I'm so glad you loved it. That is one of my favorite books of all time. I knew Autumn was reading it but I didn't know it was a buddy read for her. She was buddy reading with me, the two timer. LOL.

OK, finished The Search by Nora Roberts. I have mixed feelings about it, and reviewed it if you want to read. I picked up My Soul To Take and Insatiable at the library today, Wicked Appetite and Happily Ever After are not going to be available to me this month, I'm like, 26th on the hold list. Not sure if I'll get Cloaked In Red in time, either. But I'll work on the others! :D

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Fran

I finished Mistress by Mistake last night. I'm glad you picked it out of my TBR. Better than average - 3.5 stars, if you we could give them... so I'll have to go with 4, instead.

FRAN!!! I just finished Menage. I can see why you triple loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I couldn't tear myself away from the book. I started it last night and finished it this morning. Also, I just realized that not only was this my first Emma Holly book, but this was my first m/m/f book. I can't wait to read some more Emma Holly! Thanks again for the rec!

message 417: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Gigi- Yay!! So glad you liked it. Menage was your first menage- I love it! Check out my shelves, there are a few more Emma Holly's that I really liked.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I finished my book Dead Witch Walking Here's my review:

I read this for the February Pick It For Me Challenge. As it turns out, I re-read it for the challenge.

20 pages in: this feels really familiar.
40 pages in: I read this before.
100 pages in: I remember that happening before.
300 pages in: why can't I remember how this ends?
400 pages in: yep, that's how it happened last time.

The weird thing was that I couldn't tell you a single thing that was going to happen before I re-read it. I remember two scenes in my head. Unfortunately they aren't even in the book. So I must have read at least the first two. It bothered me that I couldn't remember what this was all about. My memory is usually better than that. Why couldn't I remember? And then it occurred to me. I couldn't remember the book because it was stupid.

Now don't get me wrong, I really liked the characters and the interplay between them. I thought the writing was well paced and fun. The dialog was snappy and a joy to read. But the world-building premise was too big of a hurdle for me to get over and embrace it fully. Throw in a couple of plot holes and I just couldn't swallow it. Oh well, worse things have happened. I don't know if I'll read on or not. I enjoyed the read and I've read sillier things. Still an enjoyable experience if you like your paranormal books.

OMG, Jim, you hit it in the head with this one. That's EXACTLY how I felt I about it except that I HATED the main character. That's why I couldn't take the whole thing.

message 443: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments Time to update the list, I finished my book Covet by JR Ward.

Tania, I know you didn't care for it, but I thought it was really good. I enjoyed the themes of the story a whole lot. I liked the characters. I liked the way the story came together and I want to get the next book in the series. I like the whole 7 deadly sins angle and liked Jim, the assassin with the heart of gold, who is trying to save all these souls.

message 444: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (craftymommy) | 766 comments Katie, I'm so glad you liked your picks. I've started Hunting Season but realized I have a couple library books due on the 17. I need to finish those to turn them back in and then I'll pick HS back up.

I read At the Bride Hunt Ball. I really loved the first half, with all the heroine's antics. I rate it a three stars however because it didn't really catch me all the way. Still glad I read it though, so thanks!

I am happy to know that you liked By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept, It's been a long time since I have read it but I still feel good about it, probably will re-read it sometime again. And for the other two I haven't read them as well, just like the excerpts and also I have been wondering Gaiman for along time, I have heard nothing but good things about his writing. Tell me what you think, if you manage to read it this month and if not maybe we can buddy read it in March.
I got my The Secret History but still couldn't put my hands on it. Planning to read it next week.

I didn't not care for it, I just found it very much a first book and got a bit fatigued by all the world building which was foremost in my mind when I was writing a review. I usually rate my books by my wanting to go back and do a re-read.

5 stars are books I have to stop myself from re-reading or going onto the next book straight away. 4 stars are books I know I'll be picking up to re-read again. 3 stars I really enjoyed the whole book. 2 stars are books I know I'll never read again and 1 star books are books I had trouble finishing in the first place.
