My wonderful husband just gave me the NookColor as an early Valentine's Day gift. Now, I already had the original Nook, and figured I would give everyone my views on the NookColor.

So, far the only negative's that I have discovered are that the NookColor does NOT have the 3G network available. The other issue is that when you transfer your documents (anything not purchased from B&N), you cannot bookmark the page you left off on. However, if you remember which page you left off at... you can do a search to go to that page. I have heard that B&N is planning to do an update in the future that will fix these two issues.

Now, as for some things I found out about the NookColor that I was previously unaware of...

It can play videos. I am talking actual movies, as long as they are in MP4 format, which is the same format that the IPOD uses. If your movies are in a different format, you can use a converter to change them to the correct format.

There is a speaker in the back of the Nook, which means that you do not always have to use headphones when you want to listen to music or an audiobook.

The NookColor supports more formats than the original Nook did.

You can expand the memory up to 32 GB.

The resolution for the color screen is actually BETTER than the IPAD (I own the IPAD too).

You get Pandora with it.

It has a function that makes it easier to suggest books, share books, and request books from other Nook users. If you know a friend who has the Nook, and they allow it... you can browse their library and request their lend me books

You can sync the NookColor up to Twitter, Google, and Facebook. You can share passages, quotes, etc through this.

It offers more options to browse in the online shop.

You can use your B&N account on up to five Nook devices. Every book you buy will show up on all five Nooks.

It offers an easier way to highlight, put notes in margin, share passages/quotes, and look up the meaning of words.

If anyone has any questions about the NookColor, let me know and I will try to answer them. :)

Veronica (veraj121) I myself purchased a Nook Color the first week in February and I love it. Everything you have stated is right on point. However, I am able to bookmark the page left off.

Jackie (thenightowl) I just bought one Saturday and I'm absolutely in love with it.

Hello, do you like reading your books on the nook color?? I am worried about it being backlit. I read a ton and like that the regular nook seems like a book. Thanks for your input. :) Really I want a color as well...but I would think I would still use my regular one as well.

I do actually like my nookcolor. I had the regular nook before this one. The backlit screen doesn't bother me at all. Although, I spend a lot of time on the computer so I am already used to it. A suggestion: The woman at B&N told me that you can buy the NookColor and can return it within 2 weeks. So, you could buy it, try it, and if you don't like it... return it. That is what I did. I gave myself 2 weeks to decide if I liked it, and I did. I ended up selling my old Nook to a close friend. :) She couldn't afford the NookColor right now, so I sold her my regular Nook and gave her a TON of ebooks on it. :)

I like that at night when I am in the car, while my hubby drives... I can read in the dark. :) This is also great, because at least twice a year we have a 5 hour drive to visit my hubby's family, and we are usually driving in the dark. :) This way I can read through the entire drive!

lol It has a lot of features that the regular Nook doesn't have, which is nice. If you get ebooks from someone other than B&N, you still can't bookmark the page. I don't know if that is an issue for you. I just write down or remember my page.

stormhawk | 1184 comments Can you make notes on books that aren't from B&N? You can use that instead of a bookmark.

Kindle lets you bookmark any book, and you can also add notes to them.

message 10: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) If the book is in epub format you can, but if it is in pdf format you can't do notes or bookmark.

I don't usually do notes or highlighting with my books. It never occurs to me.

Are you talking about "text to speech"?

When I listen to audiobooks, I usually use my ipod before bed, but I do have the option of listening to them on my Nook. :)

No idea, I haven't turned mine on all week. I guess I better check it out.

Shanon Grey (shanongrey) | 5 comments I have found that it's better to take my NookColor into a B & N and let them so the updates. The newest one is supposed to give us some of the things the tablet has. I haven't gone in yet. They are always helpful at my store.

message 21: by Diane (new)

Diane (dyniy) | 83 comments It's so nice to talk to people that have a Nook. It seems like everyone has a Kinde. My husband just brought mine home one day. I couldn't make up my mind so he did it for me. I love mine. My husband & my Nook. My nearest store is almost 30 miles away so I'm sort of on my own.

message 22: by Shanon (new)

Shanon Grey (shanongrey) | 5 comments I had to call them once. They were really nice and helpful. I love my NookColor. I got it because, at the time, I could upload a pdf of the novel I'd finished and it hadn't gone to press yet. I just wanted to see it so bad. Like yours, my wonderful DH came home with it. I have Kindle on my PC now as well. But I love lying in bed with the low backlight reading while my DH sleeps.

message 23: by Diane (new)

Diane (dyniy) | 83 comments I love being able to read without bothering my Hubby too. It's the only time when it's really quiet & I can really get into my book. I have Kindle on my PC also. It's like having the best of both worlds.

I want to get a Fire but I din't think my husband is going to go for it. I believe he thinks that I'm spoiled. I think that he might be right. I guess that I'll just keep trying to win one. I haven't won anything in a while, maybe it's my turn. ;-)

lol I'm loving my fire so far! I have a month of free prime membership, which allows me to stream movies and tv shows for free. Plus, I get a ton of extra books for free and I can borrow a book from amazon for up to one month, without paying anything. When this month is over, I'm going to sign up for prime permanently. :) My hubby could pry me away from it until 3am!!!! lol

Tell your hubby about all the free stuff you can get with it! Plus it's less than $200!
