Zack (Myrddin767) | 68 comments I was thinking about what eragon said at the beginning of book 3, when he said: "Even though i can devise numerous spells to perform one action, blocking those spells might require but a single counterspell. If oyu prevent the action itself from taking place, then you don't have to tailor your counterspell to address the unique properties of each individual spell."
But then, when he's talking to Arya about using Galbatorix's true name, she says that Galbatorix cast a spell that will kill anyone who uses it. shouldn't he be able to block that spell with the ward he placed on himself that prevents ppl from casting spells on him? Or just use a spell that prevents a spell from killing him?

Steven | 15 comments If I remember correctly Galbatorix actually evoked a spell that would kill anyone who spoke his true name. So that even if someone stumbled upon hi true name they would just drop dead. I also remember one of the characters in the book saying that may be a few few people who have known and do know Galbatorix true name, but it wont do any good. I believe it was Oromis.

Harpoon ... | 1387 comments What's the discrepancy there? your first statement said that you can prevent using unnecessary spell counters by stopping the action of that spell itself (while its being casted or conjured. While the second statement is about galbatorix having an ALREADY EXISTING SPELL to protect his true name. since the spell is already casted anyone who will say galby's name will be affected by it.

message 4: by Zack (new)

Zack (Myrddin767) | 68 comments well, one should be able to then stop the spell from killing oneself, simply by placing an anti-death-by-spell ward. however, no one can block galby's death spell because they dont know how it works

Harpoon ... | 1387 comments I don't think dot there is lack of knowledge in the spell that Galby use. But the strength of the spell itself. Remember Galby has access to tons of Eldunari so he can create a very very strong ward.

Auroralumi | 69 comments So basically it doesn’t matter if Eragon is able to figure out the spell bc the strength of the spell that Galbatorix will have placed to protect his name will be impossible to breach. At least that’s what I’m thinking and your explaining, right? ^_^ Personally I would truly dislike the ending of book 4 if the way they defeat Gaby is by saying his true name only… Even if we are wrong and it was possibly , I hope it’s a last resort after a lot of fighting and that it includes a major twist or something :p

Zack (Myrddin767) | 68 comments hmm, well, im thinking that first, eragon says that one spell can block many, without knowing exactly the spell to block, but later arya says you need to know exactly how the spell will kill you in order to block it. I think thats what it is. I hope that clears some of what i said earlier.
... and yeah, I would hate that ending too, kinda lame after the battles with murtagh and galby killing Oromis and Glaedr

britt ✨ (britteeebee) | 287 comments I hope that they don't end up killing Galby just by finding his true name. Although someone might discover it and then use it to become a martyr and sacrifice themself in order to let the others kill Galby. I don't know. I don't think CP would write that ending. It seems too predictable.

Miss Silvertongue (misssilvertongue) | 17 comments One way or the other, Galby's going to die. Isn't that how all fantasy books end? Unless by some dramatic turn of events Galby becomes good or something along those lines...

message 10: by Zack (new)

Zack (Myrddin767) | 68 comments i dont think thats possible, i mean he just killed the last dragonrider from the old times, and has murtagh sworn to destroy the vsrden and all resistance.

message 11: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) | 287 comments Yeah I don't think there will be some dramatic turn-around and Galby will suddenly be "good". I think that is kind of a cop-out. I mean it seems like it's not a very original ending.

I hope that they do end up killing Galby in the end, but I feel like there will be many lives lost and many characters will be sacrificed. Kind of a bittersweet ending, especially for the characters who survive. I would be okay with that because then it's not like "Oh they killed him and everything is wonderful", or "He turned to the good side". It has more depth and thought behind the final conclusion of the series.

message 12: by Zack (new)

Zack (Myrddin767) | 68 comments he actually kinda foreshadows that in the dream about the man being left on a shore, while others sail away.

Miss Silvertongue (misssilvertongue) | 17 comments I'm not saying that would happen at all, it was sarcastic. I'm just saying, we all expect him to die, now we're just waiting for Paolini to be creative and gives us an original reason of death.

message 14: by Zack (new)

Zack (Myrddin767) | 68 comments lol true. we are simply waiting for him to give us what we want, and giving him the plot to write for us. xD

message 15: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) | 287 comments Yeah I hope he kills Galby off because if he is just left somewhere or imprisoned I think I would always wonder, what would happen if he escaped? Like it would be almost like a cliffhanger. So unless CP wants to write more books about Alagaesia/Eragon/etc., I think he should just kill Galby off.

But in a really creative way that probably hasn't been done before.

Nothing like a tall order from the fans for the concluding book in the series hey? Lol

message 16: by Zack (new)

Zack (Myrddin767) | 68 comments hehe, it would be awesome if he actually were following this discussion, he could clear up this, and take orders :P

message 17: by Auroralumi (new)

Auroralumi | 69 comments LOL!!! Now that would be cool if he was following lol. Just sit here and say:

Dear CP,
I hope the writing is going well and if you would please look at some of the points we fans would like for you hit, we will be totally happy!

We would like:

-Gaby death to be original and unexpected (we know he will die but when and how is the question)

-Also, can I get a dose of explanation when it comes to using blocking spells.

-Oh and a side order of… finish the book please!!!!! Heehhehhehe ^_^

Thanks from your fans!

And yes Zack it clears up what you were saying :)

How about they find out that Galby was under a spell to be evil, and then sail away (like in the vision) to defeat the faraway sorcerer or something? of maybe not. but i once read a book where there was a bad guy the turned out to be hypnotized by an even badder guy but that guy was also hypnotized.... I wonder.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

and i don't want CP to write because he would know everything= horrible spoiler

message 21: by Harpoon (new)

Harpoon ... | 1387 comments If galby is being used and he isn't the bad guy, then that means the story is unfinised and may have another part.

message 22: by Auroralumi (new)

Auroralumi | 69 comments AHHHHH!!! Shhhhh dont even give him that idea 0_0... I think Harpoon would be right.... more to write... more for us to wait.... still dont want to believe that Nov. 8th will be the last lol.... one day I can (when i finsih the 4th book lol). But Alex that is a crazy ass theory but i'll feel cheated b/c i want to hate Gaby after all this time lol and no I wouldnt wnat to know either :P I hate spoilers :)
