Harry Potter discussion

Hello,

I've recently purchased The Order of the Phoenix, because it was too cheap to leave it. Now, I have read The Chamber of Secrets, but that was like ten years ago. I do remember enjoying it, but I was ten years younger, of course. Now my question is, can I read the order of the phoenix as an independent book or is it just gonna be weird?

Thing is, I wanna see if I like it before I spend money buying the other ones. I have seen all the movies up until Half Blood Prince, if that helps.

I recommend reading them in order, but I think JK Rowling does a fairly good job keeping you in the know either way. You'd get more out of the development, revelations, etc; the death at the end would mean more, but you won't be lost. I know people who have read them out of order and been fine.

You NEED to read the series in order. There are important plot points in the 7th one, and the only way to understand that is to have read the first book.
You MUST MUST MUST read them in order :)

Sorry, but I still think read them in order. There are plenty of characters/references that were cut out of the movies. And in the final battle of Hogwarts, some of that will defiantly come back to confuse you.
Plus, they are all magnificent, so why no read them all :)

At the begining of each book JK.R reintroduces harry to the reader so the books can be read independently up until the Goblet of Fire then the story becomes to involved.

It is still highly recomended that you read them all in order, its a wonderful story and you dont want to misunderstand anything because you didnt read them in order.

You should definitely read them in order. Like with any other series there are little plot pieces and information that will only really make sense if you've read them from the beginning.

It really depends on how much you remember of the previous books. As long as you can remember the storylines and major events that took place, you're fine. I was like you too- almost a decade since my last book (order of the phoenix), but I re-read it and then proceeded to HBP and DH. If you're that concerned, watch the movies. Though they are horrifyingly different from the books, they do still manage to get the basics right. It's best to re-read the whole series, really.

I started with #5 (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) and I really believe that you need to read at least the last 3 in order. I read the earlier ones after reading #4. But I would really, really, really recommend you read them in order. Even if you saw the movies. There are just so many little things that are revealed in the earlier books that help to make sense of things latter on and also just plain make the series so enjoyable to read.

I know many people find the first book a bit on the juvenile side, but it really gives a lot of great background. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ended up being one of my favorite book even though I read it later on because it had so much wonderful information that ended up meaning so much later in the series.

I started with the 5th one too because my friend recommended it for a book review task we did but after that, I went back to the first one and read them in order. I think that if you can, you should read them in order. As well as a better understanding of the series, it's part of the adventure of Harry growing up, discovering his destiny and learning to fight for himself and his friends. :)

Next I read the 4th part and after that i started reading from the 1st part!!!
According to me , reading in series does not matter but yes, it's more interesting that way.

I read in order and it is easier that way but if you aren't read 5-7 in order; it makes it interesting and easier to comprehend.

its better to read it in order so that events are fresh in your mind if not you're going yo go back and read the books again. Its much more fun in order.

You should read them in order, there's foreshadowing in some of the books for future books, and the overall plot will make much more sense if you read them in order.

I have read all the books in order except for the cursed child, which l read after reading half blood prince.

Read them in order. Because like that you get to feel the entire story and because in every book there's a new character that appears in the movies and J.K tells us must of their background stories with details

Reading them in order would make more sense. They age as the books go on, and more things get revealed, so reading them out of order wouldn't make sense.

It’s not necessary but it makes more sense to read it in order since there are many important events in the books and going out of order causes you to miss those events, and makes the book confusing.

it doesn't really matter that much but like the books have like an interconnection so if u would read in order u would understand the story like the deathly hallows begings as "the two men" so we don't know which men

Personally i Think its easier to read Them in order. As things make much more sense.
