someone:

I've been eyeballing these two books lately and they've nearly made their way to the top of my TBR. A buddy could make one of them King of the Mountain.

1. Warrior by Zoe Archer

2. A Rake's Guide To Pleasure by Victoria Dahl

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments Hello Elke! It's a pleasure to pick for you this month. Hope you find something you like!

A. Out with the Old
1. Pile’s O’Books:
The Hostby Stephenie Meyer has the most pages on your TBR list (619). I haven't read it but I've heard good things.
2. Mt. TBR: Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James is a little more modest at 296 pages. I haven't read this one either, but the average rating is 4.11 -- not too shabby!
3. Steadily gaining: I loved The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's very suspenseful and you won't be able to put it down! Then, of course you'll have to read the rest of the trilogy.

B. In With the New
1. Cresting the Rise:
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is the first novel of my all-time favorite series. It's hard to categorize: time-travel, adventure, romance, historical fiction. This is a book (and series) that becomes an addiction!

2. Reaching the Summit: I am very stingy with my 5-star ratings. One of the most recent for me wasThe Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It's set in Nazi Germany during World War II and is narrated by Death. If this doesn't interest you, feel free to check out my shelf Best Books Ever.
3. Its All Downhill from Here: Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead. I just started this Urban Fantasy series earlier this month and I really enjoyed the first book. If you choose this, you can join us the Dare You To Read thread. :-)

C. Go It Alone or With Someone
Buddy Read: I am planning to read in the near future: Lip Service by Susan Mallery; One Day by David Nicholls; The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson
So let me know if you want to do a buddy read!

It's really hard to narrow down recs when there are so many great books out there. Let me know if you want more choices. Enjoy!

The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead Lip Service (Lone Star Sisters, #2) by Susan Mallery One Day by David Nicholls The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium, #2) by Stieg Larsson

Diane ~Firefly~ | 1512 comments Polina,

You have a pretty small TBR (I've only read 1 of them), so picking the first three was pretty easy. I hope you find something you enjoy.

A. Out with the Old
1. Pile’s O’Books – Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. This was the biggest book on your TBR pile that is already released.
2. Mt. TBR – Matched by Ally Condie. It looked interesting enough that I put it on my wishlist awhile back. Plus it has a cool cover!
3. Steadily gaining – Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. I really like this series, and you liked her YA series, so give it a try. It is a little slow in the beginning, but stay with it and it will be worth it.

Unearthly (Unearthly, #1) by Cynthia Hand Matched (Matched #1) by Ally Condie Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong

B. In With the New
1. Cresting the Rise – Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins. Cool new series taking place at a boarding school for those who are different and possibly at danger for exposing normal humans to the fact that paranormal humans exist.
2. Reaching the Summit. I rarely give 5 stars, so I'm going to cheat a little and give you the first book in a series that I recently gave 4 stars. Confessions of a Vampire's Girlfriend by Katie MacAlister is a compilation of two OOP books about teenager Fran who is trying to be normal while living with her mom at a Goth Faire and who falls for a vampire. Lots of humor in this, especially the Viking ghosts.
3. Its All Downhill from Here – PS, I Love You by Cecelia Ahern. This is a tissue book as it deals with Holly learning to live again after her husband dies. This was recommended to me last month in this challenge and I'm almost through it and liking it more than I thought I would.

Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins Confessions of a Vampire's Girlfriend by Katie MacAlister PS, I Love You by Cecelia Ahern

C. Go It Alone or With Someone
So, if you want to read one of these, let me know and I'll pick it up with you.
1. Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder. We've both read the first two and liked them, so let's finish off the series.
2. Magic Lost, Trouble Found by Lisa Shearin. Looks to be a slightly humorous take on fantasy.

Fire Study (Study, #3) by Maria V. Snyder Magic Lost, Trouble Found (Raine Benares, #1) by Lisa Shearin

Thanks Fran! You did good... my TBR list will grow I feel... :)

Ah, the hamster... at one stage at work we were doing optional web tool training, and the way our trainers knew what we were doing was on our blogs. The hardest part was finding a name for my blog that wasn't already used. I'm a Top Gear addict, and one of the hosts is Richard Hammond - or, The Hamster. And I love Edward Monkton's Madness Hamsters poem.

I'll let you know which our your fabulous choices I pick!

Hello Melissa!!

We've got 83% book compatibility, but we don't have any "to-reads" in common (that might be because I don't read paranormal. At all.)

Hope you like these!

