Krys (incognerdo) | 140 comments I have a question for those of you who happen to be biblophiles. My book collection is quite "expansive," for lack of a better word. I recently moved for the third time in two years and have been able to get all of my books in ONE place. While unpacking, I realized I have THREE copies of Great Gatsby. Most of the classics I have at least two copies. Now, being an English teacher, extra copies are no problem to deal with. I want to stop wasting my book money on books that I forgot I have. Do any of you use a library software to keep track of what you have?

Mac computers can use a program called Delicious Library 2. It is only for Macs and they have no desire at all to make a PC friendly version. I have a code for it but my Macbook was destroyed and I have no desire to buy another. I want something that will run on a PC.

Do any of you use one?

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 390 comments I just did a google search and found several (but I really like the idea of Delicious Library with the scanner!)

1. All My Books: http://thelibrarysoftware.com/

2. Book Collector: http://www.collectorz.com/book/

3. BiblioteQ: http://biblioteq.sourceforge.net/inde... This one seems to be for large libraries where you can keep up with patrons etc... but its free

4. Runningman software has databases for just about anything in the home: http://www.rmsft.com/misc.html

And this site here: http://www.librarysupportstaff.com/4a... lists a TON of different software for keeping up with your books.

Hope this helps some! :)

Knobbynob | 2 comments Have you considered librarything.com? Awesome site! I have almost my entire library there and it's quite easy to add the books. I highly recommend it.

Kristin, have you considered just listing all your books here on goodreads? You can make up as many shelves on your profile as you wanted, such as a shelf called "books I own" "classics" "multiple copies owned" etc, you can enter all your books by isbn number, so you can enter multiple copies of the same book, and you can make your own notes in your books too, plus the best thing is it is free. :o)

Once you have the details entered you can also export your book list as save it as a cvs file on your own computer as a backup, and do this as often as you want. Then your books would be both listed and saved on your own computer, and here as well as a second backup version. Just a thought.

SarahSaysRead If you happen to have Windows Vista or 7, see if you have the Microsoft Works (separate from Microsoft Office) program. It contains a "Databases" program and has one specifically for cataloguing your books. I used that, and though it took a while (I had about 700 books at the time), it's so worth it, and it's easy to maintain. Plus, Microsoft Works came with a bunch of other cool and useful stuff, so if you decide to buy it, you're getting a lot more than just the book-file database.

Krys (incognerdo) | 140 comments Wow! You guys are amazing!!

Yeah, I know I'm pushing over 700 books by now. I do have a feeling I'm going to miss the scanning feature of Delicious Library. I just didn't know if anyone else out there was currently using a library software. I'll have to look into these.

Thanks guys!!

Laura K | 266 comments I have www.collectorz.com/book software on my laptop, and I love it. Very user friendly.
I also purchased their mobile app for my itouch which I sync up with my laptop so both inventories match. I usually bring my itouch with me when going to the bookstores; I've not bought duplicate books in a long time.

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 390 comments The one from Collectorz has a bar code scanner that you can buy to go with it. It actually has 3 different ones. Starting at $20 up to > $100.

Collin | 197 comments The iPhone app for goodreads has a barcode reader (so I read), which would allow you to just keep everything here for free :) Has anyone used this successfully yet?
