Cindy, depends a bit on what you enjoy! What sort of thing do you like reading?

Anne, I'm not sure King could ever be considered bedtime reading material! I'm tempted to try It, as I adore the film version with Tim Curry as Pennywise the clown. I might try Full Dark if I'm ever tempted by horror.

I'm (re)reading for the n-th time Angus, Thongs and Full-frontal Snogging Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson Book 1) by Louise Rennison but I'm finding it a bit harder to get back into now that I'm older. :( Still funny, though.

message 352: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Rea that's so sad =( My maturity level is still pretty low so as I'm rereading Angus, Thongs and Full-frontal Snogging Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson Book 1) by Louise Rennison I am fully enjoying it and am laughing like a loon on loon tablets =D

Cindy, what kind of books do you like to read? =D

I know :( I'm still getting sniggers from it, but not as many as I did when I was 13.

message 354: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Awww. =( It's still better than half of what's on the shelves now though. XD

Rennison's a good writer, even if Georgia is immature at times.

I've just noticed that book 1 spans over almost a whole year... but the other 9 take almost another whole year or something? I'm pretty sure she's still only 15 when the series is over. :/

I'm sure Jean Paul II was a wonderful man, Sara, but I rarely read non fiction.

message 356: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) True.

I just noticed the exact same thing. I was like, eh? I'd never noticed that before.

I agree, I'm not a fan of non fiction. Sara, I couldn't help but notice you've been posting that exact message on a few groups, just so you know, we don't appreciate spam.

Alexandra (Lexxilex) | 18 comments I'm reading INFINITE DAYS again at the moment, and gotta say I'm loving it even more!!!

Definitely one to read guys :)

message 358: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Chelsea, that book's called Wild in England. I was confused for a moment then. I've not read the series. What's it like?

Infinite Days? I've heard of that one, I think. Who's it by Alexandra? =)

message 359: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (Lexxilex) | 18 comments It's by Rebecca Maizel and is absolutely fabulous!!

message 360: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) It sounds really good. I added it to my to read list. It's got a really interesting concept. I think I saw it in my local bookshop. =D

message 361: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Awesome. I like the plant/human concept. It even has the obligatory YA love triangle! If I see it in the shop I'll read the back of the book. =D

message 362: by Jeshu (last edited Jun 08, 2011 12:17PM) (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) I'm reading The zombie survival guide. I started this morning, after finishing Coraline :)

I'm also reading Le Morte D'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory, but it's sooo long and the vocabulary is soooo complex (for me, at least) that I read it bit by bit. I hope to finish it this year!

message 363: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Le Morte D'Arthur is really old, though. Is it written in rhyming prose or had they moved on to full sentences by then? I've read a number of pieces of mediaeval literature, they can be quite hard because often things aren't well explained to keep the rhymes going.

Jeshu (jeshusauria) Rea wrote: "Le Morte D'Arthur is really old, though. Is it written in rhyming prose or had they moved on to full sentences by then? I've read a number of pieces of mediaeval literature, they can be quite hard ..."

At least my version is in full sentences(phew!). But still, the language is very complicated and Malory's narration is too repetitive at times :/

message 365: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
If it was written after the 13th century then it should be in prose. Rhyming verses were the "literature" of the 1100s. I always feel quite sorry for Guinevere. In the original Historia Regnum Britanniae there's nothing that says she went off and got it on with Lancelot, which led to Arthur's downfall. But people spotted something where they could read into it, and read into it they did. Poor woman's reputation has been tarnished ever since.

message 366: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) Yes, it was written in that century, while Malory was in prison.
I also feel sorry for Guinevere. People loved to tarnish women's reputation, anyway. They were always the evil ones, the witches, the whores, etc.

