Here we go everyone. From the Prologue to Eddard is the first five chapters of A Game of Thrones. Let's get started. I will post the next thread next Tuesday. And please, feel free to dive into the old discussions.

Glad to help. This discussion thread will be almost as epic as Game of Thrones by the time we're through. What with the old discussion and the new discussion, this will be the biggest discussion we've ever had around here, methinks.

I've read this series twice now. Last time in antipciation of the next book, which as we know, still hasn't been published.

I'll get started on another read through, if anything, so I can try and limit my remarks to A Game of Thrones and not post any spoilers. :)

I'm started on my re-read through as well, if I can fit it into my other books :D
Read it through once before, but the last activity with the series I had was when I read Feast of Crows on its release week.

Are there a lot of idiots like the above that wander around Goodreads?

No, Jeff, I actually haven't bumped into too many people like Tom (who, for anyone arriving late, thought it would be clever to spoil the book for everyone, so his comments have been removed). Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Dawn. Sorry you and Jeff had to deal with it at all. What a shame.

Yeah... I've read them once before so it wasn't such a big deal to me, either... seems like a dumb thing to do, though... and an enormous waste of time!

I'm in the middle of "Bran". The Prologue was interesting, for sure! I'll continue reading slowly but surely!

Okay, so having pushed this reread through, and then not doing it myself was dumb. xD

I took too much on my plate to handle! Great news: spring break starts this weekend! And I have a 6 hour train ride. Which means I'll be all caught up in a few days!

I do love the beginning: already intrigue and mystery and some good old fashioned steel and horses!

Okay, so the oddest chapter in this group was Daenerys! Really, what an odd family where the brothers always marry their sisters... except this generation the brother sells off his just-hit-puberty sister to this really creepy creepy guy. (And before that he molests her :S)

The most fun part of this was the wolf pups. I hope that they don't turn out to rue their choice to keep them!

Moving on to week 2...

Finally started this thing again (fourth time the charm?) and so far I've read the prologue. I long to see that prologue in the mini-series. Martin opens with really cool visuals, and I think it would make for a pretty scary and oppressive opening (much as it does here).

Yeah, it's an intense prologue. I actually didn't hate it. Usually prologues are lame and have nothing to do with the book. This one feels only to have the former, not the latter :P

I finally did it! I finished the first five chapters, and I think I can see myself going on. I really loved that scene in the tombs with Ned and Robert. Nicely done.

What did you think of the tv shows version of the prologue?

I was creeped out by the book, but the HBO didn't creep me out at all. I wasn't made about it, I thought they did a fine job, but it wasn't a great job, and I was hoping for great.

I think if I hadn't read the book, I'd have been confused about the tv show. As things are, I understand more than what the show shows us, and in that case I'm a little disappointed.

I guess Martin has to find a way to tread between his avid fans and newcomers to the story who have no idea what's going on.

Wow. Thanks Dawn. I know I'm like a million years behind all ya'll but I'm reading GoT for the first time. I appreciate any spoiler warnings. :D
