Holli I have always been fascinated by astrology and was excited to see how many others in this group were too after a comment I made about being a Pisces in our Gammas thread.....

So my question for all of you Chicks is this: do you agree that your sign depicts you fairly or do you feel maybe you should have been in a different month??

http://www.psychicguild.com/horoscope...

message 2: by Holli (new)

Holli Since no one else wants to answer....I will :) When I was growing up I really didn't think I was a Pisces (I seemed more like a Virgo back then) but as I got into my 30's I started resembling a Pisces more and more. I'm much more scattered and dreamy now and I'm into my creative sideinstead of my controlling side. I agree with this statement from the link above "Life Pursuit: To avoid feeling alone and instead feel connected to others and the world at large". I think that's very true for me! They say Pisces tends to feel they are living two very different paths in life and I have often felt that way over the years.

message 3: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (missbrittany) | 336 comments i don't follow or even consider astrology, and after reading the bit on mine, i am even less apt to follow it.

the only part i read that was true of me was a desire for higher intellectual and spiritual understanding.

Im pisces but I don't know that I subscribe to it. I never really read my horoscope so I cant say I follow it. They are fun to look at when I run across them, kind of like fortune cookies but I think that is about as much faith as I put in them.

message 5: by Holli (last edited Aug 11, 2008 09:27AM) (new)

Holli I don't put any faith in my horoscope.....I feel the same way about those Tera (the fun fortune cookie) but I feel the way they describe a Pisces personality fits me to a T. I've always been more interested in the personality part of it than the "what's going to happen this month" for me. i think thats just a bunch of nonsense....fun but nonsense!!! :)

message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments It is fun nonsense!!! I have a great time with it and I even went through a phase once where I did my own birth chart and considered getting a degree in Astrology. For me, I think Astrology certainly can't determine who you are or what your future will hold, but when you look at your birth chart or a description of your sign, it can often give you new perspective on an issue you're having in your life. Same way with tarot cards. I certainly don't think they can tell the future, but getting a card reading done is a neato way to look a a problem from a new angle. Fun, fun, fun!

a great site to get your entire birth chart for free.

message 7: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments Holli, I just looked at the site you posted. Very cool! It said this about me: What Librans always have to remember when looking to fulfil their dreams is they should never undermine their own integrity and hold out until their dreams do come true - not simply take whatever is offered.

It's true about me. I have high demands when it comes to the things I want and I usually hold out for something great. And I've always been disappointed when I settle. Not that this doesn't apply to non-Libras, but like I said, astrology is a fun way to gain some perspective. :)

message 8: by Sydney (new)

Sydney (sydneyh) See, while I don't put any stock in horoscopes, I really do have a lot of the qualities of my star sign. I'm a Leo. I'm a born leader... I like to be in charge, make my own rules.
From the site Holli posted...

"Love triumphs over all for this sign, which is ruled by the heart and operates from this dimension too. Leo's are born fortunate. Charismatic and positive-thinking they attract not only an abundance of friends and opportunities, but manage to survive life's stormy times with style and good humour.

Once a Lion is committed to a relationship, they are totally devoted and faithful. Should their heart or trust be broken they never forgive or forget. .... For a Leo, when a relationship is over, really over, it is over for good. "

Really this is the best description of a Leo I've read!

But I also believe that horoscopes are a bunch of hooey. :-)

message 9: by Tera, First Chick (new)

Tera | 2564 comments Mod
I think that for the most part people can take the traits of any of them and apply them to themselves at a particular stage or time in their lives.
I used to read them to my friends and totally switch around their signs as I read them and you should have heard them oohhing and aahhing how that was "so me" or "yeah thats true". Then we all laughed when I told them I read a totally off the base sign to them.
Fun ways to mess with your friends #219

message 10: by Emily (new)

Emily (ejfalke) | 576 comments *SNICKER* You funny, Tera.

What it had for Virgo is different from what I am used to seeing - I haven't seen the emphasis on creative before. I think it fit alright except for that. I am in a service field, so that fits.

message 11: by Tish (new)

Tish | 59 comments Holli--just looked at the site you posted.Pretty cool. I used to read my horoscope on a daily basis. Have not done so in a couple of years. I am a Leo and the site has a good description of a Leo.

message 12: by Holli (new)

Holli Although I don't make decisions based off of my daily horoscope I do like to read it every day and I actually have 3 different ones emailed to me! I just think its interesting how sometimes its way off or really vague and then other days its completely right on and true to what I'm dealing with at the time. I have ALWAYS loved reading the different personalities of the signs and seeing if I thought my friends (or the guy I was dating!!) matched what it was saying. I grew up with a mom who had wanted to be a para-psychologist when she was younger so all things supernatural were up for discussion in my house. :) Some people are just more practical in their lives and that's ok too.

