What are you reading?

Cindy, what kind of books do you like to read? =D
Rennison's a good writer, even if Georgia is immature at times.
I've just noticed that book 1 spans over almost a whole year... but the other 9 take almost another whole year or something? I'm pretty sure she's still only 15 when the series is over. :/
I'm sure Jean Paul II was a wonderful man, Sara, but I rarely read non fiction.

I just noticed the exact same thing. I was like, eh? I'd never noticed that before.
I agree, I'm not a fan of non fiction. Sara, I couldn't help but notice you've been posting that exact message on a few groups, just so you know, we don't appreciate spam.

Definitely one to read guys :)

Infinite Days? I've heard of that one, I think. Who's it by Alexandra? =)

I'm also reading Le Morte D'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory, but it's sooo long and the vocabulary is soooo complex (for me, at least) that I read it bit by bit. I hope to finish it this year!
Le Morte D'Arthur is really old, though. Is it written in rhyming prose or had they moved on to full sentences by then? I've read a number of pieces of mediaeval literature, they can be quite hard because often things aren't well explained to keep the rhymes going.

At least my version is in full sentences(phew!). But still, the language is very complicated and Malory's narration is too repetitive at times :/
If it was written after the 13th century then it should be in prose. Rhyming verses were the "literature" of the 1100s. I always feel quite sorry for Guinevere. In the original Historia Regnum Britanniae there's nothing that says she went off and got it on with Lancelot, which led to Arthur's downfall. But people spotted something where they could read into it, and read into it they did. Poor woman's reputation has been tarnished ever since.

I also feel sorry for Guinevere. People loved to tarnish women's reputation, anyway. They were always the evil ones, the witches, the whores, etc.
It sounds interesting reading, but mediaeval lit is so tiring to get through.
This is very true! Well, men loved to tarnish women's reputation. It empowered them and allowed them to blame all their sins on women.

I'm on a break from it too. It's really hard going. =/

I'm going to pick it back up again... just not tomorrow. XD

I was thinking in a couple of weeks.

I've not read the Shining but Vampire Academy's okay. I'm not the biggest fan of it *remembers I'm a mod* but you should read it because it's this month's group read. XD

That's exactly how I felt about it. It had been on my tbr pile for ages though, same with Shiver for next month. XD

I am currently reading:

I've got Die For Me upstairs waiting to be cracked open. :) Gonna try it next, me thinks.
I'm about 100 pages into
and about 50 pages off the end of
I'm about 100 pages into

Will do! :) I'm a bit worried that it'll follow in the footsteps of the not so good YA stuff but I have hope.
I'm not sure how I feel about Ill Wind. It's one of those ones where you get dropped in after the story has already started and you get bits of info about previous events once every so often (which I like). It's well written, and it's a new and different idea. I like the characters, I like the style, nd I'm interested in where this will go. But it's 340ish pages and only 4 chapters. As I like to read in chapters, I get an unsatisfied feeling of having to stop when not at the end of a chapter. :(

Yeah I like that to, it makes it feel like you're more a part of the character. That chapter thing is a major downer. I've only ever read two books like that. One was by SMeyer and the worst decision I've seen a publisher make (except for choosing to publish her work in the first place) and the other was mind-blowingly amazing. It only worked because it was a letter. It's my 2nd favourite book of all time.
I sometimes have a looksy, but not very often anymore. I make a beeline for the fantasy section.
Yup :) And you don't have to wait 300 pages for the action to pick up! Yeah I've read a few like that as well. Sometimes it can be pulled off, sometimes it doesn't really work out. A Madness of Angels has a chapter that's about 150 pages long, with not many breaks in it. It overpowered me, I am ashamed to say. Stolen is the letter? I ordered that one. Should be here week after next!

I know, I hate waiting for 300 pages, as everyone discovered when I read that P.C. Cast book lol. If it can be pulled off it makes the author extremely talented. Stolen is yeah, it's absolutely amazing. I recommend that one a lot! Let me know what you think of it.
I suppose it is! I do still like YA stuff about the wars and such, though. Just not paranormal or fantasy.
The books in VA are just as bad. 500 pages are 350 of filler, 100 of action then 50 more of filler prep for next book. I want more action, damnit! I agree. You have to do it without being too wordy, without dropping the action too much, while keeping the reader's attention. Not an easy feat. Yeah, I picked up the rec from you :p Figured I'd give it a go!

I know, I don't get the VA hype if I'm honest. I'm still waiting for book 2 to be in my local library. The only Urban Fantasy YA series I truly love is Strange Angels, I think that Lili St Crow is a good writer and the fact that, like Kelley Armstrong, she started off as an adult author has really helped her out. I know, it's so hard to do but if it's done right, it's amazing. Did you? Go me and mt awesome recs lol! =P

Anne, I'm not sure King could ever be considered bedtime reading material! I'm tempted to try It, as I adore the film version with Tim Curry as Pennywise the clown. I might try Full Dark if I'm ever tempted by horror.
