Char (CharmaineElaine) It's a relief to know that there are people like me who haven't read the Hunger Games (Okay I'm being slightly dramatic but never mind lol). Yeah, it's probably a good idea to save some money, just ashame I didn't think of it before lol

message 108: by louise (new)

louise (monstrumology) I'm now reading Casino Royale by Ian Fleming which is unusual for me, since I have had a slight distaste for James Bond from the age of five.

I know the feeling with James Bond but my brother loves it (films and books) so I got round the problem of having to watch the movies by buying my mum a TV. =D

What's the book like?

message 111: by Char (last edited Apr 09, 2011 12:15AM) (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I've finally finished Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden and I have to admit it was pretty good, but really heavy going. So I'm going to lighten my mood by reading Rockoholic by C.J. Skuse it sounds so funny. I can't wait to read it, so I think I'm going to start lol

So any way, since I finished Rockoholic by C.J. Skuse I thought I'd just edit this post to say that I'm now reading The Hunger Games (Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins

Char (CharmaineElaine) I've finished The Hunger Games (Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins and I have to admit I'm confused at all the hype. I really didn't enjoy it, but I'm pressing on anyway and I'm now reading Catching Fire (Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins I hope it's better than the first.

Char (CharmaineElaine) I have finished Catching Fire (Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins and have started Mockingjay (Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins I thought book 2 was better than the first but still find myself hating the amount of violence (maybe it's the way the violence has been written actually)

But that is also just my opinion!! lol

message 132: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) lol, Well if it's only as good as the second then I'm not going to hold out any hope for it to be spectacular. It's fine though, I can live with slightly more than mediocre.

message 143: by Jan (new)

Jan (sigetty) | 1 comments Hi everybody. I am new to this group but I just wanted to share a book with you that I just read. It is called "One,Two...He is coming for you" by T.P.Boje. It is an e-book that I bought at amazon. It was my first e-book but I was totally blown away. If you like mystery like me I strongly recommend it. Here is the review I just posted on Amazon:

One, two ... He is coming for you is a breath taking thriller. You will never guess who the killer is! This is Scandinavian Mystery when it is best!
Rebekka Franck is a very well-known reporter in Denmark that moves back to her hometown of Karrebaeksminde. Soon after she starts her new job on a local paper the body of one of the wealthiest men in the country is found in his summer residence in the coastal town. Rebekka Franck knows him and begins to dig in his past and finds a lot of dirt on him and his friends from the same boarding school and soon she reveals a series of very dark secrets. When another man from the same boarding school is found killed she discovers the connection and the hunt for the first serial killer in Denmark has begun.
Rebekka also fights her soon to be ex-husband, who fights with all he has got to get her and their six-year old daughter back. Rebekka makes friends with her new co-worker the punk-photographer Sune and together they try to solve the mystery of who it is that is killing the rich high society men from the same boarding school. And most importantly: WHY.

This is thrilling, fascinating and very difficult to put down. And it has some really suspenseful and chillingly ugly scenes. It had me guessing all the way to the end and when I finally reached the end I did not want this story to ever stop. I LOVED IT! Now I look forward to the sequel.

Got a few going atm:
L'étranger - Albert Camus.
Le chevalier de la charrette (Lancelot) - Chrétien de Troyes
L'amour la fantasia - Assia Djebar

And in English:
Murder on Bank Street - Victoria Thompson
A Most Dangerous Woman - L. M. Jackson
Vicious Grace - M. L. N. Hanover

This is a lot of me considering I usually read my books one at a time!

message 146: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Rea - Wow I got so confused by the French ones. (They are French right? I didn't do languages at school)

I've not heard of the English ones either but A Most Dangerous Woman sure does have an interesting title! =D

message 147: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Yeah they're French! I mostly read in English but sometimes I'll go for something in French of Dutch.

Camus is of Spanish descent but he became a "French Algerian" and wrote in French.
Djebar is Algerian. She wrote in French originally as it was a way to get herself onto the world market but has since shunned the language (if I'm not mistaking her with another Algerian author) and only writes in Arabic now.
Chrétien de Troyes lived in the late 1100's. He wrote in Anglo-Norman (I think, I don't speak the language and all versions of Old French look the same to me :p) about the Knights of the Round Table. He didn't actually finish Lancelot's story and someone else finished it. He was told to what to write by the Queen, but he didn't want to write an adulterous story. All his other books feature true love.

The English ones are relatively little known. M. L. N. Hanover is the only one of the three that I found in a shop, others had to be ordered online. But he writes urban fantasy, which is very popular atm, and the name is a pseudonym for an author who already sells well under his real name.
I admit that the title A Most Dangerous Woman is what drew me to the book too :p It's Victorian mystery. I'm not sure what I think of it yet. I'll let you know my final verdict when I'm done!

message 148: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Oh wow! The French books have such history. I love history.

Haha, I'm a sucker for a good title. It's amazing what books you find online.

Anyway, I'm currently reading It Had to Be You (Gossip Girl, Prequel) by Cecily von Ziegesar which means I've nearly finished all of the Gossip Girl books. Thank God, I've been reading this series for years.

message 149: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I finished the book I was reading so I'm now on I Will Always Love You (Gossip Girl, #12) by Cecily von Ziegesar This is the last Gossip Girl book. It's going to be nice to read something different.

message 150: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I seem to be the only person commenting on what I'm reading, it's becoming like my reading diary lol, anyway I'm now reading Claudine at St. Clare's (St. Clare's, #7) by Enid Blyton which is a nice departure from all that Gossip Girl.
