Danine (dulcemea) If you found yourself in a sticky situation, what detective (police, private or amateur) would you hire to help you out?

Thanks for the question donation Mary Todd!

Thank you for the questions. I'm posting them in the order they were rec'd.

I apologize for absence of the Friday question last week. It is a bit stressful in my life at the moment and I'm catching up on posts. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

message 2: by Tana (new)

Tana Harrison I am going funny with this. I chose Stephanie Plum from Janet Evanovich books. She gets herself in the funniest/worst situations. I might get into more trouble but at least I would be having fun.

message 3: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) I think I'd have to go with Aisling Grey from the Katie MacAlister books. She seems to always be stumbling into situation and then finds the most funny and amazing ways to extricate herself. It might give me grey hair, but it would be a thrill a minute getting out of the trouble!

message 4: by Liz B (new)

Liz B (lizb) | 104 comments Oh, this is easy. Thomas Lynley from Elizabeth George's series. Handsome, complex, and nobly born--what more can a British mystery aficionado want?

(Adam Dalgliesh from P.D. James came in second place. He got points for being a poet, but he's just not as cute as Lynley in my mind's eye.)

message 5: by Ed (last edited Aug 10, 2008 08:42PM) (new)

Ed (ejhahn) | 235 comments Spenser and Hawk. They are inseparable and unbeatable. If you don't know their creator, you've missed a great series.

message 6: by Karol (new)

Karol If I could pull someone from a different time into my own world, the choice would undoubtedly be Sherlock Holmes! Besides, (I'm not sure what this says about me) I've always liked a man who smoked a pipe.

message 7: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer A.M. (jenniferam) | 106 comments I would pick Alex Cross from the James Patterson mystery series. All sorts of bad stuff has happened to him, but he is still churning away!

message 8: by Danine (new)

Danine (dulcemea) Ben Reese from Sally Wright's mystery novels.

message 9: by Mary Todd (new)

Mary Todd (marytodd) | 924 comments I would pick Arley Hanks(Joan Hess's heroine)...after spending a week with my mother Arley is the only one who could deal with my family.

message 10: by Joanie (new)

Joanie | 335 comments I guess I'd pick Alex Cross too. Plus he always seemed kind of sexy which is an added bonus!

message 11: by Karen (new)

Karen | 57 comments I'd have to pick Sherlock Holmes too.
He's brilliant. Even though he uses drugs in between jobs.

message 12: by Andre (new)

Andre I'm with Karen and Kay on this one; Mr. Holmes would be my first choice, followed in close second by Inspector Dupin.

Slainte'

message 13: by Chasidy (new)

Chasidy I would want the Hardy Boys to help me. I remember reading those books when I was still in grade schools and I would always wonder how much fun it would be to go on an adventure with those boys. That being said they are ddefinately my choice in helping to get me out of a sticky situation.

Tera (TheBookishAbyss) | 231 comments My first thought was Nancy Drew, but if I were in a sticky situation, I don't know that an 18 year old would have the experience needed to get me out of it, so I would have to go with a couple of Agatha Christie characters: Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple. Poirot has the deep thinking, intellectual approach and Miss Marple never gets her feathers ruffled. Two people that could put me at ease while helping me deal with a dilemma.

message 15: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I wouldn't mind being "rescued" by Ranger or Morelli from the Stephanie Plum series. I don't think I'd want to put my fate in her hands, though!!

message 16: by Hilda (new)

Hilda I think it would have to be Alex Cross from the James Patterson books :)

message 17: by Maria (new)

Maria (minks05) | 84 comments Peter Decker or Milo Sturgis.

Alex Cross and Tempe Brennan would also get a vote, as would Harry Potter and company, just so i could see all of that magic in action!!

message 18: by Dini (new)

Dini I would go for Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot and his faithful companion, Arthur Hastings. The latter would be the younger man to keep me company, plus he would be as clueless about everything as I am. That way I won't look too stupid in front of Poirot, haha.

message 19: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (inklings) | 62 comments Call me indecisive, but:
1. Ben Reese
2. Sherlock Holmes
3. Hercule Poirot
Not in that order, maybe. But if I were to ever get myself in a sticky situation, it would probably require all three! (and companions)

message 20: by Sarenna (new)

Sarenna (djsthree) | 44 comments Can I go with Hannah Swenson? If for nothing else, I love the fact that she agrees with me that chocolate solves everything.

message 21: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 36 comments Maybe Walter Hartright from Collins' "The Woman in White." He's forced to play detective (hence, I'm counting him as an amateur sleuth) to save the woman he loves from a grasping, desperate villain.

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) Alex Cross no question about it.

message 23: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I would go with Stephanie Plum. While maybe not the most efficient choice, she would be the most entertaining and she might bring Ranger (or another one of her kooky sidekicks) along!!

message 24: by Jill (new)

Jill | 16 comments At the moment, I think I'd choose Callahan Garrity, since she has police experience. While she gets herself in awkward situations for a PI, she can handle most anything if she gets a second to think.

message 25: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 30 comments I think I'd pick Goldy Bear, cause then I'd get something delicious to eat while she's solving the situation!!

message 26: by MB (What she read) (last edited Jan 23, 2009 04:37PM) (new)

MB (What she read) In no particular order:

- Vincent Rubio from Anonymous Rex & etc.
- Deborah Knott from Bootlegger's Daughter A Deborah Knott Mystery & etc.
- The Flock from Three Bags Full
- Ellie Haskell from The Thin Woman & etc.
- Meg Lanslow from Murder With Peacocks & etc.

But most of all I would want Lord Peter Wimsey & Harriet Vane!

message 27: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (srtoomey) | 11 comments Kenzie and Gennaro from Dennis Lehane's series.

message 28: by Tina (last edited Jan 29, 2009 03:53AM) (new)

Tina (tinamats) Thursday Next or Jack Spratt from Jasper Fforde's books. :D

message 29: by DevonAlyse (new)

DevonAlyse Cooper Cartwright...from Meg Cabot's Heather Wells Series...

message 30: by Carol (new)

Carol (librarychic) I would choose the Women's Murder Club from James Patterson's novels, they just have too much fun, (minus the close calls).

message 31: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 394 comments Either Stephanie Plum or Connor and Mike from Lynda la Plantes Trial and Retribution (or Jane Tennison - Prime Suspect)

message 32: by Donna (new)

Donna | 1350 comments Definitely Lisbeth Salander. Tenecious, thorough, scary intelligent & slightly psychotic. I can't think of anyone I'd rather have on my side.

message 33: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphne2163) No question, Jack Reacher. What I wouldn't give to spend a few hours with him. I have a huge literary crush on him and standing 6 foot 5 inches he can squash just about every sticky situation!

message 34: by Patti (new)

Patti | 28 comments Lucas Davenport from the Prey series by John Sandford