message 13: by Holli (new)

Holli Amanda~~~~ I love the occasional tarot card reading and fortune teller too (my mom, grandma, and I used to go once a year all together and make it a family outing!!) and at one reading the psychic whispered something in my ear that only I knew and told me what would happen. When my mom asked what she said I lied because I didn't want her to know my secret.......what the psychic told me would happen did happen and that was the start of 3 other psychics being COMPLETELY correct about something in my future. Eerie huh?

message 14: by Holli (new)

Holli I've probably alienated myself from half of the group by divulging my affinity for the paranormal but it's something I've always been curious about and something that's been a part of my life my entire life. I'm not ashamed of it anymore and I hope I haven't offended anyone by speaking about it. :)

message 15: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I am a Taurus and I think it goes with my personality :) I'm glad I was born in May. It's got the best sign and gem.

message 16: by Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (last edited Aug 13, 2008 05:53AM) (new)

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I don't believe you've alienated yourself from anyone Holli! I think it's something that we're all curious about at one point or another! I have been about this and a lot of other stuff!

I've got no prob with the occassional tarot card reading, though the only person who's ever been dead on without a peep from me is one of my BFF's Deserie (I had readings from her before we were friends).

While I'm on the cusp of Taurus and Gemini, I was born a month early and therefore, Cancer fits me nearly to a t! (From that site you linked us to ~)
"Your element: Water
Your ruling planets: The Moon
Symbol: The Crab
Your stone: Moonstone
Life Pursuit: Constant reassurance and intimacy
Vibration: Moody
Cancer's Secret Desire: To feel safe (emotionally, spiritually, romantically and financially)"

"Those born under the sign of Cancer, ruled by the mysterious Moon, are one of the zodiac's enigmas. It is fair to say that most Cancers are a bundle of contradictions. Compassionate and caring with friends, family and lovers, yet they can cut to the bone with their jealous remarks and ever-changing moods. Endearingly eccentric on one hand, and on the other, insecure about how others see them. Like their astrological symbol - the Crab - Cancers can appear hard and insensitive on the outside. However, for those of us who know and love a "Moon Child", we understand that deep below lies a softness and sensitivity that makes them so very special...

Just as the Moon goes through many changes as it moves from its new to full phases, Cancers too go through many new and full phases of experience. Life doesn't stand still for this sign, even if they remain in one place, because they live so much in their internal oceans of emotions. Their link with the Moon often makes it impossible for them to operate on an even keel from day to day. Up and down like the proverbial yo-yo, most Cancerians feel one way one minute, then sometimes totally different the next. But this characteristic is part of their charm."

The site you linked us to has me as a Gemini but all that fits me from this one is ~

"Those Twins that don't have the 'gift of the gab' are usually talented writers" (though I'm not sure if I'm talented!).

I fit more of the Taurus on this site ~
"Your element: Earth
Your ruling planets: Venus
Symbol: The Bull
Your stone: Emerald
Life Pursuit: Emotional and financial security
Vibration: Determined energy
Taurus Secret Desire: To have a secure, happy and wealthy life/marriage."

"Underneath their cool, calm and collected exterior, Taureans differ greatly from all the other signs of the zodiac. Taureans manage to discreetly stay apart from the crowd, even though they have a well-earned reputation for being socialisers. They will let others get close, but only so close as they want them. Some claim that trying to get your point across to a Taurean, should they not want to hear you, is rather similar to talking to the trees – they simply won't budge. And, there is no such thing as an open-book Taurean. Their feelings, fears and desires often run far deeper than anyone around them would guess. Like the butterfly that chooses to remain hidden in its cocoon until it is ready and prepared to emerge, so the true Taurean spirit remains hidden behind a veneer of day-to-day activities. That's why Taureans are sometimes regarded as snobby, withdrawn, boring, or even sulky.

The truth is, when Taureans manage to operate very adequately on their own form of automatic pilot, they can switch off from the world around them very efficiently. And when they do switch off, they are actually gathering in their inner reserves to deal with the outside pressures. This sign is also very closely connected to 'feeling good'. Most Taureans like their creature comforts and hate change because it takes them out of their automatic pilot condition of separating themselves from the world around them.

Because they hate to be put in jeopardy of any kind, this is the sign that strives to create tomorrow in advance, rather than leave it to fate. In love, Taureans are regarded as extremely sensual beings. An earth sign, they deal well with the personal, physical senses and consequently all the pleasures associated with what they can see, touch, smell and taste, add up to a special delight to them. Often nature and pet lovers, Taureans are closely associated with all things off the earth and nature."