It sounds interesting reading, but mediaeval lit is so tiring to get through.
This is very true! Well, men loved to tarnish women's reputation. It empowered them and allowed them to blame all their sins on women.

message 368: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Okay so I'm currently reading 'It's OK, I'm wearing really big knickers!' (Confessions of Georgia Nicolsn) by Louise Rennison and Haunted (Women of the Otherworld, #5) by Kelley Armstrong woo! =D

message 381: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Yay, you finished it! I still haven't picked it back up yet. I'm terrible. =)

I've not read the Shining but Vampire Academy's okay. I'm not the biggest fan of it *remembers I'm a mod* but you should read it because it's this month's group read. XD

message 382: by Amanda (new)

message 383: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Woo! I read Frankenstein last month, I was well proud of myself once I'd finished it.

That's exactly how I felt about it. It had been on my tbr pile for ages though, same with Shiver for next month. XD

Char (CharmaineElaine) Awesome to see what everyone's reading. =) I've been planning on reading Die For Me, I've not heard of the others though.

I am currently reading: Dancing In My Nuddy-Pants (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson Book 4) by Louise Rennison Georgia is just the best. XD

I've got Die For Me upstairs waiting to be cracked open. :) Gonna try it next, me thinks.

I'm about 100 pages into It's OK, I'm Wearing Really Big Knickers (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson Book 2) by Louise Rennison and about 50 pages off the end of Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine

message 389: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Oooh, let me know what Die For Me's like. We have such similar YA taste. Also how's Ill Wind? It's on my tbr pile. =D

message 390: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Will do! :) I'm a bit worried that it'll follow in the footsteps of the not so good YA stuff but I have hope.

I'm not sure how I feel about Ill Wind. It's one of those ones where you get dropped in after the story has already started and you get bits of info about previous events once every so often (which I like). It's well written, and it's a new and different idea. I like the characters, I like the style, nd I'm interested in where this will go. But it's 340ish pages and only 4 chapters. As I like to read in chapters, I get an unsatisfied feeling of having to stop when not at the end of a chapter. :(

message 391: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I know, I still find myself going straight to the YA section though. I never learn! =)

Yeah I like that to, it makes it feel like you're more a part of the character. That chapter thing is a major downer. I've only ever read two books like that. One was by SMeyer and the worst decision I've seen a publisher make (except for choosing to publish her work in the first place) and the other was mind-blowingly amazing. It only worked because it was a letter. It's my 2nd favourite book of all time.

message 392: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I sometimes have a looksy, but not very often anymore. I make a beeline for the fantasy section.

Yup :) And you don't have to wait 300 pages for the action to pick up! Yeah I've read a few like that as well. Sometimes it can be pulled off, sometimes it doesn't really work out. A Madness of Angels has a chapter that's about 150 pages long, with not many breaks in it. It overpowered me, I am ashamed to say. Stolen is the letter? I ordered that one. Should be here week after next!

message 393: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) That's because you've learnt your lesson lol =)

I know, I hate waiting for 300 pages, as everyone discovered when I read that P.C. Cast book lol. If it can be pulled off it makes the author extremely talented. Stolen is yeah, it's absolutely amazing. I recommend that one a lot! Let me know what you think of it.

message 394: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I suppose it is! I do still like YA stuff about the wars and such, though. Just not paranormal or fantasy.

The books in VA are just as bad. 500 pages are 350 of filler, 100 of action then 50 more of filler prep for next book. I want more action, damnit! I agree. You have to do it without being too wordy, without dropping the action too much, while keeping the reader's attention. Not an easy feat. Yeah, I picked up the rec from you :p Figured I'd give it a go!

message 395: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I know if the author isn't trying to blend into PNR are and UF then it's not so bad, I love YA that isn't one of those genres.

I know, I don't get the VA hype if I'm honest. I'm still waiting for book 2 to be in my local library. The only Urban Fantasy YA series I truly love is Strange Angels, I think that Lili St Crow is a good writer and the fact that, like Kelley Armstrong, she started off as an adult author has really helped her out. I know, it's so hard to do but if it's done right, it's amazing. Did you? Go me and mt awesome recs lol! =P

Everly Anders | 4 comments I just published my last short story on kindleThe Seamstresses So I am taking time of to finally get to read again. I am about 100 pages into The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson and I am loving it. I have about 300 pages to go but I will let you know if it stays a five star in my book!