A. Out With the Old
1. Pile’s O’Books – Angelfire by Allison Courtney Moulton
2. Mt. TBR – Bloodwork by Kim Harrison, go the graphic novels!
3. Steadily gaining – Crazy for You by Jennifer Crusie, I haven't read this one but I love Crusie!
B. In With the New
1. Cresting the Rise – Bitten by Kelley Armstrong, I love her non-paranormal writing!
2. Reaching the Summit – The Bodyfinder, a brilliant YA book
3. Its All Downhill from Here – Addicted by Charlotte Featherstone, historical erotica
C. Go It Alone or With Someone
1. Crazy Cool by Tara Janzen, I haven't read any of hers, but I think she might be like Janet Evanovich
2. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, I'm reading this for a challenge, I've heard a lot of good things about it!

Katie | 2083 comments hey cristina!

i hope you find something in here you might be interested in :)

A. Out with the Old
1. Piles O'Books: i'd love to pick something i've already read for you so it would be a real recommendation, but i'm just not very familiar with your lengthier books. however, i see you like horror and luckily enough your longest book is by Stephen King! so for this category i'm choosing Under the Dome for you.
2. Mt. TBR: How about Beyond Midnight? It comes with a pretty high rating :)
3. Steadily Gaining: Ah, here's one I'm more familiar with. Oleander House is an m/m book that covers your horror, mystery and PNR leanings. I enjoyed it and ended up giving it 4 stars.
B. In with the New
1. Cresting the Rise: Shelly Laurenston's Pride series is one of my favorites. The Mane Event has a combination of humor and PNR that you might enjoy.
2. Reaching the Summit: Dark Horse is a book i finished yesterday that earned 5 stars from me. a warning though, it is m/m and i have heard that many have an issue with the POV. i thought it was weird at first, but then found i really didn't notice it as the story progressed.
3. It's All Downhill from Here: though i've already recommended a couple in this genre, i'm going to go with The Archer here. it's rather lengthy, but it's very funny and a great mystery. if you've ever thought about giving m/m a try, you should give this book a shot.
C. Go it Alone or With Someone
i've been interested in these books for awhile and would be more than happy to read them with you :)
1. The Lightning Thief
2. Sh*t My Dad Says

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments Mountain Kat, I kind of got lost in your shelves, but here is what I came up with. Hope you find something you like.

A. Out with the Old
1. Pile’s O’Books – Pick a book from your selectee’s list that is lengthy (or that you think could cause damage if it were to fall on them!)
Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell 1,024 pp
2. Mt. TBR – You have to take a single step in order to start climbing a mountain – pick a book that is smaller (to test out the waters so to speak)
Twilight (Twilight, #1)Stephenie Meyer
3. Steadily gaining – Pick a book on their list, that you have read and enjoyed
Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon (I am actually currently reading this one, but I am enjoying it.)
B. In With the New
1. Cresting the Rise – Pick a new book in a series (that is not already on their shelves) that is still in progress and that you continue to read
Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1)by Patricia Briggs
2. Reaching the Summit – Pick a new to them book that you read in the recent past that you rated 5 stars
Darkfever (Fever, #1)Karen Marie Moning or
The Host Stephenie Meyer
3. Its All Downhill from Here – Pick a New to them Author/Genre
Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1)Richelle Mead
C. Go It Alone or With Someone
1. Recommend 2 books that you haven’t read and would be interested in reading. If your partner decides to read one of these, then you should aim to read them as a buddy read.
Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress #1), Jeaniene Frost
Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1) J.R. Ward

~Sara~ | 667 comments Hello Coffeentea.
I had a lot of fun looking through your books - it would seem we share similar interests and feelings on quite a few books. I had to remind myself I was looking for you, not me! :o
I hope you like your recs!!!

A. Out with the Old
1. Pile’s O’Books
Outlander
The first book isn't as hefty as the rest of the series but could still do some serious damage - especially in hardcover!
2. Mt. TBRMagic Bites
I loved this series, and at a mere 260 pages it's marginally smaller than most. Be forewarned: if you start you probably won't want to stop until it's over! Once you get over the initial world building, the series goes really fast.
3. Steadily gainingLord of Scoundrels
I made the mistake of picking up this book after midnight - needless to say I didn't sleep that night. :)
B. In With the New
1. Cresting the Rise
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
This is my absolute most favourite book. I reread this series every few years but the first book is a comfort read so it gets reread at least once a year.
2. Reaching the SummitSoulless
Do my eyes deceive me - not only is this book not already read by you but it's missing from your TBR!?! If that's the case, I think you're in for a treat!!!
3. Its All Downhill from HereV for Vendetta
A new author and 2 new genres all in one, a dystopia and graphic novel, if you're willing.
C. Go It Alone or With Someone
1.
Crocodile on the Sandbank
2. Ill Wind
I would be more than willing to read either of these with you.
Whichever you pick, I hope you enjoy it immensely!!!
