I also learned some other fun stuff to use to make my reviews more aesthetically pleasing :) So thank you for that topic!

I really appreciate how much more organized this group has gotten. I like the different challenges, particularly the variety and flexibility of most of them.
I like that we have a place to share information about free books or great bargains or even just to swap. I am glad we have a References by Preferences. I just wish that it could be developed but I suppose it'll eventually get there as we read more books. lol.
I'm really happy about the Writing Reviews Challenge. It does make me want to spend a little extra effort in writing reviews.
Reading challenges I particularly like are: Serious Readers, Read-With-Me, and the "Classic" Home for the Holidays challenge. I hope we have another "Classics" Reading Challenge soon *hint, hint* :)

So I'd like to say thank you to all of you wonderful members who have posted a comment, challenge, a discussion topic, a reading log, etc. Without all of you we'd just be a bunch of moderators talking to ourselves. Would we still have fun? Heck, yeah, but not as much fun as we do with all of you. So thanks for making what we do that much easier and enjoyable.

Also, thanks to all those that create challenges as you are helping to feed my addiction (in a good way) and these challenges have actually got me back into reading after falling out for awhile.

Yall are the best! Like Kristina, I don't have any friends who like to read. Ok, wait. Let me be honest. I have NONE. Every time my boyfriend comes home from work and sees me reading he says, "NERD ALERT!" It's a joke between us so it is all good. He even funds my addiction sometimes. :)
The lack of "real life" reading friends is why I turned to Goodreads. This was the first group I joined and even though I am a member of others, this is the only one I am active in. I love it!

I've been trying to intrigue her enough so that maybe someday she'll read at least one m/m book in her life. :)

I think my dad's aware of my love for yaois though.
It's a little strange though; and this is sort off topic; when I was growing up my mom sort of liked the fact that I read what she called "real books." which mostly consisted of romance novels.
While my dad didn't mind the fact that I read mangas he just couldn't seem to understand why I liked reading romance novels. There was some contradiction there I think.

That's interesting. I made fun of my mom for a few years because she read "smut" (I was focused on fantasy and manga at the time). Now smut is about all I read. My dad just quietly helps me build new bookshelves when my floor gets too crowded and borrows my history books. ^o^

@Kristina: Aside from my sister, I don't have close "real life" friends who love to read either - or at least, not friends who like to read what I like to read.
@Gabrielle: It's funny that your mother considered romance novels "real books". I've always been lectured by my parents to read "real books", by which they meant the classics such as the ones added to Britannica's Great Books collection. I think my mother, at least, knows that my sister and I read romance, but she doesn't say anything.

I'm just happy when my kids want to read. I don't care if it's manga or comic books or magazines. Any time I see them reading instead of watching TV or on the computer makes me happy!

No kidding. Great job, mods.
I'm also constantly amazed at how little willpower I have to resist joining more challenges - err, no, I'm not. I have no willpower, whatsoever. :D

I agree with you, Kristina. This is an awesome group and a friendly community. I, myself, do not have many friends that read as much as I do. I have been welcomed here with open arms and that means alot to me. I hope and pray that this group never ever dies...I just LOVE it here...It is sooo warm and cozy!! Thank you all!!!

Same. This is the first group I joined where I really felt at home and in a friendly community. I have joined other groups with friendly members but they are larger and I still feel out of place. I'm very happy to be here. :)

Still not very subtle but hey I like a humorous book!

I don't like books that make me cry so I try to avoid them. When I cannot or did not realize I'd be affected like that, tears will prick my eyes. I close the book and do my best to blink back tears - and save the rest for when I'm alone or at home.
Agree with Sans - if you spend the entire book wanting to throttle characters, the author definitely did something very, very wrong. :)

Oh, Lisa, you think so? I think if an author evokes strong emotions, good or bad, and he intends to, then he's doing something right! :-)

Well, I suppose that can be true also. I guess it depends on the throttle issue. Does that make sense?

Thanks for letting us know. We keep trying to improve the group and we love hearing everyone thoughts about what we try. It let's us know if we're getting it right.
