Leana (craftychick) | 55 comments I should finish Beautiful Creatures - love it by the way! - tonight. So I am going to start on the first book in the Wonderous Strange series by Lesley Livingston. Not too sure what it's about other than faeries. But it looks really good and the 2nd one came out not too long ago so I am sure I will read that one soon after!

Rhonda (helpmerhonda72) I really liked Beautiful Ceatures as well. I think Ethan is great!!

message 303: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellezink) | 168 comments I had been taking a break from YA for a few weeks (just read The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters and finishing Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood - both amazing!) but am getting ready to start Fire by Kristin Cashore. Have heard so many great things about it!

message 304: by Traci (new)

Traci Just finished John Green's Looking for Alaska and I'm going to start Leftovers by Laura Weiss. It seems like everyone is talking about Fire and Graceling lately and I don't know anything about them! I will definitely have to look into it :]

I loved that series and eagerly waiting the latest book. I'm sure you'll love it! The first book of Vampire Academy was also good. Good stuff waiting for you! :)

message 306: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I am reading The Knife of Never Letting Go and listening to Shiver on audiobook.

message 307: by Leana (last edited Jan 06, 2010 08:44PM) (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 55 comments I LOVE Shiver! What do you think of it so far Heidi? I think Maggie has a really well written story with it! She is pretty talented for sure!

Finished Beautiful Creatures last night - LOVED It - and started Wondrous Strange. Only a chapter in but already really liking the characters so far!

Rochelle (itsmechelly) | 45 comments Has anyone picked up The Secret Year by Jennifer Hubbard?

Have you read "Graceling" yet? I liked both books a lot but "Graceling was my favorite.

message 310: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellezink) | 168 comments I started reading Graceling but never finished it. I KNOW it's not the book's fault because everyone I know has raved about it. I think I was in a reading slump because, at the time, I had about five books that I put aside! I'll give it another go, for sure, and it's still right by my bedside on my TBR pile!

message 312: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda (helpmerhonda72) Shiver: I loved this book, There were times I'm not sure I remembered to breathe, and the end.......(sigh)
I can't wait for Linger.

message 313: by Randi (new)

Randi | 2 comments I'm starting Enna Burning; the second book in the books of Bayern series by Shannon Hale.

message 314: by Leana (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 55 comments Shiver was my 2nd fav book I read in 2009! My first fav was Lament also by Maggie.

Agree Rhonda. So can't wait for Linger!

Randi - Shannon Hale is a local author here in Salt Lake and I haven't read any of her books! I saw her once at a book signing before I knew who she was. I have a few of her books but have never read them. But I hear nothing but good things about her! I may have to move them up my TBR list!

message 315: by Alisha (new)

Alisha Burtt | 2 comments i just finished The Demon King by Cinda Chima like 5 minutes ago and loved it!!!!!

What do you think of Knife? It takes a bit to get used to when it first starts, but it sucked me in bigtime! Both books in that series were awesome, and I'm dying for the third one coming out in May.

I loved Shiver too, and have forced my copy on two of my friends already. I have Linger on pre-order with Amazon!

Angela - I did the same thing with Shiver and they ended up loving it to! You totally have to read Lament. I read Shiver first and then Lament and ended up liking Lament even more. I didn't think it was possible.

I there, I read Hush, Hush not that long ago and I felt the same way. After finishing it I really felt like it had the "first book syndrome", I liked it, I wanted to love it, but I will wait until the 2nd one comes out to truly judge the series. Good luck.

Angela - I have about 100 pages of The Knife Of Never Leting Go left and I am now hooked into it. You recommend the second book - right? I have 2 CD's left of Shiver (out of 9 total) and it is starting to get really good. When I started both books I did not think I would like them, but now they are great.

message 320: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda (helpmerhonda72) "Hush Hush", it got kind of Nancy Drewish for me, and her friend was annoying.

message 321: by Leana (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 55 comments I keep hearing that about Hush, Hush. I have held off buying it. Waiting for paperback.

message 322: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda (helpmerhonda72) wait for PB! Sams club here has them for $11. I just sold mine on ebay for more than I paid, go figure.

message 323: by Leana (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 55 comments I took about 8 hardbacks that I had got for Christmas back to B&N and bought them as ebooks and was able to get three more because of the price difference! I was pretty excited! Totally love ebooks! My Nook will be here tomorrow :D. So can't wait! Off to make a case for it!

message 324: by Tracy74 (new)

Tracy74 ok...So I've now read the 3 greatest books in a row this year...Lament, Ballad and Shiver! I just finished Shiver an hour ago and I could have read it again, I loved it that much.
Anyway - I'm not sure where to go now. I started reading the Vampire Academy Books and stopped in the middle of Shadow Kiss to start (the above 3). So do I go back to Shadow Kiss and finish the series???? Hummm I also just requested The Dark Divine from the library and that should be in this week.

