Heidi Yes Peep - they are going to begin shooting the movie version of Like Water for Elephants in June and it is going to star Reece as Marlena, Robert as Jacob, and Sean Pean as August. Those are totally not ANY of the actors I pictured while reading the book! Oh well - they are still good. Isn't it weird how you picture certain actors for parts when you are reading a book? Also - SEE we can all agree on a good book when it is well written!!!!

message 602: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Ugh! SKIP!!!!!!! I've got nothing but bad things to say so I won't say them. I'm disappointed. Who was August?

message 603: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Oh was that Marlena's hubby?

message 604: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep wrote: "Ugh! SKIP!!!!!!! I've got nothing but bad things to say so I won't say them. I'm disappointed. Who was August?"

Yes - August was her hubby in the book. It is very weird casting to me too! None of those 3 actors were who I pictured. I will definitely check reviews of it before I even bother watching it.

Lana (lanajeany) | 17 comments Laura wrote: "The Help was very good! oh, and so far I am enjoying City of Bones though I am only on page 110.
:-D"

I didn't like City of Bones much but I always feel compelled to finish a series if I start. I have to say, the second book is much better and the third book I really liked. So if you're a fast reader and you have the time, I would try to finish the series. I thought the third book was worth it. And I definitely agree with you - skimming is key. =) I think I skimmed most of Stephanie Meyer's books!

message 606: by Lana (new)

Lana (lanajeany) | 17 comments I've never read any of Sarah Dessen's books before (they seemed a bit TOO young for me), but I picked up "Lock and Key" at the library and couldn't put it down! I thought it was really good. Has anyone else read any of Sarah Dessen's other books? Are they good?

I also finished Shannon Hale's "Book of Thousand Days". I thought it was a beautiful fairytale. Definitely a younger read, but the writing was lyrical.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments So under Heidi's advice I did start The Book Thief. I'm only 50 pages in but so far I'm really enjoying it... but also wishing I spoke a bit of German.

message 608: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) @ Lana - I didn't really like Sara Dessen but Just Listen is pretty popular. I read it and gave it 5 stars

Now Shannen Hale I really like! You HAVE to read The Goose Girl. It's practically required reading.

@ Brittany - you'll learn all the bad German words you need to know by the end of that book. It's really good though!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments @ Peep, oh good, I always wanted to be able to cuss someone out in German. Now if only I could pronounce the words and perfect the accent.

Heidi Brittany wrote: "So under Heidi's advice I did start The Book Thief. I'm only 50 pages in but so far I'm really enjoying it... but also wishing I spoke a bit of German."

Yeah!!!! So excited for you. Just for fun you should go to audible.com or amazon and listen to the sample of the audiobook -- I had Peep do that -- the narrator has a German accent and he made the book even better! I loved that audiobook. Anyway - just do it saumench :)

message 611: by Heidi (new)

Heidi p.s. can't wait to see who they cast for the Book Thief movie.

I bet on audiobook it is even better because Georgia is just, I don't know, awesomness! Glad you like it.

I have read most of Sarah Dessen and I really enjoyed all of them - some more than others (Just Listen, Along for the Ride) but I think she is a pretty safe bet.

I like Shannon Hale too! I listened to part of Sara Dressen's Along for the Ride on audio and gave up - I didn't care about the main character or her family. p.s. I wish everyone could hear The Book Thief on audiobook, because you would be saying the bad German words to yourself like the narrator said them. Saumench actually sounds like it starts with a "z" like Zaowwmench (like Chairman Mao, but with a Z).

I will when I get home from work. It sounds interesting. then I really can curse in German. My father would be so proud!

Jamie - the narrator is excellent with her British accent -- you NEED to go to audible. com to hear a sample! I can't believe she did that to her eyebrows! I like how she said she was really ugly and needed to go into an "ugly home"! I own both the Bridget Jones books on audio (and paperback), and it totally reminds me of it.

I don't know if I love Libby more or Angus. They are great. Nickelodian did make a movie out of the first book - changed up a lot of things but it's still fun. They called it Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snoggin. Although I think Georgia is a bit prettier than the girl cast.

Sally (sallykake) | 1 comments Heidi wrote: "Peep wrote: "I am finding it very hard to finish Thirteen Reasons Why. Heidi was it you who couldn't finish it?"

Heidi wrote: "Emily wrote: "Heidi wrote: "You got farther than I did on City of Bones - I got to page 100 and threw it on the floor. Triple Ugh :)"

I had a hard time finishing 13 Reasons Why too, but there was some satisfaction in the last part even though most of the book was so disturbing. It didn't make it easier to take, but took the edge off (the ending). Interesting format for the story.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments So Heidi, I went to Audible.com and listened to the sample. The narrator makes a great Death. So formal, just how you would think. I'm still going old school and reading it though. Now back to the German.

