Stephanie | 3 comments Hello all,

Well, I just finished reading the darkest powers trilogy which I really enjoyed and I am now going through the Vampire Academy series which I loved! I am looking for a new series in the same vein but I m not sure where to look....Suggestions welcome :)

Heidi Lani wrote: "I just finished Sloppy Firsts and will start Second Helpings today. I like the series so far. I like how the main character is unapologetic about who she is."

Lani - I liked the first book too and have Second Helpings at home to read.

Heidi Bluemoon wrote: "LAURA: how did you like Shutter Island?"

I really liked it myself Bluemoon. It is very suspenseful and you never know what is real of imagined, but it is not for everyone. p.s. I am a Dennis Lehane fan, so I am partial.

Rachel Seigel (rachelns) | 3 comments I've just started twenty boy summer. So far it's a great read. Not as fluffy as it sounds.

message 1055: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished The Summoning and it had a cliffhanger ending so now I have to read the next one, The Awakening. I like the series so far!

You might like the Blue Bloods books or the Morganville Vampires series. I wouldn't say that I found either series to be amazing but they are certainly entertaining.

message 1058: by [deleted user] (new)

Bluemoon - I may not have to wait for the last book of the Darkest Powers trilogy but I have to wait until December for the last book of the Fever series! Argh!

message 1059: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments And we all have to wait til August for Mockingjay.

message 1060: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I just picked up Fire (The Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, #2) by Kristin Cashore and I'm excited to start reading it. I may have to put Alice on hold for the next couple of days.

message 1061: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Becca! I just got the Fire audio book last night and hope to start it after I finish the Giver today :)

message 1062: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments anyone read Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green ? Is it bad that I kind of want to read every other chapter (j.green's) and then maybe go back and read the others?

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments I just finished The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare , beautiful. I'm getting ready to start Sabriel (The Abhorsen Trilogy, #1) by Garth Nix .

message 1064: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't wait to read Fire! I was going to read it after I finished The Summoning but now I'm reading the second book of this trilogy, The Awakening.

message 1065: by Heidi (last edited Apr 23, 2010 01:11PM) (new)

Heidi Mandi - I plan to read Sabriel. Update me when you are done please :)

I just blew right through the first two, but had to wait a few weeks for The Reckoning. It was worth the wait.

message 1069: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read the first 4 books of the Fever series twice! It is my favorite series. Now, I'm just waiting until December for the final book. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Read it! :)

I was diappointed too with the way it ended. I didn't know there was a third book coming out. Hopefully that book will be better.

message 1073: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I am just starting The Case of the Missing Marquess (Enola Holmes Mysteries, #1) by Nancy Springer on audio. Someone on here recommended it. Sorry I can't keep track of who recommends things (unless they are really pushy - you know who you are!)

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I finally finished reading Gone (it was a beast of a book) and I liked it. Started reading Incarceron today. I'm hoping for good things!

message 1075: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Brittany - I still have Incareron at home from the library, so please update after you start!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Well, I've read 2 chapters so far today and it's been good, but I'm still trying to figure everything out. As I get deeper into the book I'll let you know.

This is going to have to be a super fast read for me (and I'm really slow compared to most of you) b/c I have to get it back to the library by Tuesday as the hold list is huge. I've had it for a while, but I had already started Gone so I wanted to finish that first.

message 1077: by Heidi (last edited Apr 24, 2010 06:39PM) (new)

Heidi Didn't Gone seem huge to you? I actually read it super fast because it was an easy read - I think it took 3 to 4 days - but I thought it was going to take forever.

message 1078: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) I am about to start The House of the Scorpion. I am pretty excited to read another dystopian YA novel.

message 1079: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Kellee that books sounds crazy. Please update when you are done!

message 1080: by Meredith (new)

Meredith (meredithreads) | 2 comments I finished Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy last week. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the movie! Does it do the book justice?

I recently read Luna, a really great book about a transgender teen. I'm about to start Numbers by Rachel Ward.

I wish goodreads had a spot when you could list who recommend it.

Yes, definitely huge, but I'm hoping for good things from Hunger and Lies. I think it's worth it, and yes, an easy read.

You can list who recommended it on the options portion when you add a book, but I just figured that out, so just started using it.

Pv Lundqvist | 3 comments Becca wrote: "The Hobbit is really great background information like Laura said and its written differently than LOTR. I loved both stories, and would recommend the Hobbit first, but if you don't have it, don't ..."

I agree completely. I reread it, recently, and couldn't believe how much I'd forgotten. Much more of a kid's book than the LOTR series. Fans of the series should read it if only to learn how the ONE RING was found.

message 1089: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (roses7184) Just finished reading "Thirteen Reasons Why". So sad, but so good! Now I am reading "Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale". Loving my new library selection!

Roshini Rachel wrote: "I've just started twenty boy summer. So far it's a great read. Not as fluffy as it sounds."

Hi Rachel, let me know how you find the book. It's finally available here and I'm debating whether to buy it or not.

message 1091: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Yea! Three books I preordered have shipped from amazon (and their release date is not even until tomorrow) and I will be in reading bliss for the next week. I still have a couple books to reread before they arrive so I will be busy this week!

message 1092: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I can't even keep up with my old books Jaimie!

message 1093: by Jaimie (last edited Apr 26, 2010 11:25AM) (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments my books per week ratio has gone down the last couple of weeks. I don't know if it is because of this group, friends coming into town over the weekends, or because most of the books I have been reading lately are rereads and those are always a bit slow for me.

message 1094: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) currently reading the last book in The Chronicles of Prydain, which are amazing:
The High King (Chronicles of Prydain, #5) by Lloyd Alexander

next up:
The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner Sabriel (The Abhorsen Trilogy, #1) by Garth Nix Unwind by Neal Shusterman

message 1095: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I loved the Prydain series!

I'm currently listening to The Ruins of Gorlan and really enjoying it.
