Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) For all of you who are interested in reading Wives and Daughters as a buddy read we will be starting in March and on into April-May? So share your thoughts about the book and we will separate the chapters as we go along.

LauraT (laurata) | 493 comments I'd love to reread this novel, one of my favourite, but the end of march would be better that the beginning...

toria (vikz writes) (victoriavikzwrites) I'm ready whenever you are

Rebecca This book is on my TBR. March will be good.

Marialyce March is just great!

message 6: by Gitte (new)

Gitte (gittetofte) I might join in :-)

message 7: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Look forward to hearing your comments, will try to post by chapters, or whatever works for all of you.

message 8: by Silver (new)

Silver I recently picked up a copy of this group and after enjoying North and South so much I would like to read this one. Hopefully I will be able to fit it in, depending upon what else I have going on in March.

message 9: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) you could moderate if you wish?

Silver Robin wrote: "you could moderate if you wish?"

I do not want to come off as if I am taking the discussion away from you and Marialyce, but I would be happy to assist in any way if desired.

message 11: by Marialyce (new)

Marialyce Oh no, Silver, I wasn't moderating, I was just joining in on the discussion.

message 12: by Silver (new)

Silver Oh ok, I was not sure if you were going to mod on this one or not.

message 13: by Lily (last edited Feb 16, 2011 12:32PM) (new)

Lily (joy1) | 1289 comments That's a book I started and never finished, even though I was enjoying the story. So, if the timing is right (not reading too many other things), I will enjoy joining the discussion, and I shall certainly follow it, even if I don't post. (As I recall, the only recording our library system had was MP3 and my only player of MP3 is a portable and isn't easy to control.)

message 14: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jaymers8413) I would love to read this with you guys since I have already read the group pick!

message 15: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) We will make this an open moderator-free, but,if one of you would like to assist, by all means. This is just something that we wanted to buddy read, since I have never done this before, The thread is already up, I don't know if we will have chapters, as in other group reads.

message 16: by Pippa (new)

Pippa Loved this book - I have already read it but will join in the discussion.

message 17: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Sure, all who are available may join in on our discussions.

message 18: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (deborahkliegl) | 922 comments I have been meaning to read this one so count me in.

message 19: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) will do.

message 20: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (deborahkliegl) | 922 comments Started it last night. I'm using an Oxford edition which had a great intro to what was going on in the society and science when this was written. Finished chapter 1 and am looking forward to reading more.

message 21: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) I will start reading it soon, was finishing another book first. On to Wives and Daughters!

message 22: by Daga (new)

Daga | 11 comments Oh, I'd like to join in, though I'm not sure I'll have enough time. But I will try to pop in every once in a while at least to read your comments :D

message 23: by Lily (new)

Lily (joy1) | 1289 comments I do hope someone will moderate at least to the extent of providing separate threads for several sections of the novel, as was done for Sister Carrie? I feel too newbie and unacquainted with the structure to offer to even help, although I did read a substantial portion of the novel within the past year or two.

message 24: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I didn't start. I was waiting for a scedule. Will there be one?

message 25: by SarahC (new)

SarahC (sarahcarmack) | 1418 comments Robin has not been available today, so I am posting the first sections of the discussion of Wives and Daughters. Please begin discussion as you are ready-- I am sure that Robin won't mind if you are excited to begin.

The threads are broken at a few places where the storyline seems to naturally break or transition. I didn't set threads too far ahead, again, in case Robin has something different in mind.

I may not be able to join in the entire discussion, but may dip in from time to time. It is a lovely novel and I know you will all enjoy the discussion.

message 26: by SarahC (last edited Mar 04, 2011 06:38PM) (new)

SarahC (sarahcarmack) | 1418 comments Oh, if you are new to GoodReads discussions -- please look for the actual beginning discussion thread in this same folder - click on the folder heading in bold green "Buddy Reads" at the top of this page and it will take you to the list of discussion threads. Enjoy.

message 27: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Sarah, Thank you for starting the threads for W&D. I have heard good things about this book. So I look forward to starting.

message 28: by SarahC (new)

SarahC (sarahcarmack) | 1418 comments You're welcome, Rebecca. Would anyone else be interested in checking in at this point and just saying where you are with the book and if you are planning on entering the discussion at some point soon?

With Buddy Reads that is a nice way to do it, so that your other buddies get an idea of the pace needed for discussion -- since the Buddy Reads don't necessarily run on a strict schedule or determined by the main group moderators. So everyone check in if possible!

Sarah -- let me add my thanks for the setup!

I'm not certain when and where I'll be checking in. I am not actively re-reading, but, as I did with Sister Carrie, I will follow the discussion and figure out when and if I might be able to add something useful to the conversation. There will be a point where I will have to pick up reading again if I am to be a worthwhile participant beyond that point. As I said before, I read/listened to the novel within the past couple of years until such point as other demands caused me to set it aside. I had been finding it truly enjoyable, albeit a bit long-winded and winding.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Hello, I am back, had a few glitches with my computer. I am far advanced in the reading. up to Chapter Fourteen. Molly gets patronized. I just decided to go ahead and read since I couldn't get online.

message 31: by Silver (new)

Silver There is a section posted up for Chapters 6-13

message 32: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) I am on this as well, I think Molly doesn't much care for Mrs. Kirkpatrick.

message 33: by Carina (new)

Carina (simplycarinaxo) Only just bought it, so I think i'll finish way after the finishing date as I already have a waiting list, but I have seen the BBC series which I love!!! So I'm very excited to see what the book will be like!

message 34: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Enjoy reading the book, Carina.
