I read a few disappointing books,(Reboot) before this and was very happy with the change of pace with this book. It is so different in a good way! I am still reading it, but really liking it!

I agree, it was difficult, and often repetitive; however, I loved Sam's personal journey and seeing her mature into a better person.

I still have it on audio and if I ever run out of books to listen to, I may turn it back on, but mostly because of the narrator. Loved her!

Victoria (vc1993) | 4 comments Hello. I am currently reading the first book in the Game of Thrones series, almost finished it and cannot wait to read A Clash Of Kings next.

Also reading the Douglas Adams Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series too. On book 3. It can be confusing at times but very funny. Listen to the audiobook read by Douglas Adams himself on Youtube, just amazing!

Not sure what to read next?

message 14124: by Marie (new)

Marie | 16 comments These past days, I read for the first time Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling and it was a really nice experience. It took me a while to get used to the writting style and to undertsand Hagrid (the way he talks in french translation was much easier to understand to me) and also to realize who was who (names aren't all the sames in the french translation) and get used to the ''wizzard'' vocabulary in english but in the end, it was great. I have to say however, that while I usually don't like translations in french and think that the people who did Harry Potter did an AMAZING job. I don't say this often but Harry Potter's translation is just as good as the original in my opinion.

I also read Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler and at first I loved it and loved the main character ( I related a lot to her) but then BAM!The main character became so annoying that I couldn't stand the book. She's one of the most selfish character I've read about.

Then, for the last book in my 2013 challenge (read 130 books/shorts story, graphic novels), I chose A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin . I was really scared but exited when I started it because, I wasn't a big fan of the tv show. I liked but I got bored after a few episoded and I was never able to get back into it (I felt lost because a lot of times had passed and I didn't remeber that much about what I had seen).
I was also scared that I wouldn't be able to get use to the writing style since it's an adult book and when I read the prologue I thought I wouldn't be able to get throught the book because I was so confused. I didn't undertsand what was going on, who was who....The writting was so descriptive... but then I read the first chapter and all my issues with the prologue were gone and I just couldn't stop reading! It's amazing.

I am glad that I've watch most of the tv show because it really help visualize the characters, the places and everything and I would probably be a little lost without it. I'll probably watch the rest of the tv shows before I read the other books ( I don't have the money to buy the big paperpacks editions that I love and I hate mass market), even if I know that thinks started to get a little (or a lot) different from the books in season 2 and 3. I still think it'll help me understand the books better.

I've been debating whether or not to read GoT before or after I watch the TV series (so far, I've done neither), but I think I will take your advice and watch the TV series first--or at least an episode or two. I, also, like having a visual. Don't get me wrong--I always recommend reading the book before the movie/TV show, but I think this will be an exception!

message 14126: by Paula (new)

Paula Williams (daystealer) | 43 comments I watched the first season of GoT before reading the books and am glad I did. It helped keep the characters (the MANY characters) straight. I bought his last book but haven't read it. I want the shows to catch up to me--and I'm pretty sure he isn't in a rush to write his next one soon. So far, I love the show more than the books but I liked knowing what was going to happen (wedding scene) before it aired.

Ah, ah loll. Yeah, I think it's a good way to get into the GOT world.

Anyway, So I finished A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin and I loved it. I even cried and I almost never cry reading a book.
I also finished Deception (Defiance, #2) by C.J. Redwine and I loved it too. The first 100 pages were a little boring but it was worth it in the end.

I also read How They Met, and Other Stories by David Levithan and I liked it but It wasn't what expected. I expected a collection of short stories about hot some people met and I guess it was that kind of book but at some points it almost felt like I was reading a book about a day in the life of different homosexual teenagers instead of how people met. I wouldn't have minded a book about homosexuality at all, only if just wasn't what I expected and what I was in the mood for so I was a little disappointed.

I don't know yet what I'll read next but it could be Lies (Gone, #3) by Michael Grant

The Body Finder (The Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting

I've also been slowly making my way through The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey and I'm liking it so far.

message 14141: by Nana (new)

Nana (marsh113) | 10 comments I'm almost finish
The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

It's a bit similar to Along for the Ride. However, I like Wes and Macy and their Truth game.

After this, I'm gonna read A Midsummer's Nightmare by Kody Keplinger

message 14142: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished up Unsolved by J.P. Collins which was pretty good, especially for a self-published book.

Also just finished reading Awoken by Serra Elinsen which is objectively bad but very enjoyable book. It's ridiculous to the point where you have no choice but to enjoy it.

Now I need to decide what to read next.

I'm liking it. I can definitely see the anti-religion sentiment that has caused so much controversy, but as an adventure story, it's a lot of fun.
