I started in fifth grade. My friends were all reading it (we had a club that was full of nerds. we had a chant and a pledge and everything it was amazing), so I was like 'I should really read this book' so I borrowed my mum's copy and began reading. It was an amazing book. Coincidently, a week into my starting to read the book, my mum decided to read it aloud to me and my sister. So she read up to the third book to us, then my sister was like "Ew this is terrible" so I began reading it on my own and actually got a full set for Christmas.

Cali | 1 comments I started reading them when I was about eight ( and all the books had been released by then)

message 357: by Lacey (new)

Lacey | 22 comments Chamber of Secrets was actually the first book I read I think, I was roughly 13-14. Then I watched the first five films on DVD before watching the rest as they came out in cinema. Deathly Hallows I read before I watched though and that made quite a difference due to their being a few different alterations in the films.

giorgia (wotchergiorgia) | 3 comments When I read Harry Potter for the first time I was 11. A child, yes, with no idea of what I would have read. I remember that the first time was a tragedy. No, not because I didn't like the books, but because I was lazy, so starting the reading of a famous saga was really challenging and hard, but I did it. From that moment the saga became part of me, of my person. Harry Potter was, is, and will always be in my heart, like no other book, and I read so much. Every year I reread all the books of the saga, and I continue to cry, and to laugh and to smile. Every time is like the first one. Every time I feel like I'm coming home, well, it is. Harry Potter is my home, my happiness, I'm not joking. It has litterally saved me. I have to stop myself at a point when I talk about Harry, because I could continue with it forever.

lyria soso (lefpol) | 3 comments I think I was 8 years old?
I started the series by reading the 2nd and 4th book, as they were the only HP books we had at home (they belonged to my mom).
After reading these two books i started reading the whole series from the start (buddy reading with my dad lol)
Also, i was in elementary at that time and me and my best friend would play and pretend we were students at Hogwarts and using a spell we had made copies of ourselves so we could be in the Muggle world as well. We also wrote a couple books about magic AND made one or two potions that stinked and my mom threw out of the house when se found them four years later.

These were good times.

message 373: by Sylvie (new)

Sylvie | 6 comments I actually didn’t read Harry Potter until the summer after ninth grade. I had one friend who really liked it, and a few others who had read some of the series, I borrowed the first book from my friend to read on a road trip and before I knew it, I’d finished them all in about a month. I plan to reread soon!

message 374: by Luna (new)

Peyton (pemhorse8) | 13 comments Um, I haven't read them. I love the movies though. I just can't get myself to read the books tough.

message 381: by Makayla (new)

Makayla I just started reading them last year. I started the series before my 21st birthday. I wasn’t allowed to read them before because my family thought that the witchcraft in them was evil. My parents have gradually changed their views on it and gave me the Harry Potter book set on Christmas of 2019 (thank goodness, I was gonna start reading the books and watching the movies behind their back’s).
Anyways, I’ve been really enjoying them! I can see why they were such a global hit! I hate that I missed out on reading them and watching the movies as a kid, but I’m glad that I get still get to enjoy them now. They’ve actually been the best escape from quarantine life so maybe I started reading them at a good time. Lol

message 391: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the book that made me fall in love with reading. Before I struggled (I was in elementary school) and had to attend special lessons because I was doing so poorly learning how to read. One day my mom sat me down before dinner and said “Here, I think this one you might like”. And it’s been a signed deal ever since.

message 392: by Afomya (new)

Afomya Alemayehu (afomyathefangirl) | 9 comments I read them when I was twelve and they are the biggest reason I started reading fantasy books. Before Harry Potter, I only read detective books like Nancy Drew

message 393: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 3 comments I saw The Chamber of Secrets when it was out in theaters so I was 20. My aunt wanted to see it and she had read whatever books where out at the time and had seen The Sorcerer’s Stone. I wasn’t really interested in seeing it but agreed. Many years later, about 5 years ago, I picked up a copy of SS and have been a potter head since. Had no idea what I was missing. All I cared about reading when I was in my 20’s was King, true crime, murder mysteries, horror and classics. How Harry has changed my life!!!

message 400: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (bluespirits) | 5 comments I read the first one, & maybe the second too, when they first came out but then I stopped reading them. I don't remember why exactly. I would have been 8 when the first one came out.
I picked them up again while in Middle school, before HBP came out, & absolutely loved them! They are now the only series of books that I re-read.
