What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I saw this novel in a recent book catalogue, so it's not old. The blurb reads something like this: in the time it takes for [girl] to open her umbrella on the steps of the library, her brother standing next to her is shot and killed. The father retreats to his workshop, the mother moves into [some other part of the house] and the family has to deal with their own secrets as well as with the mysterious death of their son/brother.

I can't find the catalogue or remember enough details to identify the title. Thanks for any help!
