Erin | 192 comments I read books from this series back in the 80's, but they might be from the late 70's, possibly. It was a series of horror books, written by different authors. It wasn't goosebumps, these were actually kind of creepy almost too freaky for kids stories.

Anyone remember?

Thanks! I can't remember much about the books themselves, I remember there was one about a girl in Egypt and a curse with a mummy, another one that took place in a swamp, etc...

Joanie | 66 comments I read some of these I think. I remember the mummy one, the girl was a reincarnation of a cursed queen or something. There was this one part where she or someone has drawn a picture and it sort of comes to life at night. I read another with the word 'bayou' in the title-a girl goes to take care of her sick aunt who live in a swampy bayou area but she's not really catatonic-again maybe there is a vodoo curse on her or something. I'm going to do some digging and see if I can come up with the series.

Joanie | 66 comments Okay-I found something. The one I was talking about was Evil on the Bayou by Richie Tankersley Cusick and they were part of the Twilight series. (Twilight-where darkness begins) was on the cover of them all) The Egyptian one could have been Amulet of Doom but I couldn't find out enough about it to be sure.

I loved those books-they totally freaked me out!

Joanie | 66 comments So glad I could help and thanks for the trip down memory lane! I had this thing about reading scary books as a kid but then I would totally freak myself out later. These books definitely feed into that cycle!

Luann (azbookgal) | 34 comments Happy to help! I was adding the two books mentioned in this post to the group bookshelf and wanted to make sure I had the correct books. It's confusing since there are different authors - and the Bruce Coville books were later republished as part of his Chamber of Horrors series. So I did a quick Google search and that Wikipedia page popped up. Thought I would pass along the information. :)