Any thoughts ?

message 325: by Leana (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 55 comments You changed your profile pic. It's super cute! I had to completely read something out of the normal paranormal romance I generally read after finishing the 3 books. So I don't know what to tell you :D. I went for fantasy YA, but was also looking at reading kids fantasy. I ended up reading Allana by Tamara Pierce and liked it. Haven't read any more of the series yet, but it was good to switch it up to that I think. I was going to read the first Fablehaven book that I have had forever. Still haven't read it.

Not sure if this helps or not. Sorry!

message 329: by Stephanie (new)

I have only read the one book by her but I want to read more. Once I finish the Alanna series I will deffinitely read the Bekka Cooper series now :D. Thanks for the recomendation!

Stephanie wrote: "I am reading the Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare and it is REALLY good. I have just started the third and final book of the series and it just keeps getting better. I can't put it down...."

Stephanie - I was really excited to see that Cassandra Clare is actually going to continue the series! There will be a set of prequals (I think about Clary's mom and Valentine and stuff) and then a run off of the Mortal Instruments with one of the character's story continuing! So it won't be directly about Clary but the story isn't over :D!!! Can't wait!

message 331: by Stephanie (last edited Jan 11, 2010 06:18PM) (new)

Stephanie | 3 comments Thanks Michelle- I had not idea more were coming out! Definitely something to look forward too :)
Another good read I' recommend is 'Graceling' but many of you already mentioned it.

message 332: by Traci (new)

Traci the prequels to the Mortal Instruments are actually set in the 1800s.. it's about a downworlder (not specified yet, but I think she's a warlock) named Tessa, I guess Magnus is really the only character that will be familiar, but she says you will hear familiar family names. The prequels are called The Infernal Devices.

However, she is also continuing the Mortal Instruments, but from Simon's point of view. The fourth book will be called City of Fallen Angels :D Unfortunately, this book isn't set to come out until march 2011 :[

due to all the raves and praise, I've begun reading Shiver.. I'm about 140 pages in or so but I like it so far :]

message 333: by Leana (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 55 comments Oh that is cool Traci. I didn't know it was that long ago. I think that will make it really interesting.

I was trying not to give to much away to Stephenie about the continuation of Simon's story since she isn't finished with the last book yet :D

Glad you like Shiver. I think Maggie S. wrote the book beautifully. She has quite a way with words!

Amy | 2 comments Stephanie wrote: "I am reading the Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare and it is REALLY good. I have just started the third and final book of the series and it just keeps getting better. I can't put it down...."

The good news Stephanie is that it isn't the last book! Cassandra Clare announced that she will be writing "The city of fallen angels" but it doesn't come out until 2011. :( Her new series, (the first book I think is Clockwork Angels) comes out in the fall. I just love her stuff and you just end up loving the characters she creates.

message 338: by Wendy-Lynn (new)

Wendy-Lynn I'm reading SOME GIRLS ARE by Courtney Summers. It makes me so glad I'm not in high school anymore with all of the "clicks."

message 339: by Jill (new)

Jill | 68 comments I am a quarter of the way into Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin. I am really enjoying it. I just finished Graceling and it was fantastic. It is always hard to find a follow-up book after a really good read. I am new to YA...what books will knock me off my feet (I really love the romantic books...)?

message 340: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 1 comments I just finished reading the "Maximum RIde" series by James Patterson. it is a really interesting book. I advise poeple to read it. Super action packed with a bit of romance. And a deep love for family, along with hatered from scientists. (:

message 342: by Ann (new)

Ann | 48 comments This isn't YA really, but my sister got me Star Trek: Troublesome Minds for Christmas, so I started that :) So far it proves promising.
Star Trek Troublesome Minds by Dave Galanter

Oh, and I COMPLETELY loved Starclimber, third book in the AIRBORN series!

Chelsi | 9 comments Syren by Angie Sage (Book #5 of the Septimus Heap series). Ready to start Percy Jackson, I bought the first book a while ago and just haven't had time to read it. Gotta get it read before the movie comes out on President's day!

message 347: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Lundberg (nataliehits) | 4 comments I just started The Hunger Games. Literally just started so I'm only on page 16, but so far I like it. I've heard nothing but good things about the series.

message 348: by Jill (new)

Jill | 68 comments Just ordered Shiver, Ballad and Lament! Thanks for the suggestions. I can't wait to get started. In the meantime, I am going to read Tithe...has anyone else read this?

message 349: by Leana (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 55 comments I have read Tithe Jill! It's different. I liked it but it was an adjustment. One thing to keep in mind is that Holly Black didn't originally start out writing it as a YA novel. Her publisher convinced her it needed to be one. It gets really dark at times and is for a more mature audience. Things are more eluded to than coming right out and saying them. But it still doesn't take much to read between the lines. I haven't read the other 2 books but I want to read them. If you keep going Jill with the rest, I want to know what you think for sure :D

message 350: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (Bookworm Lisa) (letsread) | 22 comments I just finished "Oh.My.Gods". It's a fun book about a girl whose mom married a Greek man who happens to be the principal of an exclusive high school for children who are descendants of the Gods.

I started and finished in one day.