I'm a gardener and therefore it's no wonder my ruling planets are the Earth and Moon!

message 17: by Holli (new)

Holli I can see you as all three Jo! That's funny! But mainly I picture you as the perfect Taurus....from what I know of your personality thru this group and from our conversations every day on instant messenger you really epitomize Taurus for me. Loving the earth...feeling a deep connection with it....you are loyal and steadfast....true to your beliefs and opinions.....I love Taurus women. My aunt and my cousin are Taurus ladies and they make me feel safe and warm and loved when I'm with them

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Aaaaawwwww! Thank you Holli!! I think I'm both Taurus and Cancer! (I've never really felt being a Gemini!)

Kim (kmdoubleday) I'm glad you guys liked it!

My favorite is 'calm, but seething'.

It's almost become my mantra. :)

message 23: by Tabatha (new)

Tabatha (lylathewicked) | 69 comments I think yes it does. I'm a Pisces and there's no doubt about it. I don't often get along very well with other Pisces but I find myself and other Pisces just can't help but try. LOL. Lots of passion and love to give. But very emotional.

message 24: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 354 comments Holli, I totally dig the paranormal stuff....have a bookshelf full of paranormal fiction to prove it.

Have you ever watched John Edward? The psychic dude, not the political one. He really intrigues me. He talks about how we are "visited" more often then we realize.....in dreams, seeing something out of the corner of our eye, cold spots.....
I've had enough dreams that fit the bill to stat to believe it may be true.

Does that make sense or am I being too vague?

message 25: by Susan (new)

Susan | 5 comments Hi, I just joined you all this week and I'm really enjoying this "non-book-related" chat as well as the comments on great books that you're read.

I have always identifies with my sun Sigh, Taurus. I'm fond of saying that I come by my stubborness naturally as a Taurus born in the Chinese year of the Ox!

Mot of the people in my life bear much resemblance to their Sun Signs. A friend once did my whol chart and told me that I have Gemini rising and that my moon is in Scorpio. I still don't know completely what to make of this extra information, but I'm curious to learn more.

Thanks for the open invitation to join. I had to stop going to my women's book group a couple of years ago and have ben looking foranother god way to connect with women over books ever since.

Holli Teri~~~~we must trade stories one day on this subject----I would love to hear yours! Boy every time we chat I find more and more in common with you!

Roxy~~~~I have watched John Edward and have been to 2 of his shows live. Loved it both times.....the urgency and energy he has to get out what he needs to tell people is astounding in person. I have had dreams of being visited by my grandpa and I can tell when they are real or not (sometimes he's just in my dreams other dreams I can still feel him with me when I wake up) and just this morning as I was washing my face someone peered around the corner of the doorway at me.....I caught it quickly and then they were gone. I would say it was a man in tan clothes....

message 27: by Holli (new)

Holli Yes Teri.....I thought John Edward was amazing also. We found out later at both shows he put on for us in our town that we could have stayed afterwards and he may have had something to say to us. I would have loved that :)

message 28: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 354 comments Holli, I am so jealous. I'd love to go to a JE show! i've looked into it a few times but then couldn't bring my self to pay that much for tickets, travel to where ever and then potentiallly not be read or whatever you call it.
did you get read at either of his shows?

message 29: by Holli (new)

Holli No :( it was very disappointing. He was actually in the town I grew up in in California twice so both times my mom, grandma, and I went hoping to be read. Each time we left without a peep from our dead relatives. Rude!! lol

message 30: by Silvia (last edited Aug 21, 2008 06:17PM) (new)

Silvia (silverware) | 24 comments Hey Holli! I'm a Piesces as well. I did find that the dreamer, head in the clouds descrition of the imaginative fish fit me. Perhaps it was just coincidence?

I used to rely on horoscopes when I felt I had no control over my life. So if the Zodiac said it was a bad day, it was going to be a bad day based on the stars. It had nothing to do with my actions or attitude towards that day. I used to check my zodiac every day. It was a bit of a compulsion.

Now,once in a blue moon I get the urge to check my horoscope. BUT! I do something a little different. I look for a horoscope for that day on several websites and I pick the best one that is in favour of that day. So now, I never have a bad 1 star newspaper horoscope. They are all 5 stars because I make them that way :D

message 31: by Holli (new)

Holli Ah another fellow Pisces! Hey there Silvia :) I love your strategy with your horoscope reading. I'm going to have to try that soon!!