I saw the movie on amazon - wonder if it is on Netflix stream. I will check! p.s. the cover of the movie has a much prettier girl than I am picturing for Georgia.

Maybe it's because I have read all ten and she tarts it up big time as they keep going. Or as Georgia would say she increased her beautification and glamosity as part of her new found maturosity while chasing (oo-re) the sex god, Phwoooaar!

message 625: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments I just wish I owned all of them - I checked out most from the library and now I find I really want to reread them. She is just so funny and has the best made up vocabulary around.

message 626: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) It's at the library in the next town over. I'll have to pick it up on my next trip there.

message 627: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Yes Peep! It is totally your thing too :)

message 628: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments Just finished The Maze Runner by James Dashner. Fantastic book.

message 629: by Traci (new)

Traci So I'm about 150 pages into Uglies and it's not so bad.. I think the idea is pretty interesting, but the names could be more creative. Uglyville? New Pretty Town? .. yeeeeah. But other than that at least it's keeping my attention :]

message 630: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments The town names are all part of creating the theme of the series. Westerfeld does it all on purpose. I really like Uglies and its sister novels.

message 631: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Just started Life As We Knew It (Moon, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer last night. Yeah! I finished Graceling and The Thief and liked both.

This is on my TBR list. I've been wanting to read it but it's only available for sale so far. Do you think it's worth buying?

message 633: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ignoring all comments about new books. Ignoring all comments about new books. Ignoring all comments about new books. Oh sorry! I am just practicing.

message 634: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Bluemoon - after I read the books I have at home I plan to get Incarceron from my library. Hope to read it in April sometime. I will not add anymore books until I read at least 2 or 3 more! I will not!

Yes!

message 636: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ignoring Kellee. Ignoring Kellee. I have no control. I want to add The Maze Runner. Help!

message 637: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Heidi, how's about I add it, then I'll tell you in about 3 to 4 weeks that you should add it? How's that for a compromise?

message 638: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Kellee wrote: "Yes!"

I'll probably pick it up when I go in town this week and add it to my already too long currently reading list.

message 639: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Sounds good Peep :)

message 640: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Just finished rereading the Vampire Academy books (kind of skimmed blood promise because it wasn't too long ago I read it for the first time) and now am half way through Gone (Wake trilogy) and I am not very into it. Trying to decide if I should just push through b/c its not very long or start on the Nanny Returns.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I personally wasn't a huge fan of The Maze Runner. It was okay I guess, but I thought it was super slow going. I got it from the library and I wouldn't buy it.

I am apparently in the minority here, but those were my thoughts. That being said, I will most likely read the sequel, if for no other reason than to figure out what on earth is going on (because I STILL have no idea)... that and be prepared for yet another cliffhanger ending.

message 642: by Traci (new)

Traci Just finished Uglies.. it was pretty good. I'd probably give it 3.5.. And to quote Brittany right above me, "yet another cliffhanger ending" that leaves me excited to start the next one, Pretties, tomorrow morning.

I've heard The Maze Runner mentioned many times but I've never even looked into it.. hm. Maybe I should do that

message 643: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Going to start The Dead-Tossed Waves :)

message 644: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Bluemoon wrote: "ooooo....let me know if it's good"

Will do! I've heard the protagonist in this one is more likable than in Hands and Teeth... So that should make it more enjoyable :)

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments The Maze Runner is Absolutely worth buying. It's one of my new favorite books.

message 646: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Orlich Ahern (kittymeowxcore) | 56 comments I just finished Stopping Time, Part 1 (Wicked Lovely) by Melissa Marr and Stopping Time, Part 2 (Wicked Lovely) by Melissa Marr .

Right now I'm reading Search for Senna (Everworld, #1) by Katherine Alice Applegate .

message 647: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Amanda - is "Stopping Time" separate from the Wicked Lovely series? I am confused.

message 648: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Bluemoon wrote: "Jamie: Did you read Wake yet? was it any good?"

Yeah I read Wake and really liked it and then read Fade and it was just okay. I guess I think she should have probably stopped after Wake. But the new trend in YA is to make a series out of everything. Not that I don't love series.

message 649: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Jaimie - I totally agree - not everything needs to be a series. In fact I wish some of these YA books were stand alone books, because it is really hard to find time to read the first book - let alone a whole series. p.s. I am also in a cozy mystery group and cozies notoriously have 10-20 books in each series, so I can't escape the series!
